Lou Ann,
Thank you for introducing the topic and article. It was a very good story on Jacob. It is also great to get a positive story on high school wrestling on the front page of the sports section. Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star did a good job finding the story and reporting on it.
My wife and I are pretty proud of all the hard work Jacob has done over the last year in losing all that weight and preparing himself for this wrestling season. His coaches at Aquinas led by Lorne Parks have really helped him progress this past year. Clint Slyter has been an addition to the Aquinas staff this season and he is really being a great big man coach for Jacob this year. Sean McCarthy of STA Kids Club worked Jacob hard in the spring and summer. Jacob is also making some good academic progress this year and my wife and I are very proud of him for that too.

Vince and Linda, You should be proud....he is not only a great wrestler, but a great kid. He has always shown class and handled his self greatly on the mat. Good luck Jacob!

I am pretty sure Jacob will wrestle the 215 weight class for the rest of the Kansas folkstyle high school season. He hopes to wrestle in college at either 184 or 197.

Thank you. We feel the same way about Lucas. I hope my Cornhuskers give him a scholarship offer next year!

Wrong color of red. Lucas would look much better in Crimson and playing for a National Champion!

To be clear, the winningest program since WWII is playing for the National Championship on January 8th, 2009. Alabama is playing in a secondary bowl game. It's a great time to be a Sooner. Between the two consecutive bedlam victories, Six Big 12 conference titles (3 in a row), a fifth Heisman trophy winner and an undefeated b-ball team, it's sometimes forgotten that the school is actually known for stressing academics. Man, it's lonely on top! p.s. I am rooting for your Pokes in Friday's Holiday bowl.

FedEx BCS National Championship Jan. 8 7 p.m. Miami, FL Oklahoma vs. Florida FOX I reckon it all depends if you choose to recognize the BCS National Championship game as the determing factor. Much like a few years back with the AP and UPI polls, until there is a national championship series (similar to a State Championship Wrestling Series in Kansas) and championship game (Similar to a Grand State Championship in Kansas Wrestling) to determine a true national champion for collegiate football, the outcome of the game is as meaningless as the All Class rankings.

This could really be bad for you two, you could be a Tennessee Fan. BTW, a great article on Jacob. I will pull for a Nowak no matter where he ends up. Sounds like he should be doing a getting in shape video.

Ah, it's not quite as meaningless as the All-Class rankings! When the BCS winner is confirmed by the AP and USA Today polls, there will be no real despute. For the record, I am for a playoff system as well as a grand state championship in Kansas. p.s. Thanks young Nowak, for allowing us to use your thread to sing our college fight songs!

Not to hijack the thread anymore from Jacob, but I have a source in the Oklahoma University system that indicates Clark Hunt is interested in Bob Stoops possibly replacing Herman Edwards in KC.
remember you heard it here first

remember you heard it here first I bet Jacob is enjoying the thread being hijacked this way more than any of us. I think it is definitely time for Coach Stoops (By the way he is a real wrestling fan) to enter the pro ranks. Chief is getting way too cocky about his Sooners. We need to go back to that period between Switzer and Stoops for Oklahoma. Those were the good old days as far a I was concerned. The Big Red is back and so are the Blackshirts! Go, Pellini!

I think it is definitely time for Coach Stoops (By the way he is real wrestling fan) to enter the pro ranks. I suspect Coach Stoops will consult with his former mentor Steve Spurrier regarding any offer to coach in the NFL. Based on Spurrier's experience in the NFL I would not expect a strong recommendation from him to advance to that level. Chief is getting way too cocky about his Sooners. As much as it pains me to admit, Stoops has brought much needed discipline to the Oklahoma program and his program has earned my respect. I cannot blame Chief for reveling in their success. Shucks, I even have a niece who, several years ago, was a Sooner cheerleader and Sooner football homecoming queen. We need to go back to that period between Switzer and Stoops for Oklahoma. Those were the good old days as far a I was concerned. Indeed. The Big Red is back and so are the Blackshirts! Go, Pellini! The Sooners are a well coached team and have proven themselves while the Huskers, well, time will tell and hopefully Sooner (pun intended) rather than later.
