Agenda and voting issues for state body meeting - 10/05/16 11:45 PM

Just curious - I was wondering if someone could post the agenda and voting issues for the state body meeting. I was trying to find a link to the agenda.

Thanks!

That is way past my technical skills.

Not on the agenda but very likely to be proposed are new district lines. Will require 2/3 of the state body to approve.

I'm not sure of what you are saying. Are you saying there will be another proposal introduced other than what the board has already done?

That is a possibility. If it's done there will be a couple options that account for growth in some areas and possible decline in others. Would require 2/3 to even send it to a vote.

I see a lot of discussion on social media about going away from singlets as the uniform for wrestling. I think there is a couple of states that are going that direction in high school. Is this something to be discussed in the high school level or could it be discused and passed at the youth level?

Q6: Do you support balanced districts which should have nearly equal number of participants?

Yes 71.0% 262
No 12.7% 47
No Preference 16.3% 60

Looks like a significant majority want balanced districts and the change in district lines did NOTHING to address the issue. VERY little net change to get D3 numbers in line with other districts. Going to have to pull Reno/Kingman/Harper back into D4 and slide McPherson into D2, bring Cloud and Ottawa back into D3. Variance from smallest to largest district=15. What the board has done was reduced greatest head count variance from existing of 61 to now 60. D3 is the big one when you PROPERLY consider sub head counts and then add in the high school kids at respective D3 and D4 districts. D3 is 780 before and 779 after their redrawn lines by the board. The other districts before the change ranged from 719 to 745.

For those that left early or were not at the state body meeting we did make a proposal to set aside the new district lines, while we had a simple majority in favor we didn't have the 2/3 required to make a change.

It was brought up many times Sunday that if we want to have an impact on changes we have to show up and we have to ensure that information is getting to our families.

1. It is important that director's are entering their families emails in the spreadsheet sent to Kathy. This is how USAW-KS will send surveys and request for information to our members and get their input that WILL impact how the state moves forward. Mike is going to send instructions to directors showing families how to opt out of the few emails sent by USAW National level if that is a concern.

2. Clubs need to have representation at the state body meeting. The by-laws and the state board allowed for the opportunity to potentially change the boundaries this weekend. We barely had enough for a quorum and by the time voting come around we didn't have enough to get to the 2/3. We still might have not got the votes needed but we can't impact change if we don't show.

I appreciate everyone that participated Sunday, regardless if you were for or against my proposal. While I think there are some issues with how we are doing business overall I think USAW-KS is in a good spot. As for the things that anyone feels need changed there is route for you to go and try to get that change to occur. I will continue to work on my proposal and hope that others will get involved with any changes you may see that could have a positive impact on our sport.

This is just a question, not a proposal -- have we ever considered going to 8 districts?

There was a proposed budget was it voted on and approved by the state body? College funding was cut in the PROPOSED budget - I talked to a few board members but I have not found out who proposed the cuts to the colleges. At a time we are trying build bridges with the high schools, kids division, and the colleges - I find it strange for USA Wrestling Kansas to make cuts at time that the institutions are investing in our sport by adding programs and student/athletes are getting new opportunities all over the state. It has never been a more exciting time. No state in the country can boast the addition of as many men and women's wrestling student athlete opportunities. The Kansas College Wrestling Fund has always received a letter of thank you from the college coaches and their respective school administrators. I have noticed many many positive things the colleges are doing to get out in the community in their areas. Thank you to all those supporting Kansas Wrestling at all levels.

Sincerely,

There was a budget, well it was marked as “incomplete” or “draft”. It looked very different than the past years and didn’t seem to show in the depth information it used to. Somebody mentioned they were giving more money to summer styles.
