One other thing, don't get families involved in a decision made by an official. The Wetta's have always been in good standing with people from DC. All the decision means is that the west regional is sending one less wrestler to the state tourney

All it means is that no-knee pads hasn't passed fist grade grammer. DUDE...turn OFF caps lock (idiot, gosh)

Re: BARBER 112 LB DISQUALIFIED - 02/21/05 03:31 AM

Well it doesn't surprise me that barber was DQ'd cause I wrestled him 3 times this year and he is a very dirty wrestler. I could easily see him hitting someone cause he hit me at liberal this year but got away with it. maybe he'll learn how to wrestle now that he got put out. And if anyone can understand what's goin on in that huge paragraph or sentence thing, retype it so normal people can read it.

Re: BARBER 112 LB DISQUALIFIED - 02/21/05 11:40 AM

I've also wrestled jesse a couple times and I couldn't see him hitting somebody. Especially in regionals after he'd already made it to state.

Re: BARBER 112 LB DISQUALIFIED - 02/21/05 01:31 PM

The ref was Martinez and I don't usually stick up for Martinez but he was doing a pretty good job saturday. I was sitting at the table when Martinez came over and said "2 team points taken away for unsportsmanlike conduct, take away all advancement points by this wrestler, and wrestler will not go to state!!! Other table worker said what did he do, and Martinez said he swung at NW kid and cut his lip. I didn't see it happen because I was watching the matt I was working so asked another table worker was it really that bad and his reply was well he swung at him and it should have been at least a team point but I wouldn't have kicked him out of state. Now I have seen alot of swings between opponents over the years and almost always a ref will stop the match and tell both wrestlers clean it up and they should. This is purely a judgement call on the ref's behalf, he was like 12 inches away from the action and I don't beleive Martinez enjoys throwing Sr's or any other wrestler out of state.

Re: BARBER 112 LB DISQUALIFIED - 02/21/05 04:05 PM

I have seen official that were inches away from the action let shoulders be torn from their sockets, knees be dislocated, etc. etc.. it is a shame that the infraction happened, I see guys hammer the crossface all match long quite frequently, head butting, etc. and nothing happens, if the move was a hard crossface it would be hard to juustify, if just an out and out roundhouse punch then pitch the aggressor. I remember a guy from clearwater several years back that went into state with an undefeated record and got upset, punched the opponent when the official raised his hand, resulting melee involved coach, official, and was quite a display, all advancement points were subtracted and wrestler was ejected, team still won the state title, so the penalty really didn't make much difference. I can't remember if the coach was penalized as well, or not, but it sure was quite the deal, about the weirdest thing I ever remember seeing happen at the state tourney!

Re: BARBER 112 LB DISQUALIFIED - 02/21/05 04:11 PM

Taking a punch at someone is a flagrant misconduct no matter what the circumstances behind it were, if he did indeed take a swing then he was right to be disqualified.

I know this is besides the point, but i would like to put my word in to defend Jesse Barber. Trenton Gray, you have wrestled jesse 3 times this year and each time havnt you lost. I dont mean any disrespect, but my opinion on what you said about Jesse is wrong. There are many agresive wrestlers out there, and jesse is one of them. I should know, I wrestle with him everyday during practice, and before you start wondering who i am my name is Patrick Whisennand. He wrestles to win. He isnt out there trying to slip a cheap shot in. I think you are just upset that he beat you, that is what I think. Other People might belive differently but I dont. Jesse is a strong and competitive wrestler and I would appreciate it if you would keep your opinion about how he wrestles to yourself. He might put some juice behind his cross face, yet it always stays legal. And about him hiding so the ref can't see him. If he cross-faced you it would be in plain day light. Suck it up, thats why wrestling insnt for babys. Good job on you season. I would also appreciate it if no knee pads whould keep his opinion to his\her self. You dont make this any better.

I have watched Jesse for alot of years.I know him personly and I will be the first one to admit that Jesse does have a little bit of a temper. But I also know that wouldnt punch some one on the mat. He was bitten at Garden City this year and if any time he would have hit someone it would have been then and didn't.
Jesse is a very aggesive wrestler and goes harder than most all the time. I feel bad for him and his family. It will be a shame not to see him go to state.
I will end this post by thinking on a good note.I feel sorry for who ever has to meet him next year. The young man will carry this over to next year and train twice as hard to prove a point. That he was ment to go to state and will!!!
Best of luck Jesse!!!!!

Re: BARBER 112 LB DISQUALIFIED - 02/23/05 04:02 PM

IT WAS NOT A SWING OR A PUNCH DISQUALIFED WRESTLER'S HAND WAS NEVER IN A FIST IT WAS WIDE OPEN. ALSO KID WHO PROTESTED THE CROSS FACE NEVER HAD A CUT ON HIS LIP OR A SCRATCH ON HIS FACE, HE MUST OF BIT HIS LIP, TONGUE OR WHATEVER WAS BLEEDING HIS SELF. MAYBE ON PURPOSE, MAYBE NOT.AND I GUESS THAT IT DOES MEAN THERE IS JUST ONE LESS WRESTLER GOING TO STATE. AND YES HE IS ONLY A FRESHMAN, HE HAS WORKED HARD FOR A CHANCE TO GO TO STATE,AND HE HAS NEVER EVER THROWN A PUNCH OR SWUNG AT ANY OF HIS OPPONENT'S, HE SHOULD OF JUST LAID ON THE MAT. HE WAS GOING TO STATE 3RD OR 4TH WIN OR LOSE. but,LIFE ISN'T ALWAYS FAIR. Good Luck to all the wreslter's and the officials at state.

