Have we had enough of pre-season rankings yet? As the Kansas State Editor for USAW Magazine, I am working on an all-class ranking for our wrestlers. To get us started, here is the first shot at it.(Any input?)

I saw Napier in the national rankings but not Caldwell.

In my opinion, that match is a toss-up. I would take CJ in Freestyle and give a slight edge to Tyler in Folkstyle.

Caldwell beat CJ in folkstyle at Brute.
Tanenbaum beat Graham head to head last year at Derby.

Chief, I also see that at 125 you have Tyler McCormick #3. That's pretty remarkable, considering that Tyler is at the University of Missouri and ranked number 2 in the nation at 133lb. I guess if he cut that much weight to 125 he might only muster a 3rd place ranking all class. Maybe his brother, Nathan, should take his spot at 125.

215 - Nick Kriss has a win over both Caylor and Downs at the Fall Brawl a couple of weeks ago. He also came home with the Championship at the Monster Match this last weekend with a very impressive win in the finals. I beleive Doxon from Goodland was the champion in the 285 bracket also. Still havent heard anything definitive whether Hawkins is wrestling or not, but he's deserving to be listed if he's out.

Having not grown up with the McCormick family, I keep mixing Nathan with Tyler.

blaine smith beat vesta twice during the highschool season last year.

Actually, I will be going 119 this year, and John will be going 125.

They didn't wrestle at Beloit. Did they meet up at Junction City?

Livengood beat Callahan last year.

I believe the Jesseph brothers from chanute should be in the mix somewhere.

What about Joey Lutz? He always gives Tanenbaum a run for his money.

As much as I like Joey, he lost to Jake twice last year. He did get the first takedown in both matches, but got pinned in the first and majored in the next. I expect Joey to be top 3 at 140 this year in 6A!

Tanner Kriss 171 was 2-0 against Davis and 1-0 against Long last year.

yes chief, blaine did beat him at junction city, but he also beat him at the salina south tournament.

The State tournament carries a lot of weight. Davis placed 2nd after beating Stuart, who pinned Kriss. I also agree that head to head is the best criteria, however the latest results especially on the big stage at State against like opponents are hard to overlook.

Thanks for the input. Those results do create mixed feelings. The 5A 103 bracket was MUCH tougher than 6A. With Stokes, Wood, Keller and Salas in that bracket, a 6th place finish by Blaine is understandable. In most cases, State Champions are given preference. I'll consider reshuffling that weight.

Where are the all class team rankings? (tournament/dual) I think the tourny and dual team rankings would be quit different.

I'm working on those too. I'll have to stay with the tournament team rankings as we have no dual team state.

the 189 and 215 lineups are interesting. Guessing you're eastern Ks boy, as not much love for Heckel/189, Racette/215. They have both been quite good for awhile. Racette is deserving of higher "guesstimate". Heckel probably is too, just don't know #2,3 guys.

I kind of chuckle over some of the rankings and the reactions they get. I will say on 215, I’ve seen all the young gentlemen wrestle except one. If Joe Bach is going 215, I would defiantly rank him 1st and pencil him in the finals with out a doubt, he is a stud. No disrespect to anyone. What did he go last year, something like 38-0 & a dominate State Champ. It will be a fun year to watch how everyone finishes. Good luck to all!!!

Why there are some very good lower classmen in the 215lb, I think by the end of the year the upper classmen will prove to be the cream of the crop. With no disrespect to any of the wrestlers. Here are my thoughts for what it’s worth. Why Kriss has improved, I don’t see him ranked 1st. I see Bach the one at the top. I haven’t see Racette wrestle so not sure how to rank him, but I would think Kober,Racette,Kriss would figure in there next. While Caylor and Bird are defiantly going to be there in the end, I think the upper classmen experience will keep them from being in the finals “this year”. Downs is coming off a early season ending injury last year. While very rusty, he should be up to speed by the end of the season and should figure in the mix somewhere. I know most of these wrestlers and wish them all a good season.

215 is a tough one to call. Joe Bach is the obvious choice if he really does get to that weight. I really can't see why he would though. There is interest in him by D1 schools. Unless he plans on some serious pulling to 197, he is a HWT. If he wants to continue wrestling after HS, he's much better off getting HWT competition. If he does get to 215, I'll be the first to get him ranked there. The Nick Kriss ranking came from the Fall Brawl last month. He beat Caylor, who is our Fargo double National Champion. Kriss also won a tough Monster Match bracket in Colorado. Having said that, I'm still considering moving Kober and Racette up.

215? It sure would be great to lift and grow into that college projection for you Joe. I agree with Racette moving up. Heckel is also tough, but probably close to that ranking.

Who is this Bach heavyweight?

He is a senior from Liberal who won 5A State at 215 last year. 5A 215 was a very tough division last year and Joe was pretty dominant in that class. I think he was undefeated last year. I believe his dad has stated a couple of times that Joe was planning on wrestling 215 again this year. He is a very good wrestler and he will be real tough at whatever weight he ends up wrestling this year 215 or heavyweight.

I will say that if Chief is correct that Duane Zlatnick is our number three ranked heavyweight in Kansas this year, then Kansas has to be one of the best states overall in the country this year for heavyweights. Zlatnick is a two time defending State champion in 3-2-1A. I am not sure if he has even lost a match in the last two years. I just viewed this weekend the final match of the Bobcat last year and Zlatnick is very intimidating. He has great speed, power, size and wrestling skills. That should be one great match when he and Atticus Disney meet at the Topeka city tournament at the end of the year before regionals.

No Topeka or Shawnee County tourney this year Vince. Not sure if they will match anytime this season.

That is too bad. Zlatnick vs. Disney really would be a great match of two of the top heavyweights in the country. Maybe it will happen in some off season competition.

Kansas can sure be proud of our HWT's. The last two years, Bach, Disney and Andrus have gone:

Andrus - 50-7

I believe Duane lost to Elijah Madison by 1 point. He is the #3 ranked Kansas prospect in Football and doesn't wrestle FS/GR. Too bad he won't wrestle in college. Selfishly, I would love to have Joe Bach at 215 for the Junior Duals but his college future will be at HWT. Even after these three, we have deep talent at 285 with Jacob Nowak, Lucas Vincent, Brock Heithaus, Alex Thomas, Spencer Hilley and several others.

Eric - Why do you think Bach's college future is only at heavyweight? Look at guys like Ian Bork who wrestled 215 and then went 197 in college. College guys cut a lot of weight. I know some guys move up to heavyweight from 215 or even 189 but I also think it depends on body size and what the kids natural walking around weight is. Someone who is naturally 220 is well within range of 197 for college. I don't know what weight Joe will end up in college but I certainly think he would fit in nicely at 197 if he desired.

