My son had a blast at the Middle School Duals last year. Definitely a highlight of his wrestling career. I highly recommend participation in the Lindsborg qualifying tournament.

No doubt about it. It was awesome to have my son wrestle at this event. He got invited as an alternate after finishing 5th, went to Iowa and got eight matches finishing 7-1 and coming home with a Gold in the alternate bracket and a whole lot of confidence. My only regret, I had to work the weekend that they went to Iowa and didn't get to see him and the rest of Team Kansas wrestle.

Does the weigh in at subs work for the middle school state championships. Or will they have to make weight two days in a row???

From what I remember, they weigh in after they are done at subs (sub location) and get an extra pound. I doubt that has changed. Good luck at the Middle School State Championships. It is a great time and I am glad that Will and company turned it into a qualifying tournament. Don't forget, if you wrestle well and finish just out of the top four, you still might get an invitation as an alternate and come home with a lot of memories that will last with you for the rest of your life.

Personally I don't think kids should get an extra pound at this event. It is an entirely different event. If any thing have everyone weigh in the morning of the event. Plus they will have to make that same weight again a month later without a growth allowance. Yes my son is planning on wrestling in this event at 95. Will he have to watch his weight? You bet. Will, this is your event so you run it as you see fit. Just wanted to express my opinion for whatever it's worth.

Your getting old Lee. Lol. smile

In the past there has been no weight allowance, and I don't believe there is this year either. You have to make scratch weight before the event, and a month later in Iowa. They usually make arrangements with someone at the sub districts to conduct a weigh in and skin check during the afternoon of sub districts. The weigh in has to be within 24 hours of the tourney start time I believe.

When you get to Iowa, it's not the type of tourney you want to show up at your walk around weight, unless you don't mind battling some big ole boys, usually from Iowa, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and anywhere else they like to roll. The top teams cut weight "high school style."

The tourney is a great experience though and one of the highlights of my boys kids wrestling experience. It definitly prepared and taught him a tougheness and team spirit that has helped him at the High School level. Plus I think he traded for some pretty good singlets and made some facebook friends from all over KS!

He always has the good wrestling info..and when I ask he always says its from facebook. lol.

Well, I am confused. The flyer doesn't help a lot to clear up the confusion. I can tell you that from my what I remember, the wrestlers weighed in at Sub-Districts and got an extra pound. Things may have changed. According to the wording on the flyer, they weigh in on the 10th at Sub-Districts, the day before the event, but it doesn't say anything about an extra pound allowance. To add to the confusion, @8:30. My guess is, they can weigh in after they wrestle at Subs or they can weigh in the morning of the event, but it doesn't say anything about a one pound allowance.

Bronson, you are killing me. Maybe I was the one that got the one pound weight allowance, but I probably needed five...or ten. Either way, this is a great event and if your wrestler is up to the extra mat time, it is worth it. Now, back to my nap.

Weigh in is at 8:30am at each Sub-District or they can weigh in at Lindsborg on Sunday morning from 7:00am- 7:30am. Most kids weigh in at the subs. There is no allowance!! The wrestler must make the same weight in Iowa in April. The first year we did weigh in at 3:30 in the afternoon and we felt that kids were holding weight for the whole day, even though they have to do this in HS with a pound allowance. This worked out great last year.

If your son has a chance to do the middle school tournament, YOU MUST DO IT. Its worth the time. From the Lindsborg tournament (other than bad weather driving home) to the final match at Iowa, it was a great experience.

If your son can go as an alternate, do it. Ours was not, but a kid from Hays was, and he ended up getting 8 matches in Iowa. I don't know how the alternate situation works, but my guess is if the kid wants to wrestle, he'll get plenty of opportunities.
