Unstoppable at Cloud County Community College: 2017 Thunderbird Wrestling Camp

Thunderbird Technique/Competition Camp (June 17th-20th)

Focus:

Summer practice makes winter champions…..learn how you must to train in order to reach your maximum potential. Campers will be guided through championship technique, drilling, and live wrestling scenarios from camp clinicians who have attained success at all levels of wrestling. Athletes will learn technique from past, and current State Champions, NAIA and NCAA All-Americans, NAIA National Champions, and NCAA National Champions that helped them reach their pinnacle.

Athletes participating in the Thunderbird Technique and Competition Camp will polish their skills, as well as learn new highly effective technique that will give them the confidence, and knowledge to attain their future goals. This camp will focus on technique appropriate for wrestlers of all skill sets, and experience levels that will translate to immediate success on every level of competition. Camp consists of over 20 hours of technique broken up over the course of 8 sessions, and 4 days. These sessions will consist of technique, drilling, and live wrestling. Camp culminates with a competition takedown tournament, with the champions at each weight class taking home a Championship Title, and an individual trophy.

At our Thunderbird Wrestling Camp you will not only learn wrestling, but you will also be afforded the opportunity to learn valuable lessons that will lead to success not only in the athletic arena, but in all walks of life. You will have hands on interaction with camp clinicians, counselors, and coaches over the course of the entire four days of camp. This includes Q&A, and training tips (nutrition, mental preparation, note taking, etc.) with the various clinicians, and camp staff at the conclusion of every session.


Unstoppable at Cloud County Community College: 2017 Thunderbird Wrestling Camp

-Offered to 6th-12th graders of all skill sets, and experience levels
-$200 to attend as a resident camper
-$120 to attend as a commuter camper
-$100 to attend as a resident coach
*Teams or clubs who bring 10+ kids receive a $30 discount per extra participant ($170 total)

We will have a cap at 300 campers to ensure the best experience for each camper, and allow for more focused instruction

*Highlights:
-4 Days of Camp
-8 Technique Sessions
-Over 20 Hours of Hands on, In-Depth, High Level Technique Instruction
-Training Tips (nutrition, note taking, preparation), and Q&A with clinicians, college wrestlers, and camp staff
-Takedown Tournament on final day of camp
-Awards for individual Takedown Tournament Champions
-Free Camp Shirt with enrollment, given at registration
-Gear give-aways through-out camp
-Camp Apparel Store

*Resident stay includes:
-Dormitories and campers are monitored during their entire stay by school Security Personnel, School RA’s, Camp Counselors, and Camp Directors
-Stay in newly built or re-modeled dorms with student lounge, television, etc.
-Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Thunderbird Cafe
-Use of student recreation center with tennis courts, basketball hoops, gym, and indoor track
-Use of student center with ping pong, billiards, , air hockey, and cafeteria
-Outdoor recreation time (football, ultimate frisbee, disc golf, soccer, etc.) with coaches, clinicians, camp counselors
-Coin-operated laundry service on site

*Technical Focal Points:

Championship Pins, Tilts and Turns:
-Learn technique from NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, and NAIA National Champion and All-American clinicians who were dominant in all areas, and aspects on top. Clinicians will share the techniques that help them dominate from the top position, and will emphasize the importance of not only riding, but riding to turn and earn the fall.

High Level Hand Fighting to Leg Attacks and Finishes
:
-Learn Technique from NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, and NAIA National Champion and All-American clinicians who were dominant with various set ups, leg attacks and finishes in the neutral position. Clinicians will focus on teaching techniques that will help you move your opponent in to positions that optimize opportunities to score takedowns, and then focus on technique to secure the takedown from those positions.

Scrambling to Score Takedowns, Nearfall Points, and Pins:
-Learn the key technical aspects of the art of the scramble from NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, and NAIA National Champion and All-American clinicians who utilized unique situations to score points in various positions at the highest levels. Scrambling is not just “funk.” Clinicians will focus on breaking down key components to avoiding stalemates, and focus on the technical aspect of scrambling that will lead to winning positions and earning takedowns, nearfalls, and pins.

High School Takedown Tournament:
-10 lb weight increments: 90-100, 100-110, 110-120, 120-130, 130-140, 140-150, 150-160, 160-170, 170-180, 180-190, 190-200,200-210, 210-220, 220-Hvy
*One 5 minute period.
*Most takedowns wins the bout
*Stalling rules apply. Stalling point = 1 Takedown
*10 Takedown lead is a Technical Fall
*Awards for champions of each weight


*Middle School will wrestle live matches (3, 1 minute periods) on one mat.


We will also host a youth wrestling camp over the same days. Information for that will be posted on the youth wrestling forum.


We will add 3+ additional clinicians, and will keep everyone updated as they are solidified.

We are excited to announce a couple of additions to our summer camp line-up.

Coach Corey Ruff, who was named the 2017 NAIA/NWCA Coach of the Year, will be added to the docket

The Thunderbird Wrestling Camp has added another great clinician to the camp line up:

Coach Tate Lowe, Head Coach at Valley Center High School. Coach Lowe was recently named the 2017 KWCA 5A Head Coach of the Year, was a High School All-American, and was a multiple time High School State Champion and Place Winner. Coach Lowe has also served as a USAW Kansas National Team Coach. CCCC is excited to add Coach Lowe to the docket!
