2003 Predictions for Kids Wrestling - 10/17/02 10:30 PM
My prediction for best wrestling of 2003 is <> Well wait, let me tell you the good stuff first. This kid is by far one of the most mature 10 year olds you will ever meet. He earns nearly straight A’s and rarely misses a practice. He is an all around athlete and participates in football and baseball, and has recent been thinking about that other sport (basketball). He is supported by great parents. In wrestling he is a two time state placer placing 5th in 2001 and 4th in 2002. He finished the year with 49 takedowns, 12 pins, and 26 wins.
OK, ready for that drum roll…. <> My pick for 2003 wrestler of the year is Marquel Jones.
Never heard of him? Well sometimes it’s not always where you been but where you're goin and Marquel had been climbin the mountain for a long time and with his performance at nationals last year ( can be seen on http://www.wycowrestling.com ) he has proved to me that he is ready for the spotlight.
<> Hold on I got a phone call…
See when you open your mouth you have to know that u can’t please everybody. I was quickly reminded one of our very talented kids who nearly went from the valley to the peak of the mountain in one year.
Thomas Hegarty who wrestled 12U 115lbs last year, started last year off with 2 wins and 7 loses, including a depressing loses to a girl (which we reminded him of for weeks to come.) From January to the State Tournament we won 28 more matches with 7 loses (not bad for a first year wrestler). After saying all of that Thomas Hegarty gets my vote as well…
<< Take phone off the hook>>
I got a feeling Charles Groves will be calling next.
Before I go remember this. Sometimes the good guys get overlooked here are two guys u want to keep an eye out for.
