The Second Annual Border War Duals at Ray-Pec HS in Missouri will be on Dec 12th. We are looking for two teams for Kansas that would like to be a part of this great event. There are five teams from both states; each team will wrestle all five of the opposing state's teams with the state winning the most duals wining the tournament. This year Missouri won 22-3; the teams from MO that will be there next year are Ray-Pec, Kearney, Lee's summit West, Platte County and Blue Springs. If you are interested or have further question please contact me.

thanks

This is one of the KC area/Western Mo tourneys that Kansas teams need to enter! If you are going to do it do it against different and better competion--not the same in state guys 3, 4, 5, 6, times each year and then wonder why you get mugged at region or state.

Is this only limited to Kansas City area schools, because not many of these teams have very much depth this year?

Missouri’s best programs are around the Kansas City area many of Kansas’ best schools are too far out of the Metro area to make much of a difference in these Kansas City duals.

What about inviting teams as far west as the Colorado border (Colby, Goodland, Norton, Scott City) or how about teams from the Wichita area (Carroll, Heights, Goddard, Andale, Derby, Valley Center) or maybe the Manhattan area (Abilene, Clay Center, Junction City, Manhattan).

To me Valley Center would seem like a perfect candidate to test this tournament out for the non-Kansas City area teams, they already wrestle like 5 other dual tournaments. I also doubt Colby would go because this is the same weekend as they have their dual tournament that Valley Center and Scott City attend this tournament also. The Abilene-Manhattan Dual Tournament is also that weekend with those two teams attending and Goddard going there too. Clay Center also has there tournament which Norton, Junction City and Andale attend. Maybe one of these schools that doesn’t host a tournament that weekend would be willing to go.

This tournament is NOT limited to the KC area, I would like to encourage all teams that might be interested, large class or small class. We run a four class system in Missouri and Platte County is Class 2 (usually a top 10 team) and Kearney is class 3 (usually a top 10 team). It is not our attempt to have all big schools here, we would like to have as competitive of a tournament as possible.

I have contacted Carroll, Goddard, Garden City, Newton, Derby....as many teams as I could think of, about 40 total, that were not the KC area in the past year. If it is an issue of traveling to only get five matches or not wanting to drive 3 hours in the morning we can arrange for team rate at the local hotels, or possibly work with one of the Kansas teams for a dual Friday against one of the KS schools and then make the short 20 minute drive down to Ray-Pec. I think all of the KS schools that attended this past year would agree that the tournament set-up was very good and things were run very smoothly. This year wrestling started at 9:00 and the last dual finished up around 3:00

This provides a great opportunity to wrestle some kids that you will not see at regional’s and have a little competition between the states. It also provides an opportunity for the media to get involved as the event was covered by the KC Star and FOX 4.

Any coaches that are interested please contact me or I can answer question on here as well.

Thanks!
