4a 189lbs is stacked who will win? - 02/19/02 12:38 AM

Justin Browning is undefeated so far and beat out Abell at regionals who sat most of the season due to a shoulder injury from football. But on the other hand theres Jacob Strait from Concordia who pinned Browning in the state finals last year, we also have Matt Rikenbaugh who is looking very strong along with Chris Glenn who was putting it on Strait at Basehor..... I cant wait till Saturday at 8......

No disrespect to the defending champ Strait but after looking at the brackets I am picking Browning and Abell. How did the match at regionals go?

Well I did not see the match with Browning and Abell but I know he won 5-3 or 5-2. But I did see Strait and Glenn wrestle, Glenn clearly over powered Strait the whole match scored 2 take downs to none on Strait. Strait had an escape in the 2nd period and got a stalling called on Glenn in the 2nd as well. But with 1 minute in the 3rd Glenn got off balance while riding and got flipped to a pin. The match was his. who will take state?? will there be an upset?

hin Abell has a good chance at making it to the finals considering his shoulder is still messed up. he has to have surgery on it. abel wrestled well against Browning. I think if Abell was in full health he would have beaten Browning. Bornwing is a great wreslter.

I say that Glenn from B-Ward will take it, he was working Strait over until he got cocky and slipped up, but he will be focused and ready come this weekend. He is a beast!

I haven't got a chance to see Jacob wrestle this year but he has come along way since two years ago when I wrestled him. As far as Donnie Abell goes I hope that he has a good tournament, beleive me I know what its like to have a hurt shoulder (thanks Jacob) And I would hate to see him lose becuase of that. Anyway good luck to all the 189'ers

Yeah you are right Browning is a good wrestler but he and Strait are on the same side of the bracket, then theere is Glenn and Abell on the other side, when I saw Chris Glenn wrestle Strait Strait took about 7 shots at the most and completed none, Glenn took 1 and scored this guy just came from no where. In my opinion he is going to take it he came back from bad refing and put Aaron Rinehart from Perry on his back at the end of the third to win it.. Have you seen that guy? hes an animal. I am going with Chris Glenn. He has what it takes.

We can't be counting our chips yet for the state finals. Abell will have to hope his shoulder is at full stregthen for when he wrestles Thorenson from Marysville then if he prevails there, it's onto Rinkenbaugh from August who has looked good in my mind all year long. So Abell will have two tough matches to get to the Semi's. I think Abell can do it but he's got a tough road. Good luck to all.

This is a very good topic, if I were to pick the finalist I would say Strait and Glenn. These are the best in the state to me, lets not over rate Abell who quit in a match last year at state because he was losing, and Browning has not had alot of competition all year. When Chris Glenn almost upset the whole 200 deep crowd for Concordia at Basehor then I knew from then on he was state champion material.

May I remind you that Steve Hambleton from Labette almost beat browning actually he should have. If he shows up he has a shot at state.

May I remind you that Hambleton lost to Browning, and he did not win a single match last year at state. But he is a good wrestler and I will give him props, hes also on the stronger side of the bracket as well.

Your right he is on the tough side of the bracket but your gonna have to beat a number 1 seed somewhere to get to the finals . Why not early?he wants another shot at browning, i wouldn't be surprised if he wins.

Re: 4a 189lbs is stacked who will win? - 02/20/02 02:56 AM

ok. Hambleton has Delimont first round who he will beat, then Browning and if he wins that he has strait. That side is stacked, on the other side I see Rikenbaugh beating Abell second round, Glenn beating Franco second round then Glenn beating Rikenbaugh and boom round two from Basehor regional with Glenn and Strait.. This is to me the toughest weight class at state without a doubt.

Re: 4a 189lbs is stacked who will win? - 02/20/02 03:08 AM

I would have to agree with you on that one. I have wrestled Delimont this year and not to take anything from him but Hambilton will be tough. Browning and Hambilton will be a great match to watch also, but I see Browning coming out on top of that one. On the other side I see Abell with the toughest road ahead of him. Thoreson, Rinkenbaugh, then Glenn, then on to the finals. Abell is a great wrestler and he is one of few in the bracket that could wrestle all these matches and win. I see Rinkenbaugh losing to the winner of Abell and Thoreson. I see Glenn making it to the semi-finals, I won't say he will make it to the finals but I will not say that he won't. He will be tough to beat. I would know this b/c I have wrestled him this year and he is a beast. I am also looking forward to the so called "ROUND 2"

I am going to give my honest oppinion, I thought that Jacob Strait was going to be just dominating from Leauge all the way to state. But now that I have seen him and that ward guy wrestle I am not so sure, I see either Browning and Glenn or Strait and Glenn. Chris Glenn from ward just came from no where and was kicking the crap out of Strait in the finals at basehor, and you cant say he was having a bad day because he killed mill valley 13-0 the match before. Who thinks diff about who the state champ will be??

My guess is Mike Ditka in a close match, winning by fall with 1:58 left in the first period.

I think it is going to be an all out brawl with these guys come state. Alot of seniors in the bracket and they are going to be determined to go out with a bang, I wish the best of luck to all the qualifiers.
