Dreiling upset - 02/21/05 03:36 AM
IF your're wondering where what happened to dreiling from scott city, he was ahead of Hershey from hugoton and hershey threw a head lock and pinned dreiling in the 3rd. The whole gym was talkin after that one. Pretty exciting.
Probably the biggest upset of the weekend all classes, #1 ranked kid all year long gets beat at Regionals and doesn't qualify....any other stories like this one?

WHat i can't believe is that andale's 130 won the dang tourney. His teamates were sayin that he hasn't won all year. I guess he must have ate a couple boxes of wheaties that morning.
Not to take anything away from him but I didn't wrestle very good that match, the one match I wasn't as focused for and it cost me, but he won the match and now it's up to me to prove myself at state

Yeah i could see what u mean there. If he hasn't been on top all year i don't think he'll be able to stay there. I don't know if this is his first time to go to state but if it is, it might freak him out somewhat and he'll lose what he had at regionals, or it could fuel him. Hard telling how some will react to the pressure.

A HUGE upset in the Beloit regional at 189 was Kirk Palmer - a freshman from Smith Center - pinning Erik Larsen of Lincoln in the first period in the semis. Palmer went on to take 2nd.
Not taking away from his accomplishment as a Freshman, but Stroot a kid barely over .500 knocking off a #1 ranked wrestler that's been there all year long being beaten twice in a row, then being caught in a headlock, but who knows...must have just been an off day or who knows what else....

Alex,
How could you NOT BE FOCUSED in a regional final?
Never being there and being a little distracted by just being there....I wasn't mentally ready and made some bad choices in the match, but this isn't the NFL and I don't get a replay option so I must prove myself at state instead

Re: Dreiling upset - 02/21/05 04:43 AM
spencer burns gettin pinned was the greatest upset
Nope I think Logan getting beat was a bigger upset than spencer

Alex,
I must agree with RedStorm how could you not be focused at regionals and i think you just got out wrestled.
How many #1 ranked wrestlers didn't make it to the state tournament?

Re: Dreiling upset - 02/21/05 04:52 AM
Alex knows I'm just playin'
I know Mr.DeWitt and he was just kidding with me, and I did get out wrestled, I'm not taking anything away from Stroot, but I know I didn't wrestle my best
Alex
Although Logan may have been ranked #1 doesn't mean he should have been. I have seen him wrestle on many occasions and was not really impressed with him this year at all. Didn't he have like 7 losses going into regionals. He beat my teammate 4-0 in the first or second round of regionals and Matt had a losing record. That's not the greatest accomplishment.
Congrats this weekend Andrew on the Championship and also on getting ratted out by the teammates for setting off the fire alarm, that in itself is something to be proud of
That also is his style Andrew, he gets ahead early and likes to try and coast his way to the end, which he did with me in our match at Norton, but the saying rankings don't mean anything is true, it's nothing more than a number beside your name

Re: Dreiling upset - 02/21/05 05:10 AM
130 has been wide open all year long and Dreiling was the only wrestler that brought a previous state placing to the table. Riffel, I believe, placed as a sophomore as was not eligible until semester of this year.
Burns by far was the biggest upset he was 32-0. i might also say (not to take anything at all away from Miller) that i saw burns hurling right before his 3rd place match
Mr. Dewitt how dare you not rank me....I wish you to break a leg at state now
...I don't blame ya, You have a job I wouldn't want....plus I'm out to prove myself ranking or not
I agree about 130 being wide open all year long, but Riffel appears to be the clear cut favorite now and will probably win it

At Beoilt in 189 the Smith Center Freshman beat Larsen from Lincoln. That was an upset. Props to both wrestlers larsen then had to wrestler to get to state and after losing in the Semis the semi consulation round is tough. Not sure why but it is

