Kansas State Wrestling Club - CHALLENGE!!! - 03/08/07 03:24 AM

Club Directors and Tournament Directors,

This is a challenge to all other clubs who have had a tournament this year, (or in the past), and made a little extra money!

Challenge is simple....

Mill Valley Wrestling Club is donating $100.00 to Kansas State Wrestling Club!

Is your club up for this challenge?

Lets see what type of response we get out of this!!

Oh Ned, Ned, Ned,

I like how you are trying to show me up a little here!!!

I did look back and see that Atchison did have not only 1 tourney, but followed it up with a second tourney this year.

By all accounts I would think maybe you would need to match something closer to a $200.00 figure to keep all things (proportionally) even! :-)

All joking aside, I believe we as Club Directors are the first step in promoting and assisting that next level of wrestling.

Hope all others will follow the lead.

I just sent $50 this morning to join as a personal KSU Wrestling Club booster. I will throw that out as a challenge for personal memberships.

I think this is a great idea Jeff to promote kids clubs to join. I applaud and encourage that effort. Let's all become personal members too. It is only $10 a year and every extra $10 a year will be a big help to the KSU Wrestling Club.

Jeff,

I wish I could afford $200 to the GREAT school of KSU.
But I sent more kids to the Mill Valley tourney than came to Atchison!!! SO I am out of money.

Have a great day my friend.

Where is the post for the KU Wrestling Club? If there was a Crimson and Blue group I would gladly give them $500.

Cokeley,

That does it!!!

You are using the Mill Valley Wrestling Club mats and I (as well as members of our kids club) would feel a lot better if you would send that $250.00 mat rental to Kansas State Wrestling!!

I wont bring up the rental costs from previous years, unless you continue your ku talk.

I intend to join. I think its great they are making an effort to continue in a sport they clearly love. Is there anyway the entry forms can be handed out with our packets at State? This would be a great way to get this information out.

Manhattan Free Style Club put $200.00 in the pot! And I will do it again if everyone shows up May 12th for our tourney!

To resurect this topic,

The Manhattan Optomists pledged $500 and Randy Lewis was recognized at the State Tournament for their generosity. We're going to add a team membership to the Booster Club. Any ideas on what requirements we should set as costs? I thought about making it by club size, but am not sure how we would break it down.

Keep in mind that an individual or family can join for $10. Maybe we just have one price to join and then different levels?

Thoughts... Opinions?

A lot of times clubs or organizations will offer different levels of memberships, like bronze($10?), silver($50?), & gold($100?). You could also offer corporate level memberships ($200?) for those companies that wish to contribute (like Manhattan Optimists).
Besides hopefully seeing D1 wrestling in the future, what else is in it for those who donate? I'm thinking along the lines of free tickets, hosting camps, or maybe put them on the mailing list for a monthly newsletter (you could list new sponsors & upcoming events in this). Sometimes undertakings like this animal work better if committees are formed & assigned to specific duties such as the newsletter. Just a few thoughts that will hopefully help keep this great idea flying!

Re: Kansas State Wrestling Club - CHALLENGE!!! - 03/29/07 11:20 AM

I'm still looking for those who ran successful tournaments to step up!!! :-)

I want to see those clubs that hosted say they are in:

Ark City
Junction City
Paola
Baldwin
Concordia
Rossville
Johnson County ( STA & Olathe East - Come on Joe and Rick you cant take it with you!!)
Wamego
Salina ( Come on Bob - Send the money!! )
Valley Center
Maize
Topeka T-Birds
Maize
Hutch ( I heard this was a good one - We may come down next year )
Parsons
Derby
Hays
Burlington
Wichita Classic ( dont know what clubs put this on )

There is strength in numbers! When I started this thread I didnt set the amount so high that it would hurt some small clubs. I didnt want this to be about "we gave more than you" but instead about "we support getting serious about a D1 program in the STATE of KANSAS!!

I am monitoring the thread to see who does follow through on this challenge!!!

I think we need to do somesort of deal next year that in every dual that Kstate wrestles, have a "Powercat Pinners Club" with every fall that occurs in a dual benefiting Kansas State, you pledge so much money...so if they have 5 duals and record 6 pins in those five duals and you pledged 10bucks a pin...you just officially became a $60 contributor!

Also need to pass this along as I received this the other day:

My name is Jeff McCall and I've been elected Chairman of the SW Conference of the NCWA. I think it's very important to college wrestlng in Kansas that all 3 DI schools have club teams if there is any hope of any of them going varsity any time soon. I've tried to contact Klint Deere by e-mail and PM but no luck. I been in contact with a student at KU who says he's the President of the club but he needs help. His name is Mike Cox mikecw23@yahoo.com
I spoke to the student advisor for the Wichita State team and he gave the contact info for the President. Today I sent the President an e-mail and I'm waiting for a reply. The advisor is confident that they would be competing next year. The President's name is Kyle Cline kbcline@wichita.edu