Jessie Strawn comes to mind. He easily could have wrestled 215 as a senior. He stayed at 189 to show colleges his quickness and etc.. Now he is wrestling 184. Erisman, Grater, etc.. all wrestled less in college than in high school. It just depends on body size.

Some also wrestle up in high school for the betterment of their team.

When and where did Zlatnick lose to Madison by one point? I thought Duane was undefeated last year. I thought Dom Bradley might have defeated Andrus by a point last year. I think maybe Madison and Disney met last year in a close match.

Zlatnick, Disney, Andrus and Madison (now at Oak Park in KCMO) are all national ranked heavyweights and they are all originally from Kansas.

Barry - I have info from a reliable source that Bach weighed 240 with just his shorts on. I really believe that 197 is out of the question. His Dad is a big framed guy and I can see Joe at 265 and ripped in college.

I am sure we will See Bird, Kriss and Kober at some point run into each other at state.
Downs has always been a strong tough kid even when he was little in kids wrestling.He has always had the drive.

Chief, if you think back, he weighed 215 at end of July. His "walk-around-weight" during football is more like 230-235. The high school wrestling practices alone will cut 10 lbs., if all else remains the same. A simple change in diet will remove the rest. I can assure you that he eats 4-5 times a day, and drinks gallons of water. Yes I too agree that IF he is going to be a heavyweight, that is where he should wrestle. However, the quantity and quality of matches from competitive standpoint is better at 215. Not that I'm knocking anyone, just that bigger guys tend to stand around and jockey for position. Smaller guys tend to actually wrestle, which is what we are hoping for, as spectators. Joe was told at OSU intensive camp by a coach, that he could wrestle 197 in college, and not have a weight problem, the training is that intense.
All that being said, Joe has a pretty good understanding of all factors, and usually comes up with good decisions, by himself.

Clearly Zlatnik was undefeated last year. He told me that he had lost to Madison the year before. That big/small match will be something to see. Too bad we don't see any dual sport kids anymore in college.

If he can stay at 215 for the Duals, Team Kansas would be greatly improved. I know when he missed weight last year, they felt the pain. I just figured that he would follow in your footsteps and continue to grow, making 215 tough to make again.

Yes, I saw last year that he won the 5A State discus championship too. Two individual state championships in the same year. Your family has to be very proud of his accomplishments. That shows a tremendous amount of overall athletic talent to be that good at three sports. That is not seen as much these days of one sport athletes. Congratulations to Joe and your family.

As far as college goes, I am sure he has D-1 options in football and wrestling. It would be hard to do both. I could almost see that he could do all three sports at a smaller school if he was interested in that option. The good thing is that he has all those options.

Your link to the USA Wrestling rankings are actually the subscription based for profit W.I.N. Magazine rankings.

Guys do not get to excited about rankings to soon. Early January and the end of February might have more meaning. Read todays KC Star about early rankings and compare it to 10 games in. Larry Johnson was a preseason football favorite I'll bet - but recent statistics are showing he is down the list in most catagories.

These preseason rankings, 8th vs. 9th and state championships threads (all of them) are fun and entertaining. The results of these predictions have a history of being in error. The threads are fun, entertaining and start good conversation about a sport we all love and enjoy watching. I enjoy the comedy before and after the results have unfolded. I also can respect the time invested to put together such data. The time and effort to keep a buzz going about a great sport as wrestling is awesome.

There will still be many edits made when these wrestlers finally: make weight, become eligible, stay injury/sick free, favoritism removed, keep the grades in order and stay in good standings with parents and coaches. The wrestlers will give the final rankings with there performance. Granted there are some solid estimates that could be made very easily. The ones that maintain good grades, respectful attitudes combined with there wrestling ability. Atticus Disney would be my quickest example but the list goes on.

The season has started and the wrestling community is very excited. The time and energy that a handful of adults put into keeping the pulse alive for the sport of wrestling is appreciated. I also give extra credit to the adults that give there time when there kids have moved on. Richard would be a nice example.

Keep the fun and entertainment alive because eventually the rolling edits will play out to be correct. The time frame for correct information will no doubt be the results of the Kansas State Tournament.

Where is Mertins from Valley Center? He beat Graham twice last year and Jesseph? 2006 2nd at state, 2007 third.

Seth deserves to be in there. I will correct that. Preference was given to 2007 State finalists. Graham beat him 8-4 at state. Graham, Rogers and Jesseph were State champions while Tanenbaum and Nelson were runners-up. At 43-3, Mertins deserves to be ranked. I might put him in at #4 and move Jesseph and Nelson down. Thanks for the input.

What about Lorson from Topeka Seaman at 171? I'm pretty sure that he beat Davis and Elliott last year, and he wrestled Cotton pretty tough in the finals. He should figure into the mix somehow.

Lorson lost to Nill in the semis and didn't wrestle Cotton. When did he beat Elliott?

Jace Campbell from Oakley should probably be in there somewhere @ 119. He was second in state last year to Colt Rogers and beat Alonzo Hernandez from Garden City 12-3.

You can take TJ Lorson off the rankings for 171. And I apologize to everyone for making a case to get him on the rankings earlier. He has decided a job is worth more than a State Championship, and did not come out for wrestling. I wish it were not so, but that was his decision.

Deshazer, Callahan, Slyter and Stokes. On any given Saturday, you could end up seeing these guys in any order. I realize that Junction City showed us some things about three of them. In this case, I have put more emphasis on "in season" folkstyle criteria as opposed to June freestyle and greco results. If I had any other order, it would still leave some valid second guessing. Hopefully we will see some clashes with these tough kids soon!

At the frontier league, you will see Stokes, Callahan, and Slyter, all in the same bracket. That looks to be awesome, the only way you could better that is to throw in someone like Wood, or weller.... Cause someone is going to have a tough semifinals match.

How can the #1 ranked 119 at 4A not be ranked in ALL CLASS , but the #2 is ranked??

The only logical explanation is the 4A ranker and the All-Class ranker are two different people. The Bobcat should clear that weight up a bit.

First off DARRIN is a senior,he did not wrestle at BC,I believe he was sick,he did win 6-5 over ruiz ot C.C but was in control of that match and gave up some cheap pts at the end,he is a true 103,this is the first year I believe he had to cut little to get there,small kid,but to not include him in overall rankings is a mistake but everyone has a opinion,curious what other 103 lb in 4a think is person to beat

I believe the Chief has listed Ornelas and Moeder, both 4A 103. Moeder already owns a win this season over Antilon the '07 321A State Champ. I think Stroot might have been overlooked because he wrestled some 112 and Colton Eck was 103 for Andale early on. There are over 150 103lbers out there so it takes some time to sort out the best.

