“Roadmap” to Junior Duals!
The 2018 USAW Junior National Duals will be held in Tulsa, OK at the Cox Business Center on June 19-23. The tournament is the grand stage for our national high school team events! Once again, state pride is a stake, as we compete against the nation. Clear your schedules for June 17-23 and make plans now to qualify and prepare yourself for this elite event.
JUNIOR DIVISION Born 9/1/98 and after, plus currently enrolled in grades 9-12 WEIGHT CLASSES 100, 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 145, 152, 160, 170, 182, 195, 220, 285 ROADMAP Kansas will send two teams to compete against the rest of the U.S. How do you become a member of these teams? Please read below:
FS/GR STATE Team Kansas will fill the dual spots primarily by using the FS/GR State tournament, May 6th, 2018. The top three placers at this event will be considered for the Junior Dual teams in their respective weight class and style. If a placer elects not to compete, then the USAWKS Coaching staff will work to fill these spots. Athletes can choose to change weight classes but in the event all spots are occupied they will have to win a best of three challenge match series. The coaching staff will move to the 4th place finisher first and then look to ANY and ALL wrestlers from Kansas to fill the possible 48 spots!
• Sunday, May 6, 2018 – State Freestyle and Greco tournament in Hutchinson, KS.
JUNIOR DUAL PRE-CAMP June 17-18 at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, KS. Team Kansas will attend this camp to focus on technique and rules, while conducting our challenge matches to determine roster spots. Wrestlers will be transported by bus to Tulsa at the conclusion of the camp.
CHALLENGE PROCESS • Friday, May 4, 2018 (by Midnight) – Athletes interested in participating in the Junior Duals, but cannot make it to the State tournament, must have the official petition form filed with the Challenge Board. • Tuesday, May 8, 2018 – State tournament participants deadline to file to challenge at a different weight class, different age group or due to injury. • Challenges are 2 out of 3 and will take place at the Duals camp (mini tournament to determine challenger in the event there are 2 or more challengers) *** In the event the selection process as described above yields NO competitors willing to fill a spot on the team, the dual team staff will then have the opportunity to select ANY eligible wrestler to fill the “spot” on the team. Wrestlers must have a current USA Wrestling Membership Card. All registration is handled through the state. Registration is not available to individuals.

I received many forms, deposits and confirmations from wrestlers wanting to join our national Junior team yesterday.
If you won your Junior weight at state and have not submitted your intent to wrestle at Junior Duals, DO SO NOW....
Thanks!

Our Juniors have completed two days of camp at Neosho. Four practices of technique from Daniel DeShazer, Ken Kepley, Matt Baker and Conor Fitzgerald have our team focused on the battle before them. One more short practice in the morning and we are off to Tulsa for our 5pm weigh-in tomorrow night.
A huge thank you to Coach Nick Nothern and the awesome hospitality from Neosho County Community College. You guys made us feel right at home!
Tomorrow is Junior Duals Eve!

Team Kansas made it safe to Tulsa, made weight, ate and drank their way back to life and are set for our team meeting at 9pm.
Team 1 has the only bye in the tournament of 31 teams. We wrestle the winner of Oklahoma 1 and Florida.
Team 2 has Utah first thing tomorrow at 9am.
The calm before the storm.... I can see this team is EXCITED about competing against the nation's best!
