Scott Elliott is at Ark City. He is the undefeated 2 time state champion. I would have at least rated him 6th somewhere.

The VOLUNTEER who performs the rankings relies on information received (or not received) from the 5A coaches. The ranking coordinator stated in the heading:

"These are based on returning state points. When more information about lineups is received, the team rankings will be based off the number of ranked wrestlers and an assigned point value. Some teams will slide up and down considerably as a result."

The information regarding Scott Elliott and Brett Bahe returning state points from class 4A was provided to the ranking coordinator after compilation of this very preliminary rankings list.

Sorry Richard but your are wrong. Look at the rankings. They have Hutch ranked 3rd in 5A. The rankings has numberous Hutch kids ranked in 5A including Romero (160) and Ben Evans (189). But Hutch was 6A last year! So how did these Hutch guys get in the 5A ranking? The volunteer obviously noted that Hutch has moved down to 5A and ranked accordingly. But no similar adjustment was made for Scott who also moved to 5A. I simply pointed out that Scott Elliot is now at 5A and he also needs to be ranked. If obivous mistakes in the rankings are not pointed out then they will never be reliable. I am not attacking the volunteer but simply helping him out. So take a deep breath and relax or else it will be a very long season.

Barry:

Sorry Barry, it is you who is unaware of the facts regarding this matter. On October 30, 2006 I provided the ranking coordinator, at his request, the information regarding the individual returning state points and the team state points for Hutchinson.

On November 10, 2006 the coordinator requested the same information regarding Scott Elliott and Brett Bahe, which was provided the same date.

The rankings which were posted is a preliminary list which was prepared prior to receiving the information regarding Scott Elliott and Brett Bahe.

Rest assured, the ranking coordinator is well aware Scott Elliott is wrestling in the 5A classification at Arkansas City.

I also know, a request has been made to correctly spell Scott's last name. It is Elliott, not Elliot.

Just a wild guess, but I believe Isenberg will finish higher than 4th at 135. Aldon, Millstead and Buehler make this a loaded weight class.

A few other thoughts about the 5A rankings:

If Detmer gets to 130 and Cotton gets to 160, I'll shave my beard.

I will go on defense as well... The first ranking (as all first rankings in high school should) is based off of last years weight classes and results at the state tournaments. With kids it will be hard to predict what weight class each kid in the state WILL wrestle at this year especially with the new hydration rules. Maybe more important the "PRE-SEASON" is nothin more than a list of good wrestlers who should be returning and your RIGHT Elliot and Bahe are very good wrestlers and deserve to be listed among the best. Last season I had a kid who didn't get ranked will Feb. He was second seeded at several tournaments and won them, was seeded third at regionals, and ended up in the state finals. Ultimatle ranking is about promoting kids, gettin exposure, and are mostly for fans and the media. TRUST ME when your a good wrestler, everyone in the wrestleing community knows.

I'm not proof-reading this so excuse the miscues...

Key to doing the rankings are the input of the coaches themselves for the coming year. I totally appreciate the hard work and time put in to do them, but unless one truly does their homework and the coaches fill out forms, it is a shot in the dark on weights, etc. This year with the hydration testing will also have some impact on cutting and shifting of weights.

It has been mispelled so much in the last two years I believe even Scott has started using only one "t"!

You can tell the season starts tomorrow, we are already arguing over rankings. I can't wait to see it settled on the mat this season. Good luck to everyone!

Does it have to be both Eric, or will it count if just one makes it,,,say for one weigh in?

That's why I played it safe with both of them making weight!

He still spells it Elliott. And I believe Ark City will get it right this year. I believe that the people doing the rankings do
alot of work for and recieve little in return. I look at the rankings as a fun thing and don't take them too serious. If Scott is ranked first or last what matters is where he finishes. Both Scott and Ark City are going to do all we can (as I'm sure everyone whos not individually or as a team ranked #1) to prove the rankings wrong. Those ranked #1 will do their best to prove them right.
P.S. The name thing is kind of a problem Last years state program which had Scott and Tim's (my Nephew) picture as 2005 state champions. Spelled Scotts name Scott Elliot and Tim's name was spelled Ryan Sallee.

Talk about not even in the same ballpark with the Sallee deal. Ark City will be rocking this year and I bet Silvis will have them back to the Old Ark way.

Maybe... I dont know who you are so I cant really speak to your wrestling experience.. but high school coaches can do some WEIRD stuff in seeding meetings... It took me a year to figuar it out BUT TRUST ME ranking NEVER comes up... Generally High School coaches look at head to head; what u did at state the previous year; common opponents; what place you did at the same tournament last year... I honestly dont think record plays a major part in seeding meeting except for deciding who can or can not be seeded.

Excuse the typos and someone correct me if I am wrong or left somethin out.