Man, 112 is one jacked up weight. A kid gets teched one week and beats the same kid 13-6 the next. A hard weight to call. I know Sharky moved up to 119 for Basehor, but I expect him back down at 112. Stokes had a big win against Deshazer but lost to Sharky on Wednesday. I adjusted 112.

Ryan Patterson was an undefeated State Champion last year, but has moved up from 160 to 189. Any input vs. those I have ranked ahead of him?

No disrespect to Hinkley but I think as a rater you would have to take into consideration the giant screwing that Jordan suffered the previous night. It was good, hard, tough wrestling but not a slam, in my opinion. Lets not pussify the sport!

Two exhausted wrestlers knowing that if they win that semi-finals match, will take first. I guess I might have to agree that that semi-final match between Thoman and Brown took stamina from both wrestlers, however you must put your head between your legs to say "Lets not pussify the sport!" Was that a slam? Well, it was a very close call. If you look at the rule book, you have to have control and a knee must land before your opponent. Once again, very close call. Thoman's arms were trapped and the knee hit at the same time as Thoman's back. I personally left it in the hands of the ref. He was closer to the action and that is his job. Yeah, it is a judgement call and that is not why I am responding. I am responding because of your claim that Thoman is "pussifying" the sport. Is that a word? I dont know who you are, but if you want to put your foot on the line with Thoman, I promise you will walk away "pussified!"

I don't see where Cokley said anything about Thoman "pussifying" the sport! I can't speak for him, but I am almost positive he is referring to the referee (not Thoman). When two good wrestlers are on the mat the outcome should be left in their hands, not the refs. From everything I have heard the ref in this match turned a 5 point move for Brown into a 1 point move for Thoman.

It sure looked like a slam to a few of us sitting right there. I congratulate the young man for continuing the match.

My comment was directed towards the trend of folkstyle officials getting to conservative. Gregg, you need to look in the rule book because there is nothing in the rule book about the knee hitting the mat first. It is a total judgement call and Thoman has no control over that. I don't need to stick my head anywhere to have an opinion that Folkstyle is "pussified" compared to Freestyle or Greco and even compared to a few years ago. In my opinion Thoman should have been hit with another stalling during the last 35 seconds that he ran from Brown. This would have put the match into OT and the wrestlers could have decided the win. If an official is concerned for the safety of the wrestler, blow the whistle and call potentially dangerous instead of awarding unearned points.

I too commend Thoman for continueing and not taking an automatic win. I never meant any disrespect for him as he did what he needed to do to win with this particular official.

You really missed this one. Clearly he was referring to the call, not Thoman. Everybody who knows Sam respects him as a great competitor. I can also say that he wouldn't have wanted that call either. That's the kind of character he has. As far as "knowing" they would win first, that road still went through Bonewell and the Andale animal got it done.

Refering to Brown vs. Thoman, the refs #1 job is safety for the wrestlers. Slam or not, Carl was using his judgement and experience to stop the match. Now as far as Hinkley vs. Brown, there was no "giant screwing" to Brown in that match. Hinkley just beat him. Great match. Hinkley got a takedown with 12 sec. left and rode him out. 4-3 final. If Brown was still thinking about losing the day before, get over it and wrestle. Quit crying about it. Don't let the match be that close where a ref's judgement could turn the match around.

How does calling a slam help with safety??? That is bs. Blow your whistle and call potentially dangerous then you are protecting the wrestlers. Awarding points by judging whether or not someone hit the mat too hard is not wrestling and it isn't helping the sport become more safe either. If your too slow to intervene then get off the mat.

If you think a controversial loss, right or wrong, doesn't impact a teenage kid you are wrong. At the end of the day most of these wrestlers still can't vote, buy beer, enter into a contract or completely control their emotions because they are still kids.

If officials worked as hard at making the right calls as most of these wrestlers work then there wouldn't be as many controversial calls. Just because you take a test, attend three meetings, put on your appropriate shirt and pants, get your name in the KSHSAA book doesn't make you a good official. The good ole boy system is alive and thriving and it is time we get a decent evaluation system in place that would allow us to properly use veteran officials and get the valuable experience and post season assignments to the best officials whether they are young, old, new, seasoned or whatever. Right now it is just a giant zebra popularity contest.

I watched the Brown thoman match and It wasn't a slam it was good hard wrestling. I thought some of the officials at the bobcat were horrible, I have seen one of them three times this year and at one time he might have been good, but he isn't any more it's time for him to retire he's been at it too long.

I never attempted to discount the losses. In spite of the losses I would still rate or rank Brown over both Hinkley and Thoman. I am saying that he had a bad tournament and there were mitigating circumstances. Just because Applachian State beat Michigan didn't mean that they would be rated as a better team. When ranking you have to lean towards what would happen the majority of the time. I merely used the circumstances to point out some challenges/issues that could be addressed or should be addressed. According to one of our posters, head to head meetings don't count either! That must make seeding meetings very interesting?

What is your thoughts on the following?

If the wrestlers have not met this year, should rankings be based on head to head that happened the year before or on the wrestlers current year performance?
Example: Wrestler A beats Wrestler B last season but they have not met yet this season. Wrestler A's current record is 20-4 and Wrestler B's current record is 24-2....how should they be ranked?

Anderson also beat Rockhold in Rossville finals, 4-3.

I'm not big on rankings in general, but you have the most timely update on what weight kids are at and how they are doing. It makes keeping up with the state's best a lot easier for someone that's on the outside looking in (like me).

Not having ever undertaken the thankless task of ranking wrestlers,I have little doubt that the ranking of wrestlers (particularly those who have not had an opportunity to recently wrestle each other) is ordinarily a very subjective and difficult task, at best. I would presume however that I am also correct in hazzarding an opinion there are always a few extra-ordinary wrestlers around who invite no sane controversy, in these matters: Romero Cotton immediately comes to mind. I would also offer up Kyle Detmer as a possible wrestler who appears to have distanced and/or separated himself from his pack, as well. Perhaps, Atticus Disney should also be included, but I've heard a few people suggest that Bach, Zlatnik, Andrus, (before his injury) and Kober (who only lost to Disney by a point), would give him a pretty good run for his money. Not being familiar with other such wrestlers out there, I nonetheless presume that they are out there. I'm not referring to wrestlers the likes of Calwell, Arnold and/or Isenberg, and many others - all gritty, double-tough and truely outstanding wrestlers - but when they wrestle one another, there is mystery and/or intrigue surrounding the outcome. I'm referring to those wrestlers who potentially could breeze through a season - not only undefeated (at least in Kansas) but do so in an extra-ordinary manner (i.e. such as all victories by fall, never scored upon, never have been taken down, etc...) Any names come to mind?

