Registration and Weigh-ins for Grades 1-8:
Friday, April 3, 2014 - 7:00-9:00 pm
(Clinic TBA 8:00-9:00 pm)
Note: Registration and weigh-ins are separated by grade. The Brute Nationals is an event where first through twelfth graders can compete against their own grade level, in their weight class, to stake their claim as the best in the country in folkstyle wrestling.

One Wrestler from each Division in each weight class in each grade will be crowned National Champion
The top 8 place finishers from each division in each weight class will receive awards and Brute All-American Certificates.
Top 2 wrestlers in each weight class will receive a FREE custom designed Brute singlet to wear for the finals. Each finalist coach will receive a FREE coaching shirt to wear for the finals. An "Outstanding Wrestler" award will be presented to each grade (1st - 12th Grade)
The format will be a traditional bracket system tournament. Each wrestler is guaranteed a minimum of two matches. There will be NO seeding - Blind draw - Weight classes with 5 or less wrestlers will be Round Robin Format.
Challenge Matches for wrestlers who lose their first 2 matches, to insure extra matches.

It is the responsibility of the coach/parent/wrestler to check with your state rules committee regarding eligibility rules when participating in a National High School folkstyle tournament. Brute does NOT claim this to be a National High School Championship event or require wrestler's to compete in a pre-qualifying event

Profits from this event are donated back to wrestling and have provided over $200,000 in assistance to wrestling programs through the REACHES Fund.

Conflicts with USA Folkstyle Nationals...

It does conflict with USA Folkstyle or is on the same weekend. But if the parents don't have the cash to travel and want their kids to wrestle it is an additional option within 3 hours of Salina, Wichita, Lincoln, NE, Des Moines, IA, 5 hours from some spots in Oklahoma, I have seen some Indiana schools bring teams, SD, CO, and others. It is just an option or another local/regional opportunity. It is about 30 minutes from any location in Kansas City.

I believe they are wrestling straight through this year. I think Kendric Maple, Tyler Caldwell, Nathan Butler, - just to name a couple of Kansas wrestlers who went on and wrestled NCAA D-I wrestling after competing in this tournament. There have been numerous HS state champions and state placers from several states that have gone on to all levels of college and wrestled. It also allows the kids that are Junior Varsity on their high school teams to wrestle someone in their own grade/class. If someone is so good in this area and has no competition then they should travel to wherever and seek out some other challenges. I personally have been going to this tournament and coaching kids since its started in Nebraska - and it is my opinion that it is far from being a joke and a great opportunity for wrestlers. I am reading a quote off of my coffee cup this morning, "Life Isn't About Waiting For The Storm To Pass It's About Learning How To Dance In The Rain".

Folks,

Well run event highly encourage any wrestlers but with Folkstyle Natls going on 1st-8th grade to give it a go. Quite a few of the finals matches (were all Kansas finals).

Kyle Dake will be on hand this year. That alone along with Coach John Smith makes the entry fee worth it. Quite a few NAIA schools in attendance last season as well scouting high school division.
