Just a few thoughts on the Finals:Matches started at 215 Kriss vs. Caylor much anticipated 1 vs. 3 Kriss 7-0 Kriss has no problems with the #1 never was in trouble. 285 Serna in very tight match Page cant work his tilt on top position Serna athletic heavy. 103 Waters very big and strong 103. One thing i don't understand why does Newton allow a Saturday weigh in??????? 112 Evenly matched overtime tilt wins match. 119 Vesta wins very competive weight. Deepest weight at tournament. Vesta looks like he could be at 112. 125 DeShazer wins with overtime takedown kinda looked like a typical hwt. match 130 Biddle up early and holds on. 135 Anderson very impressive looks like a state champ 140 Maple to me may be the best wrestler in the state can't belive that chief has him at 2. 145 Crank impressive in finals 152 Sutherland wins with late reversal. Conklin great looking freshman. These 2 need to be higher in the rankings. 160 Detmer enough said 171 Arnberger vs. Nelson no contest Arnberger takes Nelson down 4 times and cuts him way to good on his feet. 189 Kolmer gets penalty point and escape late to win match.

Napier and Maple are extremely close in folkstyle. It would be a great match to see! 152 is deep with Watson leading the pack. Should be fun down the stretch!

Chase Nelson was no where near 100 percent for this match I was surprised to see he even wrestled. Not to take anything away from Arnberger, but Nelson could hardly move warming up before the finals.

Jason Murdock You probably meant to take something away from Arnberger or you would not have said anything!

Not at all just amused by the comment about how it wasn't even a close contest.

Sorry to learn that Mr. Nelson wasn't up to par. Highly likely as I know much sickness is going around this time of year. And, of course an injury can pop up at anytime. However, Arnberger still looked very impressive. QUICK! For a big dude. Like he'd been chasing rabbits and catching them out there in good ole Western KS! Good luck to both of them as the season continues.

Not to take anything away from Nelson, but Arnberger wasn't 100% either wrestling with a 103 degree temperature and a broken leg!

Shudog they have a 1 hour weigh in after your weight is done on Friday. Waters didn't make weight on Friday but was allowed to weigh in on Saturday.

Well there you have it it's a wash! The only statement I was trying to make was that I think it would have been a closer contest after all he is a national champ that took Caldwell and Detmer to overtime and does tend to be pretty good on his feet. Jason Murdock

They did the same saturday morning weigh in at Basehor. Will they allow the 2nd chance saturday weigh in at State as well??? Wrestling some of the hugecutting monsters on Friday at least somewhat evens things up a bit, if they know they have to make weight in one hour.

i wasn't there and dont know if it is true - it was my understanding that athletes had an hour after their weight was completed to make weight. I know most would not want to wate but go eat. Was it an offical option to pass until the am?

At the Newton TOC there were two weigh-in options.
The fist option was to weigh-in within one hour after completion of the last semi-final match for your weight class. After the last bout was recorded by the official scorer the time was recorded and announced.
The second option was a Saturday morning weigh-in at 7:00 A.M.
A wrestler was allowed only one (1) weigh-in.

yes u can weigh in on saturday for state so looks like the haters on waters pulling weight will still see him with the state title at 103 this year The State Tournament Saturday weigh-in option is only available for one (1) hour for wrestlers who were unable to participate in the Friday evening weigh-in as a result of an injury sustained during Friday's competition that required that the wrestler be off the competition site during the Friday evening weigh-in. The reason(s) for the wrestler being permitted to have a Saturday morning weigh-in must be approved by the KSHSAA before 11:30 P.M. Friday evening.

Richard, will that be the same for the state and regional tournaments? I was typing my reply to the previous question at the time you posted this question. The previous answer applies to both Regional and State weigh-in procedures.

I think the option is also there to weigh-in one hour after the completion of the heavyweight matches as well, for any wrestler, but again, they may only weigh in at one time, if they start after their own weight class, they have to make weight during that hour. (Regionals & State)
