Re: 4a regional (Desoto - 02/14/10 03:14 PM

Most of these teams are Frontier League schools. Saturday, Gardner got 1st place and they won't be there (Yay!) Eudora got 2nd and Louisburg third. Those two team should well enough to get a few to state each.

Re: 4a regional (Desoto - 02/16/10 06:00 PM

Lots of love for Eudora in these predictions. I'm sure they'd love to send 9 to state! Do you really think their 285 will win - he wrestles about 80 lbs light.
Posted By: Quagmire

Re: 4a regional (Desoto - 02/16/10 06:48 PM

Like it was posted before, a lot of these teams are from the Frontier league and Eudora's 285 won it so I don't see why he can't win this regional. It would make it much eaiser if I knew how everyone would get seeded and so on. Most of these predictions are made by what had happened last week at the league tournaments (mainly the Frontier and Kaw Valley league tournaments.) As for the teams that do not have a league or whose league results are not posted I went off of how they do individually and as a team. However, in this sport anything is possible.

Quagmire - thanks for taking the time to put up predictions. SJA not having a league tournament makes it harder. I think you did a great job. We'll see what the weekend brings -

Smokey Cabin is working with Pollum on some new and "never seen" moves that he will be revealing at regionals. (that is if Smokey can quit eating long enough to work out)

Re: 4a regional (Desoto - 02/16/10 07:52 PM

Yes I agree it would make things much easier if SJA was in a league. I went strictly off what they were ranked and how they placed at previous tournaments. It would be nice to see SJA in the Frontier league or maybe the EKL.

Re: 4a regional (Desoto - 02/16/10 07:57 PM

Gardner Edgerton is leaving the Frontier League this year - I don't know if they are replacing them with anyone. SJA makes some sense since the Frontier teams see them for wrestling, basketball and a few other sports, but I don't know what the ADs have decided.

Agreed replacing Gardner with Saint James makes the most sense.

Not unless they add points for weekday duals. It sucks to burn up a competition point for one match. A match where the best guys usually don't wrestle each other because of lineup jockeying.

If I am not careful I may swallow a couple of vielhauers or cokeleys.

Then just take the kids who have enough points and want to get more matches in. Emporia sends their varsity to the Centennial League and then their JV to the Chase County league tournament. Saint James could just take their JV kids to the league tournament.

A quick review of the KSHSAA web site reveals only 15 teams listed in each regional. That must mean that only 60 of 64 schools in 4A have wrestling?

Re: 4a regional (Desoto - 02/17/10 02:51 PM

Yea, Will, we have had only 15 in our Regional several times.

They would go their own way at regionals which I believe would be a 3-2-1A regional.

They are a 4A school how could they go to the 321A Regional?

Better yet one of the following two things has happened
1. The State messed up and forgot to list them at the Regional
2. When they cooped with Andale no kids decided to Wrestle meaning they would not have a team.

Re: 4a regional (Desoto - 02/17/10 07:45 PM

Haven did not end up co-oping with Andale this year.

So they found a coach and had a program?
Posted By: doug747

Re: 4a regional (Desoto - 02/18/10 02:36 AM

I don't think they had a program this year. I am not 100% sure, but think they only had about 4 kids wanting to wrestle, and the Haven BOE wouldn't fund the transportation to and from practice. Maybe someone else knows for sure.
Posted By: sportsfan02

Re: 4a regional (Desoto - 02/18/10 10:58 AM

Thanks, to my knowledge that is the first program we've lost in awhile in the state. I hope we can say the same at this time next year.

Re: 4a regional (Desoto - 02/20/10 06:30 AM

Notes and observations from the De Soto regional:

SJA's tough scheduling appears to be paying off as they are in tight contention with Eudora for a regional plaque.

Cokeley v. Weller should be a dandy of a finals match at 145.

Feist of SJA must have ripped two-dozen phonebooks in half to get in shape for regionals. He comes into the finals with an 11-12 record, likely because he's had to wrestle the best of the best. One thing is for sure he is on a tear with three straight pins in the 171 bracket.
