Has a girl ever placed at a State Tourney

Just wondering if a girl has ever placed in the state tourney in any class. I remember one qualified several years ago at the 321A level. Lakin has a girl that is very good and I beleive is just a sophmore. Not sure if she can get it done this year but if she can stay at 103 lbs the next couple of years she might have a chance?

In Missouri a couple years ago a girl named Randi Beltz placed at 103. I don't remember what class but I believe it was in Class One.

I'm pretty sure I read in Sports Illust a few years back, in the section, "Faces in the Crowd" about a girl STATE CHAMP.

She wrestled at nationals back in PA. She didn't win a match, but she wasn't bad.

My daughter wrestles 103 for Lakin, she's a sophmore, Samantha Gonzales. She has placed at several National Tournaments in the boys division. Placed at a few Girls National tournaments and has also taken Girls State at her weight division several times. She has a good chance of making it to High School state if she doesn't have a big oops.

I seem to remember a girl from Santa Fe Trail a few years back that at least qualified. I'm not sure if she placed or not. I remember her because she wrestled at the Osawatomie tournament. She was very good.

Brooke Bogren I think is who you are talking about OzMom. If I'm not mistaken, she went on to wrestle in college somewhere.

What about cheryl meyer around 8-10 years ago? Did she ever place?

There also was a girl from Marion that qualified for two years. Chelsea Arnold I think.

Brooke was a two-time National Champ wrestling for Missouri Valley!

Cheryl Meyer from Sabetha wrestled internationally and if I recall, won a tournament in France! (she repeatedly kicked the dog out of my stepson until he happened to have a hair-raising experience)

Samantha took 3rd place she is headed to state! Way to go Sammie you made us proud!

Cheryl was super tough in kids and into junior high but once high school came around the natural process caught up. She was around .500 and am pretty sure she didnt end up wrestling all 4 years. But during her early days she pounded several eventual state champs and medalists. Was wild to watch her blow through double legs while getting her head ripped with a crossface. I am a major opponent of girls wrestling boys, thinks its great that they can have the girl versus girl competition. But after 30 plus years of competing and coaching will never think it is positive for the sport to have coed competing..

The girl who won state up in Alaska was pretty good. It ran in the family. She had older brothers who had won multiple state championships if I remember correctly.

Michaela Hutchison 103 lbs. State Champion 2006 Anchorage, Alaska. She ended the season with a record of 45-4 33 pins.

This is roughly what I know for this year. There are a some more girls who are going into state but I don't have their info.

2008 - 103-pound class, Montville's Jessica Bennett placed fifth to become the first girl to medal at a Class S championship in Connecticut.

2008 – Olympic’s Camie Yeik placed sixth at 103 pounds at the 3A Class in Tacoma, Washington.

2008 – Orem Utah’s Uintah junior Candace Workman placed 2nd at Class 3A state.

2008 – Omaha, NB Omaha North’s Britney Taylor placed 5th at Class A 103 lbs.

2008 – Lakin, KS Samantha Gonzales placed third at regionals. Will compete at state this weekend at 321A at 103 with a record of 24-9

2008 – Goldsboro, NC Rosewood’s 103lbs Olivia Neal goes into state as Conf. Champion with a record of 36-5. Will compete at state this week.

2008 – Woodward, OK Senior Joey Miller qualified for state with a 21-6 record in 4A at 119. Placed second to 2-time State Champion. Will compete this week at state. And I believe Hannah Martin qualified for state at 103.

Some of the larger states have gone to seperate High School Division for girls.

dont know who she is but I got to see a girl in topeka this weekend from I heard Junction City. Wait until she gets into highschool. She has bigger shoulders than most boys her age. I watched her work inside and throw a number of boys to their backs this weekend. do not want my son wrestling that one.

That would be Morgan Otteson or Krista Revelle. Probably Krista if she was throwing boys around! They will both be freshman next year. I could be wrong, let me know.

That was probably Krista from Jackson County Wrestling Club. She suffered an injury that took her out of a match and to the hospital. Her dad came back to the tourn. later and said she was ok and with rest this week she could wrestle next weekend. She does get the crowd into it when shes on the mat.

Not sure if i missed this already but I think the 1st girl in the state of Kansas to make state was Brooke Bogren of Santa Fe Trail. She was until recently still competing at a Fairly high level. Injuries and time have forced her to stop competing. Great young lady on and off the Mat.

Gonzales just won her 1st round con. match by pinfall to advance.

She made the first page of the Hays paper today! Way to go Sammie! Good Luck Tomorrow!

Coaches all over the area are trying to get their best wrestlers to date Krista hoping for a set of awsome future wrestlers.

Sammie got beat out in her 2nd con match. But, she took 1st at Girls State in McPherson on the 23rd. Way to go Samantha!

Krista is an awsome wrestler. Saw her at girls state in macpherson this weekend. she seems well recovered from her injury and appeared to be concentrating strongly on her technique. what a great wrestler and friend to my own daughter who also took first this sunday. great tournament!!!!!

My daughter who is 8 years old watched Samantha at Panther Classic in Phillipsburg and we were so excited to see that she went to Sate!!! We want to know if Samantha will be wrestling kids wrestling now and if she will be at the Phillipsburg tournament coming up??
