Where was Taplin at this weekend?

Re: B.I.T. results - 02/01/04 04:25 AM

Taplin was fighting an illness. And was not at his full capability to wrestle at his best, is what I heard. Not that it would have mattered but I sure would have like to see him and Derick Lang go at it who really looked GREAT against Strawn beating him 3-2 i believe. And getting in on 3-4 great shots and elevating them up but was uncapable of finishing them. GET WELL ROSS. And congradulations Derick on a great tournament.

Coach Harris,

Sounded like a great tournament but you've got to answer this question for the wrestling commmunity (or at least for me) How did you admisiter points team wise (how much was advancement and place points) I ask this, because I don't ever recall seeing so many teams score over 200, or even over a hundred for that matter at 1 tournament.

Re: B.I.T. results - 02/01/04 06:39 PM

Team Scoring:

MATCH POINTS:
Win by Fall / Forfeit = 4.5 points
Win by Technical Fall = 4 points
Win by Major Decision = 3.5 points
Win by Decision = 3 points
Loss by Decision = 1 point
Loss by Major Decision = .5 points

(this rewards wrestlers for not getting beat by fall/tech. fall, it also rewards teams for bringing full lineups)

PLACE POINTS:
1st=16 pts
2nd=12 pts
3rd=9 pts
4th=7 pts
5th=5 pts
6th=3 pts

A reason for high number of team points is that with the pool format, each wrestler is getting five matches and thus scoring more points.

There are no advancement points b/c we don't use brackets, we use pools instead.

Hope this helps.

I like this format for many reasons, mainly the guaranteed five matches. In bracket tournaments, the less experienced kids often go 0-2 or 1-2 and sit in the bleachers all day, when what they most need is competition to develop their skills. In our format, we get that exciting finals match at the end of the day that everyone likes to see and that those kids need. And the less experienced kids are still wrestling at the end of the day (for 9th, 7th, or 5th place) instead of sitting around eating nachos (well, some are probably still doing that too).

We try to start finals around 4:00, we take very little break time.
