i know i am beating a dead horse. but does anybody have hwt,s at this age that weigh 150? the weight limit is 125 for 8 and under. so why can,t these kids wrestle at 10 and under in state series? cutting weight is very hard on kids physically. they don,t perform right. and kansas wrestling won,t allow them a chance to wrestle up because of existing by-laws? feedback please.

Dean70 You know that I'm on your side here... But I think your plea is falling on deaf ears. It seems like every year we get a kid in our club that has to deal with this. I just think that nothing will be done here until an exec. board member is having to deal with this. You see that they can add a 100 pound class on the new H.S. division but heaven forbid they do something for the bigger guys. That's why we have had to manage our weight for the last 3 years as to not get into this spot. We are at 110 pounds for the 3rd year in a row. Good Luck here Dean! I'm glad Robert is out of those weeds. The fact that you are keeping this fight going is very cool.

When you sign up for and pay for your card just adjust the birthday. Who's going to complain about the 8 year old that wants to compete against the older boys. They will not add a another bracket for the very few 8 year olds that weigh 150+

This isn't just about kids at 150! What about kids at 135? The max weight at 8U is 125! There are plenty of kids out there that are cutting to make this weight to go to state. Question: Do you think there are more kids at 8U 125+? OR Do you think there are more kids from 10th to 12th grade UNDER 100? I bet the number is close to the same. I don't think either will be a FULL bracket because each sub may not have over 4 kids but there are a few brackets out there now that are not full. The point is they can make a weight class for the lower weights, why can't we help out the bigger guys? We have 8 year old kids cutting weight to go to state. Here's another issue... These kids go to tournament all season long and get to wrestle. We make adjustments & get them mat time. We take their money for entry fees, we take the money for their cards, we take their money for concessions & tee shirts. But come state time... "sorry kid!" Maybe we shouldn't sell them their cards? Wouldn't that be the right thing to do?
A lot of questions on my post!!! Anyone want to take a shot at some answers??

2 years in a row, i asked to wrestle robert up in the 10 and under brackets(150). the by-laws say kids must wrestle their own age and weight at state series. well there hasn,t been a weght class. i knew of at least 3 kids in his weight at 150. the other 2 kids wre very talented wrestlers from actual wrestling families here in ks. one actually won alot of usa wrestling events.this is at 150 lbs. looking at salinas tourney, there were at least 3 at 135lbs. and i do believe there were more kids than that. these are just a few. wait until everybody uses track wrestling. then we can track the stats down better.

and when i look at the state series from last year at subs, districts, and the state brackets, there was alot of extra room for wrestlers in the 10 and under weights of 150 and 170. so they wouldn,t have had to make any extra brackets. just make a rule for all HWT,S to wrestle up in age. and if you want kids to try and cut weight, put a restriction on it. like if thet start the year at 135, cut to 125. but if kids like patrick lee, taye washington, and robert king start the year at 150, move them up. that makes the older kids earn their way without a walk to state. and this should go for all the ages. not just 8 and under. i went through this for 2 years. so it won,t surprise me next year when robert gets older in the different age brackets. what,s gonna happen in two years when he exceeds the weight limit again?

If the state by-laws say that a kid must wrestle his own age and weight, why do they let the six and under kids qualify in the eight and under for state? when you talk about takeing a money for cards and tournaments, "why charge a six year old everything that you charge an older kid and not recognize them at the state level?" just something else to think about.

USA wrestling does not have a "6 & U" class! So 8U can be a 5 year old!

so kansas uses usa wrestling guidelines when it suits them best. the 6 and under have their own state tourney. and then they get to enter the 8 and under at state. that is fine with me. it just goes to show that kids to heavy for their class should be able to wrestle up in age. i don,t see why usaks has such a problem with this.it will be interesting to see how many more kids have to go through this. we should be promoting all kids to wrestle and not put restrictions on them at such a young age. this kids club wrestling should be an introduction to the sport. for a kid to cut 25 lbs should be later in development. this is just my opinion to a dead horse.

You have a good point about the 6 year olds. But, it seems that the direction of the State body is toward High School aged kids and not the youth. example: High School class at St. tourny this year. I wonder how many kids will compete in that? Most will be from the East 1/2 of State no doubt, like what we have had in the past /w 16 & U. And will not be a "Grand State" that everyone is wanting, as most of the State placers will not be there from all classes. I realy don't like "hard luck" tournaments. If your going to have this type of tournament then have pool wrestling to get to a bracket. But, isen't that what the qualifing tournaments are? Let the KSHSAA deal /w High School kids. Let Kansas USA wrestling deal /w the youth and the other styles of wrestling. There is a place for both.

We are going to wrestle in Oklahoma where the Heavyweights roam free. We will do a couple of Nat tourneys and if we can get the weight down, the state series. This business with the Hwt's here in KS is so out of whack there isn't much of a reason to give anyone our money when we can be doing bigger things at tournaments that have them in mind.
Fortune assists the daring.