Question regarding Chase Nelson from Wichita Heights. Is he now going to wrestle at 135 lbs? I've been to a couple of fairly recent tournaments where he wrestled 140 lbs. Any information on his intentions at regional/state?

I believe he will be at 135 the rest of the way.

Jordan Meyer, 152pder for Sabetha is 16-0 with 12 falls, 2 tech falls and 2 descisions, he just gave up his first takedowns of the season to Travis Rempe in the Beloit finals, which he won 7-4.
He had 12 falls in a row until the Semi-Finals of Beloit.But he recently fell out of the rankings at this weight on this post.

And being a ranker myself for 321-A it is a VERY subjective and hard thing to do, it takes about 3-4 hours everytime to rearrange the rankings. I am learning on the job so I do not receive much flak at the moment, I am sure that will change as time goes by! Thanks for all the information from all of the coaches out there that make the job easier!

Are you seriously calling out a high school kid? Sure what it looks like to me. If I'm wrong I will apologize...other opinions...

The rankings really mean nothing. I think they are entertaining and it is healthy to speculate and predict. We have them for every major college sport so why not have them in wrestling. There is no way to completely settle the all class rankings since Grand State was eliminated more than three decades ago so who is number one in the all class ranking is really anyone's guess. I commend the Chief for his passion, interest, and the hours of time he puts into researching and interviewing to compile his list. Having many times spent time pow wowing and smokng the peace pipe, I know that he has the best interest of wrestling in mind first and foremost. He trys to be as fair and as unbiased as possible. He does the best he can with the information that is available. (By the way, shame on all of you coaches who do not report complete results in a timely manner! Notice the number of duals and dual tournaments that do not have the individual results reported!) Rankings are not seedings (by the way, which needs to be a topic all to itself as most are ridiculous attempts at manipulating the brackets.) They are the reporting of the order of ability of each wrestler in each weight class in a MAJORITY of matchups. One match may or may not impact the rankings as the rater may still feel that a wrestler would have won in a majority of the match ups. Hail to the CHIEF!!

Puetz from Garden Plain, who is ranked 3rd in 321a. He pinned him in the second period. Patterson looked really good. I heard the kid he beat placed third at state last year (Oklahoma), but I can't verify that.

I would move the 2 Goddard boys to the top of the lists at 160 & 171 as well as Mitch Means at his weight. Goddard and Bishop Carroll are dominating teams. Too bad we can't have a "Grand State Dual" tournament!!! WOW, just imagine!

Where's Anderson on 119. He's beaten Hase and Rockhold this year.

Tyler Anderson is certainly a tough wrestler. This weight class is completely stacked. His losses that I know of are to Nitcher, Keller 2X and Rose. His win over Rockhold is legitimate, but the fall over Hase doesn't prove anything in my opinion. He got a medal and bracket for it, but defensive pins don't prove superiority. He was controlled the entire pinning combination and won the match. If I had to add more kids at 119, Anderson would be up there with Justin Rose and Chaz Lawrence. The next few weeks might prove me wrong on this. Good luck to Tyler the rest of the way.

What if Sharky Slyter was to be at 119. Where would he be in all of this. He has said that he might go 119 for the rest of the year and he has beaten Hase from silver lake.

Good question. I would say #2. I think there's a good chance he will move up, but will wait and see.

Hopefully this weekend they will seed them so that Sharky gets a shot at both Anderson and a rematch with Hase. Or Hase will get a rematch with Anderson... Wish I was going to be there!

Chief, just a question for you. I see that Stroot is ranked ahead of Ornelas at 103 in the 4a rankings. How can someone that is not ranked first in his class be ranked first in the whole state? It really does not matter that much because I actually think Vesta should be #1 with his quality wins this year.

The main reason for the difference is there are different rankers for each class as well as the All-Class rankings. At 103, Orenelas has beaten Penka, who won the Derby tournament over Windham. Ruiz lost to Vesta at Salina South and beat Stroot at the Bobcat.

Windham beat Stroot last night and will face Ornelas in the finals at Rose Hill.

According to the Rose Hill bracket online Ornelas is 24-2 entering competition this weekend.

I saw that too about Ornelas being 24-2 or something like that. I am still curious why you don't have Vesta ranked first. He has defeated Ruiz twice, Moeder twice, Blaine Smith, and had a major decision over Windham at Newton. I really am not disrespecting Chanute kid, I just don't know much about him.

At 103 I know Ruiz has lost twice to Vesta by decision. Windham lost to Vesta by major decision. Vesta beat Moeder twice by decision and pinned Smith from South. I am not sure if Ruiz has other losses. It looks to me like you are pretty close. Who has Ornelas lost to?

Penka pinned both Ruiz and Windham at the Valley Center Dual Tourny. Penka also beat Windham 8-2 in the Derby Finals. Then Windham beat Penka at Newton 7-3. The other matches between Ruiz and Windham have (I'm pretty sure) already been mentioned.

Jac has wrestled Caylor twice this season before this last weekend and has lost, but winning this last weekend.

Tyler only had 1 chance to possably wreslte Caylor so far this season, which would of been the TOC at Newton. Tyler didn't wrestle the tourament due to injury that he had from the Derby Tournamnent the weekend before. His next chance will be at State.

215 lbs is stacked in this state! Caylor and Cole (2 great kids and wrestlers) had yet another exciting match-up at the GWAL. As mentioned earlier, this time Jake came out on top (contratulations to Jake!). Unfortunately, too date, I've not seen Bach, Racette & Kober wrestle. They must be phenomenal. Wouldn't the ranked wrestlers included in the 215 lbs weight make for a great round-robin?

Does he have any losses to those behind him? A kid can only wrestle those in his bracket. I know he lost to Dylan Joiner in the finals at BIT, ahead of Arb, Wuthnow and Baughman.

A nice talking point, but are their any specific snubs that you can see against the non metro kids or did you not think before you wrote that? Of the 106 ranked All-Class wrestlers, 76 are outside of the KC Metro area. Where is the Metro bias?

I do not mean to disrespect your efforts… my point is that some of this would be better left alone it serves no purpose to anybody. There are class rankings that the Coaches support, yours should have a disclaimer attached stating this your opinion and make of it what you want. I have been to the four corners of the state and watched some the best 45lber’s around. I have never claimed to be an expert nor have I attempted to parlay my passion into some sort of self worth! Let the marbles fall where they may in a couple of weeks. It is senseless to even compare young men that will never meet during the course of the season.

