United States Girls Wrestling Association was started by Mr. Kent Bailo to promote girls wrestling when no one was even thinking about girls wrestling. He was the first girls wrestling tournament. We are associated with USA Wrestling in Kansas and thus most boys and girls tourneys(note, I said most) are USAW sanctioned. My husband, Coach Ed is the director for Women's/Girl's wrestling in Kansas and we felt we, as USAW, should host a girl's championship tourney, as well. This is an edict from Terry Steiner, the National Women's director for USAW in Colorado. There have been lots of discussion about the costs involved with a USGWA tourney, I will not argue those here, just say that the profit margin is quite low in a stand alone girls tourney, thus the reason Mr. Bailo charges so much, I am sure. We hope to get our tourney to the level that we exceed what Mr. Bailo has done, so that USAW KS can shine above the rest. We are receiving tremendous support from USAW KS and actually when we compete at the national level, the other states think Kansas is really doing something. I hope this answers your questions and we hope to see you out to some of the tourneys.

We try to identify as many girls wrestling events as possible so that our wrestlers are best prepared to participate at tournaments for girls. As best I can tell, the following tournaments are either girls only or they include a girls division. The information can also be found on the Krusaders web site:
Feb 20 Midwest Regional Girls Championships in Lawrence, KS. Feb 26 USGWA Girls Championships in Lawton, OK Feb 27 USGWA Girls Championships in Kanopolis, KS. Mar 5 USGWA Girls State in Wymore, NE. Mar 5 USGWA Girls State in Fort Lupton, CO. Mar 13 USAW Girls State Championships in Ellsworth, KS. Mar 19-20 USGWA National Championships in Port Orion, MI. April 1-3 MVC Freestyle Showcase in Marshall, MO. April 8-10 USAW Body Bar Nationals in San Diego, CA. April 15-16 Southern Plains Regional Championships in Marshall, MO. May 5 Freestyle Tournament in Arkansas City, KS. May 14 Freestyle Tournament in Wichita, KS. June 4 Greco-Freestyle State Tournament in Junction City June 11-12 Southern Plains Tournament in New Mexico July 22-30 USAW Women’s Freestyle Nationals in Fargo, ND
We hope to see you at a tournament this year.
Jeff

We are still accepting entries for the tourney this Sunday in Ellsworth, KS. Please see above for the info. You may call or email me with your entry info but make sure I confirm with you that I receive them. We are shaping up to be a good tourney but I did do another mailer to all the boys clubs in the state and every girl with a USA card. If you hear of anyone still wanting to come to this tourney. Please let me know. I will post directions later today. If you hurry I can just get you a shirt too!
Also, we have offically changed the name to the USAW KS Girls Festival. That way girls from anywhere can compete. At this time we, along with USA Wrestling in Colorado feel that until our numbers are large enough to substantiate turning someone away, we will provide the opportunity for any girl that wants to wrestle to wrestle. There are no qualifiers for this tourney at this time either.
