I know that there are a lot of great wrestlers at this weight. My son wrestles this weight and has had a hard time this year. Last year he dominated, but this year moving up to 8 and under he is struggling. There are too many good wrestler's at this age and weight to predict who will win state.

Andrew Johnson, Greater Gold-Wichita will be a contendor if not state champ this year.

oops, re-read your post and see you were just making a statement not asking who anyone thought would win state in this age/weight.
Yes, do agree that most of the time there is a great difference between being at the top and bottom of your age group.
At the bottom of the age group last year, our 7 year old (now 8)held his own but struggled to place. His little brother has wrestling birthday (that's what we call it!)in September and I do think it does have an advantage.
Hang in there! Next year will come soon enough :-)

There have been a couple of 64 pounders jump up to 67 to see if the competition is a little easier. That caused a couple of 67 pounders to test the waters at 70. It will be pretty interesting to see who wrestles what weights at subs.

I agree that Andrew Johnson from Greater Gold will be a contender. But there is also Zeb Speer, Xavier Pingleton, Tubbs, Kissane, Martinez, etc. It will be very interesting to watch. I know my son will probably not make it past districts, not probably, won't make it past districts. But I am looking forward to watching the 8 and under 64lb. weight group at state.

Ryan Nava has beat Kissane and Tubbs head to head this year. Nava placed 2nd at Salina with Speer taking 3rd. Nava has been beat by Johnson 2 times this year. Could be a fun one to watch come state time.

Yea, I forgot about Nava, sorry. I have seen him wrestle (I think he lost that match), but he is very good. That is why I said etc. It will be interesting.

Blaine Wood from Andover is definitely a top contender. Blaine has beaten Andrew Johnson at least once this year and has taken 1st in almost every tourney he's wrestled.

Another kid to watch is Kaleb Lapointe of the SW GRAPPLERS, he is looking pretty good right now and has been taking 1st and 2nd in the 6 and under Div. He is a big kid with alot of skills for a 1st year wrestler!

The 8u 64lb bracket at Effingham yesterday was awesome! It is great to see such competition.
Alex Martinez - Doniphan Chase Reynolds - Thunderbirds Zeb Speer - Doniphan Jon Trowbridge - Piper Riley Tubbs - Rossville Cal Bloomfield - Indy
These kids have wrestled each other so many times, they are a fun match to watch...
I know that a few of these boys will be dropping down to 61 and 58, as that is their natural weight.
