Congratulations to my son's St. Thomas Aquinas team on their victory yesterday. You guys did great yesterday and showed good improvement at the right time of the year. Keep it up over the last three meets.
Also I got to give a special congratulations to my son Jacob Nowak whose championship yesterday was his fourth championship at the SM North Invitational. Congratulations, Jacob. Your mom and I are proud of this achievement of yours.

yes it was a great match, iam new to the wrestling seen, and so are my boys in just there second year in wrestling. the best sport i have seen them participate in. thanks to the great coaching by mike medina and the rest of the assistant coaches they have been able to enjoy a few wins and build some confidence. jack finishing fourth in just his 2nd varsity meet, dustin 4th as a sophmore and t.j. losing to the speckin kid from sta ,a state qualifier last year, winner advance to 3rd - 4th place match. i couldnt be happier as a parent. s j a is building a team for the future and can show a lot for it now !!!!!!!!! good job mike

An outstanding tournament like normal, but some of the officiating was the worst I've ever seen! I just don't understand why an official thinks they need to be the center of attention in a match...especially in overtime!

rhino50, i agree that the officiating was sub par. i didnt see 1 point taken for stalling. i watched my 135lb son ride a guy the whole 2nd period and the other kid never made any moves, ive seen in other meets were there was at least a warning for the same non wrestling. the match i think you are referring to, you are exactly right. should have never gone that far .

Actually, in the overtime match referred to there was a point taken for stalling earlier in the match. There was also a point taken for fleeing the mat in overtime when the wrestler avoided contact and stepped out of bounds. That's the definiton of fleeing the mat. Nobody likes to see a match end that way, especially the offical.
In an earlier match, a point was awarded for stalling when a wrestler repeatedly straggled back from out of bounds and eventually took a knee to catch a breather. He lost by a point. Another stall call and not popular with the coach but its the rule.
I saw several "riding the hips" calls for stalling.
I guess what you see is all how close you are to the action and what it is you are looking for. I thought the officiating was about on par -- some good, some bad -- just like the coaching and the wrestling. Not calling stalling or fleeing decides the match just as much as calling it, it just decides it for the other wrestler.
