USAWKS CADET AND JUNIOR DUALS – TEAM QUALIFYING CRITERIA

We have two goals: 1. Increase participation at the FS/GR State Tournaments. 2. Establish an objective method to assemble our national dual teams.

Any KS wrestler who wishes to compete for TEAM KANSAS for the Cadet, or Junior Dual team but cannot compete in the state tournament to qualify they must petition the “challenge board” (five members: both FS/GR Directors, Schoolboy Coach, Cadet Coach, and Junior Coach) by the Friday before the FS/GR State tournament. We will create a form that must be completed and emailed to Either FS/GR Directors before midnight on that Friday. Llist of approved reasons: Injury, death in family, competing in another USA event that is in direct conflict, attending your school’s prom that day or the night before, graduation (for the competitor, parent or sibling.) **** INJURY OR ILLNESS MUST BE SUBSTANTIATED WITH A SIGNED EXPLANATION FROM THE DIAGNOSING PHYSICIAN****

After the state tournament a competitor that participated in the state tournament has 48 hours to petition to challenge for these reasons: challenge at a different weight, was in the top 3 and would like a second chance, changing age groups, or was injured at the state tournament. The “challenge board” will approve and notify the competitors.

Up to five alternates for each style will be selected. Alternates will be chosen from the pool of wrestlers that attended the state tournament or properly petitioned to challenge. ALL state champs will be chosen as alternates in the event they lose their spot in a challenge.

Because we feel there will be very few challenges we will take the full deposit from both the starter and all challengers. ALL challenges can take place at the dual camps. The loser of the challenge may be selected as an alternate. If they are not then they can elect to have their funds back or finish the camp and receive a 50% discount but not attend the duals. If the starter loses his spot then they have the same options afforded to them with the exception that they WILL be offered an alternate spot. If there are more than 2 wrestlers then a mini tournament will be conducted to choose the challenger who will dual the starter. ALL COMPETITOR DEPOSITS ARE DUE BY THE SATURDAY FOLLOWING THE STATE TOURNAMENT!! If a deposit is not received that will be an indication that the Directors must move down the placers to select a replacement.

If a champion doesn’t wish to attend we will move down the FS/GR State Placers until we fill the spot. Each coaching staff has the responsibility to select up to five alternates for each style (depending on the budget and transportation restrictions) at their own discretion. However, the starter will be guaranteed 60% or more of the matches.

SUMMARY:
• Friday, May 2, 2014 (by Midnight) – Athletes interested in participating in Cadet or Junior Duals, but cannot make it to the State tournament must have the official petition form filed with the Challenge Board.
• Sunday, May 4, 2014 – State Freestyle and Greco tournaments
• Tuesday, May 6, 2014 – State tournament participants deadline to file to challenge at a different weight class, different age group, second chance, or injury.
• Challenges are 2 out of 3 and will take place at the Duals camps (mini tournament to determine challenger in the event there are 2 or more challengers)
*** In the event the selection process as described above yields NO competitors willing to fill a spot on the team, the deal team staff will then have the opportunity to select ANY eligible wrestler to fill the “spot” on the team.

USAWKS CADET AND JUNIOR DUALS – TEAM QUALIFYING CRITERIA

We have two goals: 1. Increase participation at the FS/GR State Tournaments. 2. Establish an objective method to assemble our national dual teams.

The state champion of each weight class in the Cadet and Junior divisions will be the STARTER for TEAM KANSAS in the USA Cadet and Junior Dual tournaments. They will be guaranteed, barring injury, to be named the starter in 60% of the duals. Below is an explanation of possible exceptions.

State tournament participation is the primary criteria for the determination of the line ups for the Cadet and Junior Dual teams.
