Four U.S. freestylers weigh in and get draws at University Worlds in Hungary

PECS, Hungary – The first four U.S. freestyle wrestlers have weighed in and received their draws for the first day of action at the University World Championships in Tuesday.

Competing at 57 kg/125.5 lbs. will be Matt McDonough (Iowa City, Iowa/Titan Mercury WC/Hawkeye WC), a two-time NCAA champion and three-time finalist for Iowa. McDonough is a past U.S. Junior World Team member.

McDonough opens against Ziya Daylak of Turkey, who was ninth in the 2013 World University Games and was a 2006 European Cadet bronze medalist.

Rutgers star Anthony Ashnault (South Plainsboro, N.J./Scarlet Knight WC) is the U.S. entry at 65 kg/143 lbs. He is competing in his first major international event for the USA.

Ashnault drew Mihail Sava of Moldova, who was fifth in the 2013 European Senior Championships and competed on the 2013 Moldovan Senior World Team. His best international finish was a silver at the 2013 Ion Corneanu Memorial in Romania.

Competing at 74 kg/163 lbs. is four-time NCAA All-American Tyler Caldwell (Stillwater, Okla./Sunkist Kids), who competed for both Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.

Caldwell opens with Robert Olle of Slovakia, who was seventh at the 2008 and 2009 Junior World Championships. Olle competed on the 2011 Slovakian Senior World Team, and was fifth at the Grand Prix of Spain last weekend.

Dustin Kilgore (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids), a 2011 NCAA champion and three-time All-American for Kent State, will wrestle at 97 kg/213 lbs.

Kilgore had a bye, and will compete in the second round against the winner of bout between Namkhai Batdorj of Mongolia and Mihaly Szabo of Hungary. Batdorj was fifth in the 2012 Asian Junior Championships. Szabo was a 2012 Senior Beach World champion.

The U.S. freestyle team is coached by Dave Bennett of Boise, Idaho, Mike Hagerty of Blue Springs, Mo. and Bryan Snyder of Lincoln, Neb.
