Has anyone tried to contact Mark Kolmer of Emporia or possibly Nate Davis of Liberal? I don't know that either has done any freestyle this year. They were both in track. They are both very athletic and they might be possibilities.

Kansas has a bye this round, then Oklahoma and Georgia to follow. It looks like Georgia will be tough. They are beating Oklahoma 37-11.

Are there really no 189 pounders that want to wrestle for the Juniors? I'm trying to reach Joel Marrs, CJ Randall or Darnell Bortz. Anybody else interested?

I suggest looking at last year's 171 guys. This close to competition, I imagine a lot of the 189 pound wrestlers are not close to their wrestling weight. It is too bad about the last minute change. I am sure several of those named would have loved to wrestle if they could have known a little sooner. Not blaming anyone, it just is hard to step in as Klint said with all the other summer commitments.

I believe they expect that Furches will make 112. Alan Callahan was added to help at that weight also.

If you get no positive response from any of these wrestlers, you should definitely try contacting Mark Kolmer. I have no idea if he would be available or not, but he is an excellent all around athlete who could adjust to freestyle well in a short time frame. He took second to Romero last year, he took 2nd at the State javelin in 5A and I believe he has started at Emporia in football since his freshman year. It is very possible that if he wrestles 189 again next year that he would be the No. 1 Kansas 189 ranked wrestler all classes. I think if he wanted to wrestle in college he would be a Division I wrestler. I would at least give him a call to see if he is available.

I have personally talked with 8 wrestlers out of the 171 brackets. Many of them have prior job commitments or have not been on the mat in a long time. I do have a possible yes, that I will hear from within the hour. I know that Mark will be a force the next two years in folkstyle, but doesn't have much FS experience. I will still put the word out to him. Thanks.

The next dual with Oklahoma will tell us a lot about how we'll match up with Georgia. It looks like that last dual will determine the championship bracket.

Missouri is next this morning. I picked up Dereck Heckel in Wichita last night to wrestle 189 for Freestyle. Nate Davis from Liberal will also help at that weight. Without further surprises, it looks like we'll have a full roster tonight for FS.

You can call it a fortunate pool placement if you want, but the bottom line is, the Kansas Juniors gutted it out with 4 and 5 open weights to crack the top 8 and secure another historic medal in Greco!
