I might be wrong on this but I think the only two Kansas kids left are Deshazer and Cole Garcia. I think Garcia has to win one more match to become an all-american.

See my post on the other thread for the five left in. Only guaranteed placer so far is Deshazer.

Here is how Kansas is sitting as of 7:00 am. Sunday Morning.

The following wrestlers are all within one match of placing in the top 8. They will be wrestling at 9:00 am. this morning.

103: Dante Rogers-Wichita
135: Dylan Loyd-St. Francis
140: Cole Garcia-Colby
189: Jesse Strawn-Holton

And
130: Tristian Deshazer-Wichita
He has already guarenteed top six finish. He lost a hard fought match last night in the Champ. Semis. He will wrestle late morning or early afternoon to see if he will go for 5th or 3rd place.

The importance of winning matches on the front side can't be emphasized enough. I noticed that 4 consecutive wins on the front at most weights will guarantee All American status, the exeption being Rogers' 103 bracket where only 2 would be needed, but if you lose the first one it is TOUGH-- witness Garcia's six wins and still one to go! Dylan has to win 5, I believe, Rogers 2, If I am reading the bracket correctly. Some of the bigger brackets have a BRUTAL back side, it would seem.

Looks like Loyd came up a match short - what a brutal consolation bracket....Dylan sure made a nice run....congrats!

But Rogers (going for 5th&6th), Garcia (going for 7th&8th) and Strawn (going for 7th&8th) all secured AA honors this morning. Plus Deshazer (for 3rd&4th). Four AA's.....nice work guys!

Congrats to all of Team KS!

I'll take my beating for what seems like an obvious statement, but losing early sure made Cole have to work-- six consecutive wins to get 8th. By comparison, in comparable brackets, Tristan won 4 before his loss to be in the same spot it took Cole 6 wins to reach. Strawn had 6 wins with his two losses, and 8th, Dylan had 5 wins and did not place, Rogers (due to a smaller bracket) won 4 to finish 5th. My point is that Cole 's accomplishment to run up the back of a bracket that big with that much talent, is something that you don't see too often, and that had he won just one round on the front the journey would have been shorter. At any rate, My hat is off to Mr. Garcia, for a job darn well done.

Yet another great showing for the KS team on the national level. Shame to see Missouri not keeping up... Looks as though only Oklahoma beat Kansas in the Kansas vs. Bordering states battle, Missouri was 4th behind even Colorado... Sad day for gutwrench

Agreed, but it does happen from time-to-time.

Pretty sure Clay Center's Pfizenmaier won 8 or 9 in a row (memory is gettting bad, but one of those he may have even had to wrestle twice because the table workers paired him with the wrong guy ) to end up placing 4th (I think).

Ohio's CB Dollaway lost his first match by major decision to Oklahoma's Matt Steele and ended up avenging the loss to Steele in the consolation semi finals after rattling off 6 or 7 wins.

Gabe Jenkins finished a match short of AA after winning several on the back-side.

Will certainly agree that winning out the front makes it easier. But a blind draw in a tournament of this magnitude does some pretty cruel things....look at Tait Weatherbee's first round pairing.....Mat Gilliland lost in the quarterfinals to the kid who went on to beat the "unbeatable" Alex Tsirtsis. Jack Dennis lost to some guy named Tommy Rowlands in the quarters. Hawaii's/Cornell's Travis Lee lost to Shawn Bunch pretty badly on the front side of the NHSCA nationals, but was waiting for Bunch on the backside and avenged the loss. Eric Luedke - 3x state finalist, 2x NJCAA national champ, NCAA All-American - caught Joey Eckloff in his first or second match and finished short of AA.

There are absolute monsters like that in every bracket every year.....just luck of the draw on how early we hit them - on the front or back sides.

But what makes can make a difference is when our Kansans show their exceptional resolve and character (and a little cross-bracketing luck) by strapping it up and battling back after taking a loss on the front side.

And Team Kansas had some of those type of performances this year. Kudos to them.

Important to note that the Dapper Dan Classic was also wrestled this weekend, so that kept those kids out of the NHSCA senior nationals.

Nebraska, Oklahoma and Colorado all had representatives competing there...given that they were in the Dapper Dan, it is reasonable to expect they would have had an impact on the team scores had they competed in the NHSCA (not guaranteed, but certainly possible).

Neither Kansas nor Missouri had an athlete selected to compete in this year's Dapper Dan.

Xavier was the only one that went this year. The rest of the talented class of big men opted to stay home to chase football dreams.

I am really suprised out how far down Pennsylvania finished (tied for 17th w/ 73 points). They have some of the best wrestling in the nation and the tournament is in their backyard. I expected them to be much higher as it would not be difficult for many of their kids to get to the tournament.

Actually the Dapper-Dan dual was this same weekend. An all Pennsylvania team duals a "dream team" from across the US. Therefore some of the larger names form Penn I believed wrestled in the DD instead of Senior Nationals but still I get what you're saying... it is quite shocking.

Here are all the individual results from NHSCA SR. NATIONALS for Team Kansas. This tournament from the first rounds on was full of wild scrambles and hard faught matches. Every athlete at this event impressed me and I want to wish everyone from Team Kansas a great college career and/or life in whatever path they choose.

Nash Burtin had to wrestle both Rolondo and Rudy Corpus from Ohio? What are the odds of that. So if Rolondo had beat Nash he would of had to wrestle Rudy in an elimination round?