As mentioned in a previous thread, soon, all opinion will give way to results on the mat. I'd venture a guess that the final rankings set forth in these threads will, in large measure, prove to be reasonably accurate. Sure,there will likely be some tweaking here and there (unfortunately, no one has fairy dust they can magically sprinkle in the air to assert a guarantee), but the odds are that it will pretty much be the same mix of wrestlers already identified in the rankings. Hide and watch.

Let me fill you in on the individual class rankings. They are also opinions. Mel Miller and myself currently maintain the 6A rankings that you speak of. Every class ranking as well as the All-Class ranking are maintained through input of coaches, wrestlers, fans and parents. For a guy that has been to the four corners of the state, you really think that these wrestlers never meet each other? Just the opposite is true. Most of them have met on the mat. Are you also opposed to the national ranking services? How are these rankings not letting the marbles fall where they may? Your opinion on these rankings are truly one-of-a-kind. Am I not ranking Manhattan kids high enough?

How many of the wrestlers in the All-Class rankings have you personally seen wrestle?
I began receiving personal messages and emails shortly after the All-Class rankings began and I can assure you there are many who share this same sentiment.
The individual class rankings are maintained by the KWCA and the designated ranking coordinator. The 3-2-1A Ranking Coordinator, the 4A Ranking Coordinator and the 5A Ranking Coordinator are all high school wrestling coaches. Only the 6A Ranking Coordinator(s) are not high school coaches. It is reasonable to conclude most forum members believe a high school wrestling coach to be far more credible than a parent who maintains his own personal "All-Class ranking".
As stated previously, Red's corner is crowded with supporters who share his "one-of-a-kind" opinion.

Chief is doing this for fun, He is not trying to snub anyone. Come on people get a life, these rankings don't mean squat.

I support the Chief on this one. As a wrestler, I've never really taken rankings all that seriously, so I see no harm in somebody posting an all class rankings based on opinions. I think it's good for the forum as it stirs up some debate. In no way is it completely accurate though, as wrestlers can be beaten on any certain day and many of these kids trade off wins throughout the season.

P.S. bonus points to red for using parlay in a sentence!

I have personally seen 94 of the 106 ranked wrestlers. How many have you seen wrestle? With over 31000 views, you think that nobody is interested? I have had many coaches call or e-mail me with input. You are the 2nd person that has stated they find no value in the rankings. My own personal ranking? Do I detect ranking envy?

I'm not partial to anyone in particular doing the all class ranking, but I definitely enjoy it. It gives me personally some insight to weights and wrestlers from other areas that I'm not readily familiar with. I dont beleive Chief appears to show any bias to a certain demographic area, and it seems obvious to me that he puts in a HUGE amount of his personal time into trying to be as accurate as humanly possible on something this subjective. It also seems to me that when someone suggests a different order he readily considers it. Most importantly it is OBVIOUSLY nothing official and no claims have been made that it is that I'm aware of!! I appreciate seeing it Chief and hope others that do will say so as well. If someone doesnt like it, I also hope they will post it just as Mark has, rather than sending it as a private message to a messanger.

I enjoy the ranking. My son is not yet in high school, but the 2 of us have watched a number of the kids mentioned in the rankings in kids club and at freestyle state and southern plains. The ranking allows us to track these kids and see where 'they make rank' within the state as a whole. In other words, the ranking create interest. We went to see our high school's league tourny this weekend, and believe me, we need more interest in wrestling. The Chief is trying to accomplish that. Its a great sport, lets get as much interest in it as we can. And, if you are going to say you mean no disrespect, then don't say something that is disrespectful. As he asked, what rankings do you disagree with. I have never seen the Chief disregard anyone's input.

First off I better clarify that I am a good friend of Chief Renegade so I am biased. But to be honest with you, if you like wrestling you too should be a friend of the Chief. He is the biggest wrestling in Kansas (even though he went to HS in Oklahoma.) The Chief will listen to anyone and has no secret agenda. I love all of the rankings and I appreciate the time the rankers have put into them. It is crazy that anyone should get worked up over an opinion and say the rankings are worthless. The Chief aims to entertain and inform which is a lot more than can be said about others who choose to spend an inordinate amount of time on this site.

Please include me as an enthusiastic supporter of ranking wrestlers in the state of kansas, to particularly include, all-class wrestlers.

As well, suffice to say that in my opinion the Chief deserves a hearty note of thanks for his willingness to unselfishly devote his time, extensive knowledge and energy to this thankless task.

Throughout the wrestling season, the Chief has placed his considered OPINION on the line, for all to consider, debate and otherwise challenge. And the Kansas wrestling community has done just that as obviously reflected by the attention this particular thread has generated. It would not surprise me that the Chief has his personal "favorites" and/or "prejudices" (as we all do, to include those involved in ranking at any level, in any sport)- but if he does, he does a pretty good job of either suppressing or disguising same. He responds to all comments (positive and negative) in a very timely,civil manner. He has demonstrated, time and again, his willingness and ability to consider other's "opinions", and on countless occasions, has adjusted his "rankings" accordingly.

I believe that it was Winston Churchill, who, when asked about the concept of democracy, once stated: "Democracy is the absolute worst form of government there is ... except every other that has ever been tried". This sentiment captures my attitude involving rankings as a resource to give us an idea how our wrestlers from the various classes, "stack-up" (remember, there is no grand state competition). Of course, it would be better to allow all wrestlers to "face-off on the mat". It's just not possible nor practical.

As an aside, even if we were to abandon the practice of having a central depository of opinion(s) for the ranking of our wrestlers in this state, it would hardly end the debate, controversy and endless arguments as to who is better and/or best - we just wouldn't have anywhere or anyone to go to, to lend support and/or criticism for our own point of view. By my way of thinking, so long as we have competition, we'll always want to "keep-score": meaning, know who is ahead and who is behind, at any given point in time. Ranking serves as a vehicle for this purpose, imperfect though it may be.

Rankings motivate and, at times, probably intimidate wrestlers. Rankings invite controversy, debate and argument, among wrestlers,their coaches and fans; but, at least wrestling is being discussed - attention is being paid to the sport.

Everyone knows that rankings are opinions, which are the product of speculation, hearsay and whatever else anyone allows to enter their particular opinion process. So be it.

The Chief, in another thread, included comments which struck me as particularly true and worthy of repeat. In effect, he mentioned that a particular wrestler, at a given point in time "owns" that ranking. While I'm not exactly sure what he meant by that, I choose to believe that this sentiment at least contemplates the fact that a particular wrestler can always lay claim to the fact, that in someone else's considered opinion, this particular wrestler's status was, if for a brief period of time, exalted and he was celebrated as an elite wrestler. I like that!

