10u 76lbs Jordan Wollard was injured during a match against one of our wrestlers.
For those of you that witnessed the injury, you know just how we all felt for that young man. The response from parents, coaches and spectators was commendable (at least from the stands) but the medics left something to be desired.
Does anyone have an update that they would be willing to share? We know he left via ambulance and was headed to Overland Park Regional, but wouldn't be surprised if he was transferred to Children's Mercy for a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. Any information at all would be appreciated, provided it was approved by his family.
As you can imagine, our wrestler was quite rattled and we would like to be able to update him and his family.
We want to wish Jordan a speedy recovery and hope this doesn't deter him from wrestling in the future.
Thanks, USAWMom

I am the father of Jordan Wollard. First of all, thank you to everyone at the tournament who was concerned for Jordan, all your thoughts, prayers and concerns are greatly appreciated. I especially want to thank this mom of the Piper club for starting this post. Please share with Jake that he certainly didn't do anything wrong and Jordan will be fine. I also want to thank our club for all of their support, calls and concerns.
We were taken to KU MED and after xrays and several hours, we're transfered to Children's Mercy for further evaluation. Another set of xrays and more waiting hours, they initially determined it was severely dislocated. However, this morning Children's Mercy called us and re-examined his xrays with more orthodedic doctors. They concluded that he does in fact have a fracture. They called it an avulsion fracture. The tendon separated from the bone, pulling fragments with it. There is a possibility that it may require surgery to repair. We will follow up with an orthopedic doctor this week to determine how to proceed.
Thanks for your encourgement to Jordan. This was Jordan's first open tournament and only his second match of the season. He said in the hospital last night "so I guess I lost". He was amazed this morning that so many people were asking about him. He thought it was cool. We are concerned after this injury that he will not want to wrestle again. I think knowing so many people showing their concern, is encouraging him. He said this morning that maybe he could still go to practice and watch his brother. Needless to say, his dad and wrestling brother Josh, is glad to hear that. Oh - and mom's doing OK too.
If you like, I can post further with updates on Jordan's recovery. Thanks again.

Jordan certainly has had a rough start at his wrestling career, but we hope he is able to remain in good spirits. As mothers of children active in several sports, injury is one of our biggest fears. Pain subsides, broken bones heal but it can be heart-wrenching to watch your little one try to recover from a broken spirit.
We would like to recognize Jake's Dad, John Paul, for going above and beyond compared to typical parents on the sidelines. He is a professional and truly compassionate. He represented our community and his family in rare form.
We appreciate your update and look forward to further information.

Update on Jordan's injury for those of you interested. We visited the Orthopedic doctor yesterday. After another set of xray's it was determined he severely dislocated his elbow and there was a slight fracture, but does not require surgery. He is in a cast for 3 weeks and then some physical therapy to regain movement in his elbow. The doctor said he should have complete recovery and be back to normal in a few weeks and certainly able to be back on the mat next year. All good news.
My sincere thanks once again to everyone's thoughts, prayers, concerns and actions on Jordan's behalf. It is truly appreciated by all of us, and has been a great testament to the unique "family" that is the wrestling community.

Great news that he doesn't need surgery. My son was sitting on the mat right in front of the match when it happened.. he was really worried about him. I hope it doesn't impact his determination to wrestle in the future!
