Grading the seeds... Some bizarre statements were made in yesterday's Bobcat seeding meeting that resulted in some nonstandard bracket placements. Seeding has been beaten like a old throw rug on this forum. The number one INTENT of seeding is to separate the top 4 wrestlers in an order of expected placement based on information/data that would assist. In MANY cases supporting data is NOT needed especially if you have HEAD to HEAD and COMMON opponent information. HEAD to HEAD ALWAYS being the NUMBER ONE criteria (unless there were extenuating circumstances such as an inj def, yes it is still a win but all coaches should know that it doesn't mean the best wrestler got the W). Records are supporting data but EVERYONE knows it doesn't matter what your record is if you haven't wrestled any tough competition! This far into the season, the only data from last year that is pertinent is the state tournament finish (and if you are reaching for help a head to head match up). Does summer wrestling matter?? For God's sake if you have a Fargo FREESTYLE ALL AMERICAN in Cadets of Juniors (better take a special look at those brackets below 106 in Cadets and below 120 in Juniors) it better be recognized. I did say FREESTYLE!! Greco finishes can distinguish a wrestler but the style differences are different. No official is Folkstyle is going to be yelling "Head up" to help a wrestler set up his head lock. smile The practice of using your own tournament's information is low on the list of important criteria. I don't care what tournament in KS you are, the STATE tournament is EVERY wrestler's goal so all other finishes are not as relevant. Other important things to note... in today's world many of our wrestlers approach this with an 11 month plan. I know KS wrestlers that log over 120 matches from March 1 to the November practice start date. Is this relevant?? I say HECK YES! That is three high school seasons of matches against wrestlers who also have an 11 month plan. If you are Joe Blow sitting on the couch, playing soccer, playing baseball, or just lifting weights you just let a FR become a SR in experience, while you didn't advance your skills one bit!

Why is this important? When you don't properly separate the four best it won't make one bit of difference who becomes the champion. What it will impact is team score and the destiny of the lower seeds.

I SAY GET IT RIGHT!! or just randomly draw in everyone so there is no ego or bias involved at all!
