I'm a small school homer, but this will be a big school rout.

I'm with Holliday (as much as it hurts to admit that)

Could have been much more intriguing:

Why no Ky Biddle?

No Blaine Hill?

Hayes vs Mason??

Bontz vs Hobson??

Middleton vs Son????? Should have been the match of the night!!

Ky would of loved to wrestle the senior classic, senior nationals and in Denver. but he had an injury that required surgery last Wednesday that is preventing him from wrestling or doing any spring sports.

Scott,

Thanks for the update. We are sorry to hear of this unfortunate injury. We hope to hear soon of his full recovery.

What criteria was used to pick the Spring Hill kid over others in the state? I saw he didn't even qualify this year...was a non qualifier the only option left?

I have a question how Cash Drylie has a head to head win over Brad Wilson and Brad is selected to wrestle Veach and Cash was not even contacted? Could you please tell me how that is possible? Hays is a 5A school and so is STA they have wrestlers on the big school squad so how is this correct?

Just so you know:

Champions are the only guaranteed spots. We want champs to wrestle champs. If a champ is not available, the next best kid is offered. There will always be a possible difference in oppinion who the next best is.

At the state tournaments, finalists were given a sheet to fill out if they were interested in wrestling in the Senior Classic. If they filled the sheet out and turned it in, we belive we made every possible effort to contact those athletes.

There are alot of variables that go into the selection process. There is alot of information that does not need to be public information-ie, injuries, refusal to wrestle, refusal to wrestle a particular weight or opponent- whatever. These young men have committed to wrestle in this event for the entertainment of the Kansas wrestling community. Please dont diminish the merrit of their selection because "you" would like to see something different. You may not know the entire situation as above in the thread with another athlete.

As a teacher, coach and parent, I would never discuss your son with another parent, and I wont condone that behavior on a talk forum either. If you feel the need to question the selection process, please call me personally instead of possibly slandering a young man on a public forum.

I hope the fans enjoy the best matches that the selection committe for the KWCA could put together for the start of a great kids state tournament. Good luck to all.

I agree with Butch that Cash should have been next in line to wrestle if there was going to be two 220 matches. I don't think anyone is saying Bean and Veach need to be 2nd guessed, as they were both champions, and are both studs. But I do believe head to head criteria should play some role in who is asked to participate in these show cases. And my thinking is that if Cash defeated an opponent head to head he should have criteria over this oponenant and should have the opportunity to represent the large schools. But again this is just my opinion for what ever it is worth.

James this is what you yourself typed on this forum. If a champ is not available, the next best kid is offered. There will always be a possible difference in oppinion who the next best is.

I am just stating that the next best kid should be Cash. There should not even be an opinion involved here because of the head to head win. I do not see how you think i slandered a kid on the talk forum when all i stated was a head to head win? That is a criteria used in wrestling all over the country. I used that term to show that Cash should be the next best kid. Please answer my question and call me at 785-650-4404 if you can not answer this on the talk forum.

Thanks

Hello,
My name is Patrick Naughton, head coach Lawrence High. I am wondering where we wrestled your son this year? Brad's losses this year are to Butler leavenworth, Bonner baldwin, Keller WNW, and at 285 Boehm LSW. Maybe, I missed a tournament or dual? Please if my records are wrong correct me.

Thank you,

I am not sure if they wrestled or not, I was just saying that if there was a head to head this year that should be criteria. But also looking back at the All Class Rankings, I see that Cash is the next senior on the list ranked 3rd all Class, and the 2nd senior ranked behind Bean, and then Tyler Keller is the next large school wrestler ranked in the All Class. I am not 100% sure on how it is decided on who goes to this show case, but I would think this ALL Class Rankings would have some say in who is next on the list. Dont get me wrong I am not saying Brad Wilson doesnt desserve to be recognized, but I also believe Cash had one of the best years at 220 All Class, with only 3 losses one to 321a runner up who he later defeated, and 2 to Bean (which everyone lost to) JMO.

And yes to answer your qestion they did meet in the kids series last year in the semis at state, and Cash won 11-2 on his way to the state title. But as I said earlier not sure if they have ever met any other times.

Patrick you are right that is where the head to head took place kids state. I recieved a call from one of the selection crew for this event and he said he had never heard of Cash or myself untill yesterday when i posted on this forum. I am very shocked that a selection crew would make any decisions without looking at the season rankings. Cash has been ranked #3 in all class and #2 in class 5A for most of the year. I just went back and checked to make sure and Cash is still ranked #3 all class and the rankings were posted before they had there selection meeeting. There is even one of the people that does the rankings on this selection crew, so i can not understand why they have not heard of us. There is still plenty of time to correct this mistake and have the best wrestler in the match. I hope they step up and do what is right and follow there selection critiria. Facts do not lie. I was also told that if it is not in high school it does not matter. I hope for college sake and even olympic sake that there matches do mean somthing to the wrestling world, because Cash has put in alot of extra summer time work hoping to go to the next level. But remember this selection crew said only HIGH SCHOOL means anything to them.

Thanks

By looking at this line up it is more of a Eastern Kansas senior duel, as from what I can see there is only about 5 out of the 28 wrestlers in this show case from west of I35. Is there a reason for this?

This number may change, and it may even out more, as I am not sure of the locations of the schools in the Wichita area that are on the west side of I35.
