... I did notice that at Ottawa, the cotton candy machine was a pretty popular spot for some wrestlers!!

In my opinion there is an exception to what you are talking about! My son is 14 and weighed 232 on December 1st! He will weigh in at 205 for subs. My other son is 12 and weighed 162 on Dec 1st! He will weigh in at 140 for subs. My other son is 8 and weighed 110 on Dec 1st and he will weigh 100 for subs! There are kids out there that have it to give. I feel worse for letting my boys get like that then encouraging them to take it off! They have done a total life style change and these are the rewards that they have to show for it! This was a result of the love of the sport of wrestling and wanting to compete at a HIGHER LEVEL. They all had a doctors visit today and he saluted them for their efforts and said they should keep it up until they hit their target weights! This was not done through "cutting"! I WILL ADMIT THAT CUTTING CAN BE BAD! THIS has been a life style change! We still get the whispers and looks from people!! This has been the best thing that I have ever done for my boys! Self esteem HIGHER! Love of the sport GREATER! The way they are treated by other kids and even adults PRICELESS!!!! Its not all bad! It might of even saved their lives! Now that they are way more active they are even pushing me to get off my BIG rump! So I gotta go, we got our mile walk to do!

BLT- The boys look terrific and I am not just telling you that I believe it is important for them to know others recognize their transformation, so of course I tell them too!!
Their efforts have not gone without notice! Kudos to all three of them!!

Twinkies are okay, as long as they are the reduced fat, sugar free Tuna Twinkies.

You can eat anything as long as you have a diet coke to wash it down. The calories are then balanced out. That's why I go to McDonald's and order a #1 with a diet coke.
In all seriousness, we have found the best way to watch weight is to have our sons take a bag of salad and a plastic fork with them to school. I open up the bag, lightly pour some fat-free salad dressing, squish it up to mix it up, close it with a twist-tie and off they go. I tell them they can eat as much of the salad as they want and they usually eat it all right out of the bag. To help mix it up, I may throw in some cut-up grilled chicken or sunflower seeds, or fruit into the bag as well. When they come home from school, they grab some fruit or a bag of baby carrots. For supper, everyone has Progressive Soup or Healthy Choice soup of their choice and a sandwich (usually turkey).

My vote is 73. He is going to have to make that weight for the rest of the month of March assuming he continues to qualify. (Sorry to disagree with you Partrick, but Ethin was in this very situation 3-4 years ago. He stayed at the lower weight and he was miserable for the last 3 weeks of the season.) Growth Spurt!

We have taken all of the advice and through some whinning we had been able to control his diet and he came home from school weighing in at 69.8. We'll see what he is at after a hard practice tonight- Didn't realize how much sodium was in common foods! Thanks for the help!

Jake has had one every March for the past 3 years. This year I outsmarted the growth spurt and wrestled him at 52 all year. At the beginning he was weighing 50lbs. Now he is consistantly 51.5 and will probably be 52.5 by the end of March. I'm glad we didn't try to make 49 all year.

Yea Beeson, thats how we did it as well. I can't say it was to outsmart the growth spurt though, we had three boys 8u 49 at the beginning of the season. I elected to move Kolton up to seperate the kids a little better, as Jake, Kolton is hitting 51.4 or so each week.

Wrestling is a terrific sport choice for your boys, "sound body, sound mind!" We'll look forward to seeing them at the high school level. The life style change sounds like it is healthy for your whole family. Kudos!
