I just got home from the hospital. Brent did not sustain any injuries and was taken to the hospital as a precaution. He however was very shaken by the incident. Pete on the other hand, did suffer some very life threatening injuries. His head went through the windshield and his chest smashed into the dashboard causing substantial damage. The doctors had to repair his aorta, an injury that is 90% fatal. The surgery went better than expected, the doctors then began to work on the lacerations on his face. He was being moved to his ICU room about 9:30 this evening. The next 24 to 48 hours will be crucial, and Pete is in for a long hard recovery ahead. Anyone who knows Pete knows he is a fighter and will battle it out. Please keep Pete, Brent and their families in your prayers over the next few days.

Coach,
Thanks for the update. Pete, Brent and their families will be in my prayers tonight and I encourage others to do the same when they hit their knees tonight. God Bless.

That is bad news to hear of such great wrestlers having tragic luck. I hope both are able to compete to their abilities and make it out of this ok.

Pete is at St. Francis. He is on the 3rd floor ICU. The family is in the 3rd floor ICU waiting room.

They are keeping Pete heavily sedated, keeping blood pressure down, and keeping him still. Urban and the family say they haven't been told much about recovery time. Just needs to let the aortic repair heal first and foremost. They stitched up his face, which is pretty banged and swollen.

Don't know if it is good news or not, but we thought they were gonna have to open up his chest to do the procedure, but they came from the side, underneath the ribs, but him from his backbone to his belly around the side, the way Urban explained it. I'm no doctor, but I would think that would be a less painful recovery from that.

I'm sure all of your prayers are appreciated.

I would classify the mood now as cautiously optimistic. But of course it is tough sitting around waiting.

ps. Brent appears to be fine, just shook up. He's up there waiting on his buddy to heal up.

Pete and Brent...I am thinking of you and have prayed for you and your families. I will continue to do so from this day forward until Pete is in the clear. If there is anything you guys need from any of us in the wrestling community don't be afraid to ask.

God Bless,

Coach Church

This is really tough. The Furches Family has both Pete and Brent in our prayers. Anything the rest of us can do, let us know.

We will pray as often as we can for their healing process. What type of car accident was it? And do you know what happened? Thinking and praying for them both!

We need to remember it is "just a sport" and to let the kids have fun!