I check the rankings regularly and although I don't always agree with the ranker, the rankings nonetheless gives me a pretty good point of reference as to how the various wrestlers in the various classes stack-up against each other. It definitely adds a dimension of intrigue and/or anticipation to match-ups between wrestlers.

Chief, what does Vesta have to do to be number 1 at 103? I see that Ornelas has 2 losses on the state brackets. Vesta is 34-0 with several wins over the other ranked guys. I am really curious what it would take for you to put him at #1.

Vesta has had another great year. I know and respect Jeff and have seen him wrestle many times. He's had some big wins representing Kansas against other states. There are two basic reasons that I've had Ornelas ranked above him. One is that the two losses that Ornelas has were at 112. The other reason is, the last time they wrestled each other at the Park Hill Duals, Ornelas controlled and won the match. Can Jeff beat Kenneth on a given day? Absolutely. It's just at this point the criteria points to the current ranking. If anyone has more input, I would be glad to reconsider.

Jake Zahm has a win over both Cameron Jesseph and Seth Mertins this year.

Well Chief, possibly I'll have some input for you on Friday evening. Two basically 1 point losses to Vesta this year, and now a potential semi-final match-up with Ornelas. If you can wait that long, I'll give you a firsthand opinion!

Aaron Hoag and Sal Tovar both beat Connor McCarthey at state this last weekend.

I find it funny that you moved Ruiz in front of Vesta because Vesta is 8-1 against him in the last two years and lost last night on a very questionable call. I understand that you put him in front of him if this was their first meeting meeting but Ornelas lost twice this year and you didn't move him.

Ornelas lost twice at 112 and is a State Champion at 103. Vesta, along with Detmer and Isenberg own victories over the wrestler that beat them this weekend. The last meeting, especially on the biggest stage, carries the most weight.

who cares about rankings. if your not number 1 your just the first loser or the 2nd loser. does it matter that much. anyone of those guys can beat each other on any given day. so if your not first your just last.

It is true that on any given day, many of those in the top ten can win the bracket. However, if you end up second on that day, one position you are NOT is last.

I think that you need to add Jace Banner to the list at 189. He already beat Nate Davis of Liberal. The score was 6-6 with Long before being dq. Tough tough kid.

Should Breck Arnberger of Colby be considered for the list at 160? He placed 4th at State in 4A with an 8-7 loss to Thoman in the semifinals and a 3-1 loss to Davis in the consolation finals. He also beat Curtis at the Newton Tourney and placed above Rosenhamer at Newton as well. He struggled a little at regionals, but came through and proved himself at state. Just a thought?

Breck had a great State tournament beating Hambleton twice and Holland also. Was that his only match with Curtis? His 12 losses shows everybody how tough of a schedule Colby wrestled.

After this weekend I think at 112 Gentzler should be above Callahan and at 119 I think Sparr should be above Slyter.

There are some tough calls Curtis. I have tried to be consistent with what I call the "Ruiz" rule. When Isaac beat Vesta in the 6A final, he moved up in spite of being 1-8 against Jeff. When they don't meet head to head, the season long body of work takes precedence. That is the main reason for Callahan staying highly ranked. Granted, that reasoning falls apart when I disregard the Ruiz rule and keep Sharky above Sparr. What weighed heavily in my decision was that Cokeley could not beat Sharky or Callahan 15-5. Another thing that was grinding on me was staring at Sharky and Hase at #5 and #6. Sharky is 2-0 against Hase and I just couldn't see ranking them that low. I understand that Sharky beat Cokeley last week 8-5, but a State Championship carries criteria weight also. You will notice that I applied the Ruiz rule at 140 and 152.

I know what you're saying. Those are about the only 2 disagreements I have with you in the rankings, which is pretty impressive since there are 14 weight classes and several solid kids at each one.

I would never name anyone to bring up an excuse, but it did hurt their performance. 119 is incredibly difficult to rank. Sparr deserves total credit for a great tournament. He is one tough kid in one tough weight class!

Agreed. I think if OW was awarded it would have went to Cokeley who had an outstanding tourney. I would argue with anyone that 4a 119 was the toughest bracket in the state in any class.

Some good points hotrodder. The Ruiz rule isn't universal. 119 is a prime example. At State, Sharky beat Anderson 13-5, then Anderson beat Weller 6-3. To add to the confusion, Weller beat Sharky 4-0. If that was the end of the story, you would either draw for seeds or rank them, Anderson, Weller, Slyter by the order that they placed. Among other factors, Slyter is 2-0 vs. Hase. How low can I rank Colin Hase? You have more of a point with Sparr, but moving Weller above Sparr would put Tyler Anderson above him also. All said.....the toughest weight to rank!

Breck only wrestled Curtis once as that is the only time we see GE. I would say he beat Curtis on a good weekend for Curtis as it was the weekend that he beat Rosenhammer. I see Curtis lost a couple of times to Riojas at state who Breck also beat in their one meeting this year 3-0. Breck also beat the 321A state champ at the Beloit Tournament. Maybe 12 losses is too many to earn a spot on your all class rankings, but his wins seem to give him some criteria.

4A 119 certainly was a very competitive weight class, but compared to 5a with Keller and Nichter, none of the 4a guys would have made the finals.
The 4a outstanding wrestler is not one who beat a weaker and expected to win big but one who beat or upset several good ones. 112 4a was also loaded with Gentzler beating very tough guys and a deep, deep weight class. 4a 103 was also very deep with ornelales and stroot, moeder and steele.
I would give Gentzler the o.w. and only if Cokeley had beaten Slyter in the finals than he may have earned it. Great kids all around
and many deserving studs.

I fail to see the difference in beating Sparr or Slyter. They're both in the same bracket, and I think it's usually said that the cream will rise to the top of the bracket. Cokeley's would be very deserving of it, but I will admit Gentzler also had a heck of a tourney.

The difference in beating Sparr or Slyter is huge. Cokeley is expected to beat Sparr. Zach is an outstanding wrestler but not up to Cokeley. Cokeley is an outstanding wrestler but not up to Slyter. These kids are all competitive and outstanding kids. But, to be considered the outstanding wrestler you should either dominate your weight or defeat what most people feel are a superior opponent. Disney dominates. Cokeley wrestled great but his wins were against guys he already beat and expected to beat. Slyter moved up a weight class and has beaten Cokeley many times. For Cokeley to have earned OW for the tournament, he would of had to beaten Slyter. Slyter beat Haase at Bobcat moving up a weight against a state champ. When Cokeley, who could easily have wrestled 125, moved up to wrestle a state champ, McCormick, he got stomped.
Again, these kids are great athletes, great champions and rose to the occasion. Just as Will Cokeley states that Graham ( a 4x champion) has a lot of losses and likely would not place in the top 3 at other state divisions, he is still a great competitor but not the outstanding wrestler. So it is with his son.

