Yeah, the pepperoni pizza for breakfast wasn't too bad. I'm kind of ust to the pizza being cold when I eat it at 8:00 a.m. though

I'm sorry we ran out of food in the cafeteria. When I ordered the supplies from F & A, we were only planning on 350-400 wrestlers which was the number we had registered on Monday. Imagine my surprise when the number swelled to 500+ on Thursday. By Saturday, the number was around 560. Thankfully, we had plenty of food in the concession stand but unfortunately, not enough hamburgers or bisquits and gravy. (I almost had a heart attack when I looked into the cafeteria and it was packed with hungry wrestlers and their families at 6:30am!, I knew we would probably run out of biscuits/gravy by 8:30) Next year, I promise I will double our order to F & A.

I would like to take this time to thank the Manhattan, Junction City and Abilene wrestling club for working tables at our tournament. I would also like to thank all of the Chapman high school students who freely volunteered their Saturday to spend the day in the gym running all kinds of errands, filling in brackets, working tables, and cleaning up two gyms after a hard day of work. Many of these kids had never been to a kids wrestling tournament before or have any vested interest in wrestling. I do think though we made more than a few fans of the sport by the end of the day. They all seemed to enjoy it.

Same could be said for some of the officials. ;\)

Yeah, we had a lot of young officials at the tournament but what better way to learn than at a kids wrestling tournament working with the little kids? They were all certified and I can guarantee, they had seen their share of wrestling too. Wichita had the more seasoned officials which is okay, they had a much bigger tournament.

Everyone wants the guys with experience but people forget it's hard to get that experience if you are not first a rookie. You have to start somewhere.

I have to say, eventhough the officials were young and had some questionable or missed calls, I was glad to see them stand their ground and not quiver under the pressure of some of the comments and looks they were getting. They will get better and be seasoned veterans one day, thanks to the newbies for steppin up and helping out.

You put out an urgent message for Refs on Thursday!!! Maybe schedule you refs in advance, pay for there LUNCH when they agree to show up. In general take care of you refs & you wouldn't have that problem of getting very novice refs (at best) in the first place.

I see the post that started this thread mentioned a hospitality room. I must have missed it, the refs could have eaten lunch in there as well as the coaches couldn't they?

There was actually a nice mix of experienced and young referees at the Chapman tournament. I coached many matches and was very impressed with all of the refs and thought they did a great job. I can only recall asking for clarification of calls a couple of times (and was given clear explanations) and never had a situation where I felt a call was blown.

I also noticed that after the tournament some of the younger refs were gathered around one of the experienced refs asking him questions and going over different scenarios they experienced throughout the day. That shows great maturity and a desire to improve their skills (which we should all attempt to do). We need more young refs like these gentlemen!!!

The starting thread was for humor. There was no hospitality room and the medals would of been great back in 1975.I bet the results will be up today too.

I would like to know why Chapman did 2 combined brackets for 73-76 an A and B why not just one for 73 and one for 76. And the Kid from Chapman should've been in the A but was in the B I wonder why?

I have never been to a tournament where I agreed with every call. I do know we are losing experienced officals because of the way some coaches are acting. I was once told to sit down and shut up it was a judgement call. I did and the matched progressed as it should have. I hope we don't have to cancel tournaments due to lack of officials.
