Just Wow...

Kansas 1 went 3-1 yesterday, with a drama filled dual against Tennessee. After receiving the only bye in the tournament, the host team Oklahoma handed us a 40-23 loss, getting wins from Beeson, Ward, Hendrickson and Willis. We followed that up with a 49-21 victory over Alaska, a 41-23 win over Florida and a nail biter win over the Vol state.

Jalin Harper started us out with a win by fall over his Tennessee opponent. We then lost nine of the next twelve matches, finding ourselves down 32-26 with Conner Ward and Bubba Wilson left to wrestle. Ward was his usual machine-like self, winning 12-7 to close the team score to 33-29 Vols. Wilson was charged with the need for a fall to salvage the dual, or so we thought! Bubba dominated the match and had a shot at a fall, finishing with a 12-1 victory. That made the score 34-33 Tennessee. As our coaching staff talked to our team about lessons learned, we noticed the referees gathering at the head table and a muting of our opponents celebration. Earlier in the dual, a Tennessee wrestler had dropped his straps on the mat and received an unsportsmanlike penalty, resulting in a one point deduction that had not already been deducted. That changed the score to a 33-33 tie with the first tie-breaker criteria being penalties! That added one point to the good guys and we had ourselves a 34-33 victory to open placement pool play!

Whew...

Kansas 1 continues Greco today with duals against Wisconsin and Missouri, before our final placement dual.

Kansas 2 went 1-4 with a close loss to Utah and a victory over Georgia. Grant Treaster led the way with a 5-0 day followed by Jake Barnes, Junior Camacho and Luis Rodriguez at 4-1. Terrance Adeleye from Junction City has become the human highlight reel, posting three 5 point throws and is looking tougher with each match. Brandon Madden had the revenge match of the day. After losing to his Utah foe 15-4 in the first dual, he returned the favor with a spectacular 18-17 win in their second meeting!

Day 2 of Greco awaits!!!

KANSAS PROUD!