I don't think you're giving Sparr enough credit. He gave Slyter a very tough match last year in the state semi finals but came up short. I would agree that before this years semis that beating Slyter would be bigger than beating Sparr, BUT Sparr knocked off Slyter in the semis this year making my argument that they are both high caliber wrestlers. Another reason I would give it to Cokeley is because 3 of his matches were against state placers, 2 of whom beat Slyter.

Jeeze, you act like I was promoting that OW go to Ryne. But I guess I will have to defend him now. I think he had an Outstanding performance. He beat three guys who were state placers last year, who are older than he is, in a bracket that had eight state placers from last year. He avenged two of his five losses. He was not scored on other than the releases (no takedowns, reversals, or near falls). Many forum followers and posters stated that it was arguably the toughest bracket in the state. Was he favored to win it? NO! Did he, YES! To me that is outstanding!

It is to the point that it looks like you don't even think he should be a state champ. Sharky beat Ryne ONE TIME 8-5. Were you at the Freestyle/Greco State tournament last summer? I have to beg to differ with you. Ryne is up to Sharky. Where do you get the "many times" comment? He is a FRESHMAN for goodness sakes. and he reads this forum so back off. I never said that Trison wouldn't finish in the top 3 in the other state divisions either. Nathan beat Ryne but I wouldn't say that he stomped him. Why do you say he "easily could have wrestled 125? What is your point? By the way, no disrespect to Colin but he is no Nathan McCormick so I don't think that is a fair comparison. Why don't youmove on and find some other state champ to bash or better yet let the kids enjoy their championships.

As I have stated before, all of these wrestlers are outstanding. To become a state champ in no matter what bracket or division is an outstanding accomplishment. It is almost silly to talk about o.w. at a particular tournament when you always have 14 deserving kids. My issue is not with a particular wrestler, and again Cokeley is outstanding. My beef is more with dads or coaches that single out o.w. Of course Cokeley is deserving of o.w. but so are the other 13 kids that won and by singling out one individual diminishes the accomplishments of other great kids i.e. Gentler, Callahan etc. As I've continually said, all of these kids are great wrestlers and the diservice is trying to name an o.w. in any tournament because once you do, you take away from someother kids accomplishment.

And then when their dad sees they only got a certificate it really gets bad!

I don't like the OW deal either and it wouldn't bother me a bit if they eliminated it across the board. The kids talk about it and want to win it (and yes even the wrestlers think a piece of paper is a joke, just ask them). But if you don't like the award then just say "They shouldn't give one." Instead you fan the flame. If Curtis wanted to give it to whoever that is fine and it really shouldn't bother you to the point of belittling other's performances. State your reasoning without getting perssonal like you did in your last post. Don't attack an individual kid's performance, especially when you don't even have your fact's straight, unless you want to read the wrath of their fathers!

Personally I think we do a disservice to all the wrestlers when we try to determine OW or even "All Class Rankings" after the State tournament is completed. There is simply no need to do either of these after State.

I don't have a problem with it during the season and the OW award can be a fun thing to debate at a regular season tournament. You can argue all you want about "who is better" but after State we know who the champion is. Sometimes the best kid is champion and sometimes he is not but he is still the champion.

Someone may say that with 4 classes we don't have a true champion so All Class Rankings are necessary. My question would be why is it necessary? The State champions have gone out and won the only championship tournament they could enter. What purpose is served by saying "if kid X would have wrestled kid Y he would have won and etc.."

I say lets pull down the "All Class" topic and quit w/ the OW after State is completed.

Agreed with both Cokeley and Barry. However, lets face it - this is just a hobby/man-soap-opera. As long as we don't personalize it, some of us enjoy speculating. The ones that don't - no one is forcing you to read this thread (or, any other for that matter). Hopefully Spring will come soon and then we will all have something better to do with our time. Until then, let the 'man soap opera' continue for those that enjoy it!

I've posted my final All-Class rankings. These rankings are listed on the Wrestling USA Magazine website. This OW conversation is unrelated to this thread topic. I won't be changing any of the AC rankings as the season is completed. I expect to update this thread after December 1st, when we return to the HS mats next season. I say keep the thread open, but let's move off of it for ongoing posts.

Mr. Disney’s post makes way to much sense (as he always does). Let’s take a break from speculating in these multiple directions about who is better than whom. The high school state tournament has determined who placed in what order in there respective class. Praise should be given to all of these young men for there courage to compete and the results that they accomplished. I would like to congratulate all champions – placers – qualifiers of the high school state wrestling tournaments. The athletes have sorted out who was better on that particular weekend.

I would be more interested in knowing the accuracy of the rankings in each class compared to the final results. So much time has been spent discussing and ranking of the wrestlers lets find out how close the rankings were to the final results.

I would like to give thanks to the adults that consistently post positive intelligent comments to this forum (as I stated in the past). These adults’ time and dedication is a piece of what makes Kansas wrestling so awesome. These same people also give me something to read everyday about the sport we all love. A few adults to give a season’s ending thanks for there post from me would be – Disney, Chief, Cokeley, Beeson, Randy & Richard. I’m sure I forgot many others; these are the ones that are in my mind right now.

I do wish Richard would alter his auto signature. Richard does post some great information but to somebody who doesn’t know him the statement makes him look very ugly (not in a physical way).

I'm still bewildered at the fact that people don't consider Graham an outstanding wrestler... come-on? 4x state champ. by the way, there is no doubt that Graham would place in the top 3 at any of the other classes (if not first) - a known/proven fact, Graham knows how to win when it counts and has always done so!!

I'll think we'll (at least its started that way) come to see that quality in Cokeley (avenging several losses during the season and winning when it counts)

IN RESPONSE TO BIG DAWG I WROTE:




I need to go on record to clarify a couple of things. Apparently there is some rumor that there is a "rift" between the Cokeleys and Slyters. ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE! Only Sharky, Mark, and Clint were more disappointed that Sharky was upset in the semis than Ryne and I. Did Ryne want to wrestle Sharky because he thought he would beat him? NO! He wanted Sharky to be in the finals because both of them have worked hard to get to the top. The key reason that I stated "Ryne is up to Sharky" is Mark Slyter. He has worked many, many hours with Ryne. He has driven Ryne to tournaments that I couldn't go to and coached him just like he was his own son. Is it tough when they wrestle each other? ABSOLUTELY! Every dad wants his son to win but when you have worked hard to help another kid they sort of become a second son to you. Sharky is THE BEST wrestler on his feet in the state, NO ARGUMENT! Sharky and Ryne have battled and Sharky owns the advantage. There is no rift and these two wrestlers will continue to work together to get better. Hopefully Ryne has grown enough that they will not be battling each other for the top spot ever again.

