The following represent some of the high achievements
by Kansas wrestlers during the 1998/99 season.

Eric Akin earned the #1 spot in the nation with a championship victory over Lou Rosselli in the Freestyle Team Trials at 119 lbs.  Eric represented Kansas at the Pan American Games, winning a bronze medal.

Colby Community College, led by head coach Steve Lampe, won the 1999 NJCAA National Wrestling Championships.  With Neosho County Community College, in only its first year of existence, placing seventh and Labette Community College right behind them in eight place, Kansas wrestling was quite dominant at the NJCAA Championships.

National High School Championships
All competitors must be graduating seniors and a finalist in their state.  The Kansas team achieved the highest point total ever which placed them 6th. These young men acquitted themselves well as gentlemen and scholar-athletes.  Their demeanor and actions, both on and off the mat, are noticed by college coaches and other state leaders
