There is still openings for two more teams. The tournament is an individual tournament held on December 19th and 20th, 2008 at the KCI Expo Center in Kansas City, MO. We are committed to a format that allows each wrestler to get as many matches as possible. We anticipate every wrestler to get between 5 and 8 matches.
The 2007 tournament included approximately 142 state qualifiers, 83 state medalists and 33 state champions in the field. This also includes at least 9 Fargo All Americans. Of the 33 state champions there was 9 2 time state champs and 5 three time state champs. The 145 pound weight class consisted of 7 state champions and 130 pounds had 3 three time state champions competing. Several matches pitted nationally ranked wrestlers against each other. Most weight classes featured some nationally ranked individuals. These were the accomplishments of the wrestlers prior to the 2007 Tournament. The tournament has now expanded to include more teams and will be even tougher.
Here are the accomplishments of the teams/wrestlers that were in the tournament last year. There was 4 team State Champion 14 State Trophies out 24 teems There was 39 State Champions 24 State Runner-ups and 59 State Placers placers (122 Total Placers 8.7 Placers per weight Class) there was 14 nationally ranked wrestlers (Intermat wrestle) 38 Nationally Ranked Wrestlers (Wrestling USA) and 18 Fargo All-Americans
If you are interested in a slot in the tournament or require additional information contact Tom Taulbee @ kansascitywrestlingassoc@yahoo.com or 816-582-5417.

St. James Academy would love to participate in this tournament and I am sure there are other Johnson County wrestlers who would like to showcase their talent but unfortunately it conflicts with the Johnson County Classic. Perhaps someone could spearhead an effort to make the Classic a season ending tournament to replace the lame league tournaments that now occupy the weekend prior to regionals. Many schools in Johnson County see each other way too much during the regular season. Surely there is a way we can move the Classic to allow Johnson County wrestlers the opportunity to participate in the Midwest Wrestling Classic, the best tournament a Kansas team can compete in due to the KSHSAA travel restriction.

Is participation in the Johnson County Classic required?
If not, perhaps St. James should drop out of the Classic and take part in the Missouri event. Seems to be a more efficient and less obtrusive solution than moving an entire tournament and eliminating other tournaments so the Missouri tournament can pick up one more team
Just an idea.

I knew that had been a problem in the past but someplace I got the impression that we were not on the same weekend this year.

KC Wres, The tournaments are once again in conflict.
Egg, Who pulled your chain? You are The Mann 400 miles from here! There is no tournament that is mandatory but traditionally ALL of the Johnson County schools participate in the Johnson County Classic. No schools from outside of the county. Every weekend a good number of the Johnson County schools are in a local tournament competing against each other. At the end of the year the Sunflower and EKL league tournaments are comprised mostly of Johnson County schools. The 6A regional is comprised of Johnson County schools. My suggestion was to move the tournament to free up all of the schools to have a chance to compete in a tournament with wrestlers these schools would never see at any other tournament. Who cares if the tournament is in Missouri, Nebraska, or Kansas. Because of KSHSAA members such as yourself, wrestlers from Kansas are not permitted to go to Ohio, Pennsylvania, or Nevada for the biggest tournaments in the country but this one is close enough. It is an awesome tournament and I choose to promote it because it deserves promoting. I thought you were going away? I say if you don't have a horse in the race stay on the sidelines.

Why, Thank you, Wiil; yes I'm fine.
Glad to see you have not lost your sense of humor.
Just offered a suggestion to help solve your scheduling dilemma; you certainly don't have to take it.
I'll be around so don't hesitate to ask for help when you need it!
Take care.