I whole-heartedly agree with Disney as there really is no need to determine who is the best. One can always speculate in their mind as to whom is the best overall in the state for that year and particular weight but it is merely that-speculation as KSHSAA has it set up that there are 4 classes and thus 4 CHAMPIONS !

We as fans and really on a selfish level or at the very least for curiosity sake would like to have that determined and I have seen on here people post about consolidating the classes and being compared to California or other States where there is one true champion and All schools regardless of size/class eventually meet up. Here in Kansas, as far as wrestling goes-many of the smaller schools WOULD measure up and be able to go toe to toe with the big schools and we have several small school wrestlers that are likely the best in the state each and every year <but again speculation>. But on the other hand, it would handicap many schools that dont have the resources of the big schools and in sports such as football and basketball, the larger schools would win out more often as simply they draw from a bigger talent pool=strength in numbers... but us wrestlers are a different breed and I think it it is tremendous that western Kansas kids from areas such as Oakley, Stockton, Norton, Ulysses, Phillipsburg, Clay Center etc are capable of being mentioned as the best. Can we say tough as nails rural kansas farm boys?

But, we must be careful of what we wish for. Why, you ask. Because it simply is about the kids and really it is better to have 4 champions. This is the case(separate class champions) in say 1A Boys Basketball, 2A Girls 300 Meter Hurdles, 3A Softball, 4A Football. Why because we are selfish and want to see for our self who is the very best in wrestling, have only 1 champion and a total of 6 placers <rather than 4X6> take away from 18 other state placers in each weight. These kids that put in the work can all say for the rest of their lives that they are a state placer and will walk away from this great sport with a well deserved reward for their work that as stated above would be the case in other sports so why take it away from them and push KSHSAA to determine only 1 true champ and 6 placers in WRESTLING. I was at first envious when Kansas went to 6 places rather than 4 as was the case when I was in HS but as I grew up and thought about it--I thought you know what ? that this is what is best for the kids and that is what we all want . >>>>> RIGHT ?

The Chief, it appears, was exactly correct on nine of his 84 projections from the first of the season (I only reviewed the top 6 from both polls.) Additionally he project 39 wrestlers to be in the top 6 who finished in the top 6. Some of them were in different weight classes but I gave him credit for those. 160 ended up being the most difficult as he only projected one wrestler to finish in the top six that actually finished in the top 6. 48/84... Good job Chief!

Using the Chiefs final all class ranking of 114 kids

59% of the ranked 114 kids came from 5A and 6A or 64 schools

41% of the ranked 114 kids came from 1A,2A,3A, & 4A Schools
I think there are at least 128 schools - I did not count all the 1,2,3A schools that have wrestling - I think there are 64 in 4A - just an observation.

11 of the 14 - number 1 ranked kids were from 5A or 6A.
22 of the 28 - number 1 & 2 ranked kids were from 5A or 6A

If 5A and 6A classes were combined it would be one fun state tournament to watch. Based on these numbers I would not say
5A and 6A are weak - they just do not have as many schools.

I had heard that Chase Locke will be Maize's incoming 103. I would expect Shavlik at 135.

I don't know his grade, weight or intended HS, but Brady Heincker was the State Champion at 14/100 for Derby Kids club and he beat Chase Locke in the finals.

Windham will be a senior next year and will likely be 112, possibly 103 again. A tough and great kid, but again, a senior next year, not a sophomore.

Also Brady Heincker is a long time Derby kid, the only question for him will be weight, and if during kids club a Derby Panther or a Panther Elite. I suspect that he will be with the Panther Elite next year, but that is hard to say.

A logical case could be made with either one. This one boiled down to some narrow criteria. Summer participation and success, one wrestler moving up a weight and the other staying at 135 and running through the match in my head. That last reason is the tipping point. Big stage experience has given CJ an above average ability to either preserve leads or capitalize on mistakes. Having said that, nobody including myself would be surprised if Kendric came out on top. My rankings have changed as of now due to one of those wrestlers starting at a higher weight to begin the season.

Nathan? I realized recently that my HS diploma wasn't legit due to misisng a few hours. My college stated they would have to withdraw my diploma unless I finished my HS degree. I realized that I could take some online courses. and wrestle for the school. While I will be giving up a little weight, I am making a run for it.


Of course on all of this I am just having fun, although I did see an open tournament a few years ago with some dude in his 40's taking on a HS kid. Talk about the kid being given a lesson or two it was fun to watch.

The exemption from the age rule (extended to 45) that USAW gave you will help! We will make sure to have the Medics at matside!

Yep, I'm ready for all comers, have to get this agression out. I was doing pretty well against the high school heavies last year, I know my ranking should be top 10, and moving up. I challenge all older adults to check their high school diplomas, reenroll if need be, take up the challenge. Show some of these young bucks at their respective weights what age and maturity mean.

On a side bar, I have requested that USAWKS and the KSHAA establish a new rule, for those over 45, we go 1 - 30 second - 30 second periods and forgo the overtime rule.

The only problem I see from the influx of us Dad's would be the logjam in the 285 class. I would also encourage everyone to review your health insurance deductibles.

I am working hard to make 215. I think I can make it before the cert date.

Don't know, can I get down 35 pounds prior to the cert date? If so I may be able to get there. As to the insurance thing, thankfully we have USA Insurance with our coaches cards, oh wait a second, I need to renew my membership. I say, an old mans bracket, then the state HS champion has to take on the old mans champion. I got Coach Ed, Eric Akin, and Will Cokeley on my team. If Roberson or Bunch want to wrestle off for the spot I'll take one of them.

I have lost 35 pounds since July 1st by the way. My plan is to get to 175 by the end of January. For those of you that know me, I am a "heavy dude". My high was 257(7 pounds over an eighth of a ton) and now I am 222. 47 pounds to go!

http://www.fitday.com is a great link for those charting their weight loss, just started on site this morning and logging everything now. I think there are more than a few of us who could afford to lose a few pounds. Of course in order to get ranked like we want to we adults would have to learn about and practice appropriate diet, work out and the whole bit again.

what happened too 10 and 11 at 112??

Some weights go as deep as 13 and one weight only goes 7 deep. As soon as it gets to Honorable mention wrestlers, the ranking cuts off. Some weights are stronger than others. Just like last year.

Thanks to all that gave input on estimating their weights and rosters! Many coaches, parents and wrestlers helped make the ranking more accurate. This will also prompt many revisions from those that have not responded. As the season gets closer, I will revise the rankings as information comes in. All in all, it's been a great time hearing from the Kansas wrestling community! These last two months are always the toughest.
