The Kansas City Wrestling Assoc. is currently preparing a list of interested teams to select the invitees for the 2009 tournament. The tournament is an individual high school tournament. It will be held on December 18 & 19, 2009. We have not selected the final site for the 2009 tournament but it will be in the Kansas City area. We are committed to providing a format where every wrestler can get as many matches as can possibly be accommodated. We are looking at several ways to adjust last year’s format to get every wrester maximum matches,
We had an excellent lineup of competition this past year. There were teams from 9 states and 17 of the 32 teams had finished in the top three in their home state in 2008. The field included 28 state champions that had won 46 titles, six in one weight class and five three time champions. Several matches pitted nationally ranked wrestlers against each other. Most weight classes featured some nationally ranked individuals. Five of the teams are currently ranked in the AWN top 40 and a sixth ranked team has expressed interest for 2009.