Jesse Barber has always had a bad temper in wrestling and so has his mom...Everytime I see Jesse wrestle and when he loses he gets pissed off everytime and throws his head gear.. A couple of times I seen him hit the other kid... Talk about bad Sportsmanship

HE THROW HIS HEAD GEAR FOUR YEARS AGO. IT'S MY GUESS YOU HAVE NOT SEEN HIM WRESTLE THE PAST FOUR YEAR. YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN HIM HIT ANOTHER KID BECAUSE HE NEVER HAS. AND FOR HIS MOM I JUST SEE A MOTHER WHO IS A LITTLE NERVOUS AND JESSE HAS VERY GOOD SPORTSMAN SHIP. GOOD LUCK TO YOU

Wow I hear new things everyday. That Is one of them. Jesse lost about 9 10 matches this year, please tell me which match he through his head gear? I would really like to know seeing i have watched everyone and havnt seen him do it. Keep your mouth shut if you dont know what you are talking about.

Last Year in kids, He lost a match to qualify for State and he got mad and threw his Head Gear and Mouthed off too the Refs..And that was at Hays Last Year..

Re: BARBER 112 LB DISQUALIFIED - 02/24/05 01:37 AM

I had one son throw what I felt to be a flagrant crossface. He had been poked in the eye and hooked it hard. The ref did not feel it was flagrant but my son felt horrible after the match. The opposing coach felt it was flagrant and did not want my son wrestling anymore of his kids. My son went and apologized to the kid and his coach,to the ref, to the scorekeepers, to his team-mates and I thought perhaps he would take an ad out in the paper. It isn't in his style or in his character to do that. It was a momentary loss of control from which he has learned. Does he have a label with this other team now? Perhaps. But it is his reputation HE has to set right. I don't know Jesse. But one thing I can express to Jesse is...the only opinion you ever have to worry about is the one you have of yourself.

Re: BARBER 112 LB DISQUALIFIED - 02/24/05 01:38 PM

jesse did not throw his headgear in hays I should know i was his coach. the other kid was the one who started the fight. and if you didnt see the match before that, he was wrestling a kid from goodland ks and were in o.t. jesse had the takedown but ref called it out of bounds. and the other kid ended up winning. three people came and told me that jesse was in bounds, and should have been in the finals. once again he got a bad call on him. so maybe fossil should know whats going on before he opens his mouth

People, let it go. It sucks that he isn't getting to go to State, but there is nothing that can be done now other than for Jesse to start getting ready for next year.

Re: BARBER 112 LB DISQUALIFIED - 02/24/05 03:04 PM

Mr. Wainscott,

You know from the way people talk on here, it sounds like this kid has never gotten a call in his favor, doesn't that sound a little odd to you? Do you really think every referee in this state is out to get this kid?
Posted By: Scooby

Re: BARBER 112 LB DISQUALIFIED - 02/24/05 03:49 PM

Nigel-
I didn't hear anyone say he has never had a call go his way. Don't get defensive yet. I will say that some kids get picked on more then others and officials have their favorites I think. Not saying they are not good officials but saying that some kids don't get the same credit others do.

Re: BARBER 112 LB DISQUALIFIED - 02/24/05 04:12 PM

i did not say every ref was out to get him. i was just trying to say what really happened to my brother in hays. i have coached jesse for almost all of his life. jesse used to be pretty tempramental. but has mostly matured out of it. anyways, i'm done talking and ready for jesse to get back to being a great wrstler like he always has

Re: BARBER 112 LB DISQUALIFIED - 02/24/05 05:15 PM

I really can't speak on the mindset of other officials, but I honestly cannot see how an official could have a "favorite" wrestler. It is far too easy to spot an official who would be making calls for a specific wrestler over and over again.

When I was in high school, our team used to think this one official hated us, because so many calls went for the other team. But then when it came time for State this same official made the same number of calls our way. Later on as a coach and then official I got to know this particular person and see him officate other matches and I found out that he called every match the exact same.

I'm not saying that there isn't a possibility for referees that aren't impartial, but you have to ask yourself, what would these officials really gain from siding against any particular wrestler? The answer is nothing, in fact they could get in serious trouble, and lose any credibility that they might have had. I don't think that would be worth it to most any official you would find in our state.

I would just like to see new and younger officials coming aboard. And that brings one thing to mind does anyone know why Mark Richards was left out of the State selection because really his calls aren't that bad. I just wonder if it has more to do with his selection of officials he sends to different duals.

Mark Richards and Chad Harris, both talented young officials, in an oversight, failed to check the appropriate box on the card returned to KSHSAA.

No politics were involved, just a mistake made by these two individuals.
