As many of you may or may not know, the long time coach of the Oakley Plainsmen, Dale Samuelson, has been diagnosed with cancer. An egg sized lymphoma was found in his throat about a month ago, and since then he has been through the full battery of tests. I won't go into the details, but let's just say the news hasn't been good. He has meant a lot to us here in Oakley for over 30 years and I believe he is to be inducted into the Kansas Wrestling Hall of Fame this year. I am always impressed with how the wrestling community has pulled together as a family in times of trouble, and we would greatly appreciate it now. Keep Dale in your thoughts and prayers and I know it would strengthen him a lot if people would drop him a line to let him know they are thinking of him: His address is;
Dale Samuelson
811 E. 6th
Oakley, Kansas 67748
Thanks to everyone,
~John

Thanks, Aaron.
Dale got his final test results this week. He has been told that he has stage 4 cancer, and that it is in the bone and on multiple organs. Aparently only 2% of cancer patients get this type of cancer and it does not respond to typical treatment. This being the case, he will be leaving next week for a drug trial in Omaha. If I can get an address for him there, I will post it. Until then, he is at home.

To the wrestling family:

As many of you already know, Dale Samuelson is battling cancer. He has mantel cell lymphoma and will be starting his treatments in Omaha on Friday the 15th of September. I talked to Dale on Wednesday the 13th and his attitude is really good and he is ready to get started with the treatments.

Dale and his wife, Lorraine, got caught in between health insurance policies and they did not have any in force when he was hit with this illness. He has had surgery to remove a tumor in his throat and many tests that were done in Hays. He now is at the cancer center in Omaha. We all know the costs associated with an illness; including time away from home, travel, motels, meals, etc. Dale and Lorraine would never ask for help and so myself and many others are asking for them. Dale has done so much for others and now is a time we can do something for him. I am asking for you support and for you to let others know about a fund we have set up for Dale. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated. Funds can be sent to:

Samuelson Relief Fund
c/o Peoples State Bank
610 W. 2nd
Oakley, Ks. 67748

You can also send or take in personally to any other Peoples State Bank office in Goodland, Colby, Hoxie, or Atwood.

Sincerely,

Bruce Campbell (Oakley)

On behalf of the Colby Wrestling Club we would like to donate 100 dollars and challenge every club in the state to follow suit. I have posted a topic on the kids talk forum hoping to spark interest in this challenge state wide. The wrestling community has always been a tightly knit group of people that always seem to take care of individuals in their time of need. Good luck Dale and know that everyone is pulling for you.