Don't get hung up on Stroot's record at 130. Look at Andale's schedule and you will see how a 12-10 record could be misleading. I could tell from the first round that he was a pretty good wrestler. Dreiling had only beat him 1-0 earlier this year.
Those rotten weasels. I was merely guiding my team through a routine "detour" jog and I stumbled upon a dark, nearly pitch-black hallway. That hallway came to an abrupt ending in which I ran into a door and "accidentally" set off the fire alarm. My friend and fellow teammate says sorry about the stocking cap Alex. It wouldn't have fit him anyways.
It's all good, I hold nothig against Matt, and I don't think Kale would either, it's natural instinct that when you see something laying there you want it, god knows we've done it our fair share of times
, and Kale has a small head so it probably wouldn't have fit anyone, and when they asked for it back they were just having fun and not being mean, but "a pitch black hallway" riiiiiiiiiggghhhht
it's all good see ya at State
Alex
p.s. did you see Ron Burgundy there? He introduced himself to me.....I'm special
Haha, I did not get the chance to meet Ron Burgandy although I did get to meet some other forum contenders as well as a drunk guy. The drunk guy congratulated me on my win in the finals and then began to punch me in the chest...wtf? I think I wrestled and beat his son in a previous match and he was taking out his aggressions. It's all good though, I want to beat me up sometimes too so I know how he must feel.
That hallway was defineatly dark Alex. Did we intrude on your guy's team meeting when we jogged in and out of the locker room. Who called us fags? That wasn't nice.
I didn't meet Ron Burgandy he walked up to me and introduced himself after I qualified for state, I had defeated one of his wrestlers along the way so he knew who I was, and shook my hand and said Bronco Wrestler....Ron Burgandy...Nice job on making the finals and state, And don't tell anyone who I am (which I will take to my grave) and that was it besides the usual talking about teh tournament and stuff for the 3 or 4 minutes I talked to him. I also seen the drunk guy walking around, he sat by the doorway and cheered for everyone which was kinda cool, interesting to say the least, I also had the privilege of being introduced to Mike Farleigh by himeself as well, I didn't know everyone knew me.....Maybe I should run for Forum President? Wanna be my VP?
No you didn't intrude on us in there, we were just changing and screwing around since we had about 1.5 hours to get ready for the Finals so we were just relaxing and having some fun. We thought it was kinda funny when you guys did it because we've done the same thing you guys were doing but we did it in practice one day. The guy who called you fags was probably Goodland, they called Me,David, & Kale (The one who's hat was MIA
) douche bags, I'm sorry I'm not Goodland, and I'm sorry I have such great looking blonde hair but he didn't have to be so jealous of it
I believe it was the 189lbs.er from Goodland doing the trash talking...but oh well it's over, where are you guys staying in Wichita?

Andrew.. i would like to say good job on the win this weekend. i did enjoy the warm up that you guys did. That was great. And the fire alarm, im sure it was an accident. what kind of person would put an alarm on a door..... good job on the wins this weekend..
David
Ulysses112-
You cannot go blaming Buhler for stealing them, I'm not saying that taking them was right but don't leave stuff laying around and it won't happen, Take care of your stuff and you won't lose anything. I found it kinda amusing Gossett that you did pull the alarm, It made for some funny times and enjoyable all the same. Good luck at state and perhaps we can do it again

Bronco Wrestler: In exchange for not revealing my identity, I won't tell anybody about your secret takedown. You hit it on a guy twice in one match. The coach and I looked at each other after the first one and said, "What the H#LL was that??!!" Then you kindly hit it again in the next period so we could see how it was done. Good luck in Wichita. I'll be off to 321A in Hays for the 23rd consecutive year. Man, I'm getting old!!
Thanks Ron-
My secret takedown? I almost caught myself twice with the same move, I hit it on the wrong side but I got the points so I was happy with them. If you want maybe next year when I'm in college I'll stop by and give ya a personal demonstration, or at sub-districts?.... 23 years of going to Hays that's quite a record, better not break it
but I'll be sure to say hello when I am there Coaching
Alex
p.s. It's a really basic move that works well, I've scored probably 1/2 my takedowns with it...Chas Thompson showed it to me last year and I live by it now...most kids don't even know it's coming

Re: Dreiling upset - 02/22/05 03:58 AM
yeah i know i shouldn't have left em but it was cause my coach made me go take a pic for who was goin to state. i'm not complainin, i just wanted to know who holds the prized shorts now and to tell them to take care of em. haha it'd really not a big deal.
I have a nice pair of white shorts myself, if anyone sees them and likes them they can check out WalMart for $10 a pair, not mine....they're lucky
