Re: Battle of the Belt 2015! Kansas Star Casino - 02/03/15 12:55 AM

Are you allowing any weight allowance? Can they do both open & novice?
Posted By: Derek Patterson

Re: Battle of the Belt 2015! Kansas Star Casino - 02/03/15 02:30 PM

There will be no weight allowance.

Wrestler may enter only one weight class and only one age group.

Wrestlers are permitted to bring sealed water bottles, sealed sports drinks, and protein/shakes into tournament.

Wrestlers are permitted to bring fresh fruit, jerky, cheese sticks, power/granola bars, yogurt, lunch meats, and tortillas into tournament.

"Wrestlers are permitted to bring sealed water bottles, sealed sports drinks, and protein/shakes, Fresh fruit, Jerky, Cheese Sticks, Power/Granola bars, Yogurt, Lunch Meats, and Tortillas into tournament."

With this being posted are we allowed to bring said items in a small cooler into the tournament or will there be a designated area that they are stored? Thanks!

When are you guys going to release brackets? I know the deadline says 4am on track but I would like to make out my brackets earlier as a coach to make it a lot less crazy in the morning that's why I am asking

They can bring them in a small cooler, a wrestler will have to carry it in not a parent.

We will release brackets as soon as we can. The seeds have been saved, but we are waiting to build brackets until after everyone has weighed in and we confirm their correct age/weight/division placement. Unfortunately, I would not expect it to be before midnight.

The Maize Wrestling Club would like to thank everyone who attended our tournament yesterday. It was a great atmosphere with some stellar wrestling!

We would greatly appreciate any feedback, both positive and negative, so that we can build on the tournament in years to come.

Good luck to everyone on the remainder of their seasons.

Thank You,

Re: Battle of the Belt 2015! Kansas Star Casino - 02/08/15 09:22 PM

Thank you for the great Tournament lots of tough competition. Only a few things I think could make this tournament a little better is #1 Wrestle for a true champion. This use to be done at all tournaments when many of us coaches were wrestling but for some reason we have changed this because parents seem to thank that it makes it to long of a tournament. The only ones that are really saying this is the parents who's kid had second then lost it to the 3rd placer. Top tournaments like Battle of the Belt need to bring this back. If not then there needs to be a seeding meeting before the tournament.
#2 Move the table where the kids picked up their Belts and medals. With it butted up to the mat and the older kids wrestling while they were still passing out the awards was asking for trouble. Glad no little kid was hurt or a move stopped because there were kids in the wrestling area. Also since this is a such a great tournament and bringing in kids from not only around the state but from other states there needs to be a stand where the kids can have their pictures taken with all the placers.
#3 And the least important and also maybe the hardest to change. Even though it was able to get food inside for the kids. We should be able to take the kids to the great Buffet at the Casino after the tournament. If they have to go through a back door because they are not allowed on the main floor that would be ok. But there should be a way to get them to eat there. Even in Vegas kids can walk through and around the gaming machines.

Back to back weekends great tourneys, Salina and Maize. I really enjoyed the fact ages were split, made for a much shorter day. No complaints here, competition was great and facility is top notch.

Re: Battle of the Belt 2015! Kansas Star Casino - 02/09/15 01:18 AM

The only complaint I have about this tournament was the novice division. Some of the kids from out state should not have been in the novice division because they have been wrestling for longer than 2 years or they placed in the state tournament. The true novice kids got cheated because these other kids wanted to cheat. It was an awesome tournament other than that.

Re: Battle of the Belt 2015! Kansas Star Casino - 02/09/15 02:48 AM

This is the 1st time attending The Battle of the Belt, and I have to say it was a good experience. Venue was top notch with plenty of room to move around and coach. The event security were very polite and helpful if needed. The coaches chairs were a great touch you don't see that much at kids tournaments. The competition was great, officials appeared to be good from what I seen. On things that could possibly improve this tournament, I feel at a tournament of this caliber coaches should be required to show a USA coaches card before they can obtain a coaches band. I think you still could charge the $15 for extra bands, but just make sure they are coaches with background checks completed. And the other thing is too many advanced wrestlers in the novice division. I know this is next to impossible to enforce, because there are always going to be those families/clubs that are trophy hunting rather than competition hunting. But overall great tournament and we will be back.
