Heck...Kern or Strawn at 189 if they are even near that weight now...maybe someone should have contacted them a while ago...heck, get the Joel Marrs who took 3rd in 4a.

Trying to get a 17 year old or an 18 year old graduated senior to commit to this grueling competition is an unbelievably tough feat.

I know that coaches Garcia and Rieck have spent countless hours trying to fill our roster with the best that Kansas has to offer.

Some of these wrestlers that have been mentioned have not wrestled since March! They've had plenty of opportunities to show their interest.

Could we field a "better team?" Perhaps, but we will field a team of men who want to be there and have showed some dedication.

Three wrestlers from Lyons and one from Hoisington come to mind. While only one of these kids placed at state, they are solid to very good wrestlers and would bring something to the table.

Lyons:
Gabe Cline - 3 time state qualifier, very aggressive on his feet and would do well in freestyle but might struggle with greco. Also, he is usually around 200-210 lbs and I don't know that he would be able to cut to 189. Gabe might be interested in one last hoorah before he heads to military service.

Chris Larsen - Wrestled at 103 this year and is a 3 time qualifier and 3 time state placer. He can do either style and would be great in Greco. Chris is also headed to the military but I'm not sure when either of them leave. I haven't spoken to either of them in a few months.

Davis Varette - 189 lb state qualifier and has some freestyle and greco experience.

As for the Hoisington kid:
Luke Keener - I am very impressed with this kids ability, but I heard he was close to 200 lbs if not bigger. A bright future for this sophomore to be.

Also Isn't there a kid from Buhler that would fit the 189 bill. I remember hearing about a young kid that qualified as a freshman in the upper weights.
