It looks like all of the Kansas jc schools are ranked to start the year. I think the individual rankings will see some radical changes in the next couple months.

Labette #4
Colby #10
Pratt #11

I agree Ike. Something tells me some of our Cards are going to jump up a little. Also, Ryland Geiger of Clakamas ranked #7 at 197 is just dumb. That guy is sick nasty.

It doesn't look like they gave much love to the incoming freshmen. I think I like that approach due to their lack of expierience at the college level, but there has to be some exceptions. Then you have the guys that won't make it to the second semester. I think this is a year where you will see a strong performance out of the freshman class(from many teams) at the national tourney.

I think the Cards will have a few guys moving up a bit in the rankings in the next few months. I see Allen up around 3. I see Walker up at about 3 as well (if he gets his weight down). I see Chase Nelson up a few if he stays healthy. It's hard to picture anyone getting the better of Benson at heavy if he stays healthy and packs on a few more lbs. He's a monster. I can also see Jesseph AA at 141 once he develops a little more throughout the year. 149...Raufeon Stots. If he stays healthy, I predict and OW. I don't really see anyone else moving around all that much through the year. Hopefully they can put on a good show come February. They certainly have the tools to dethrone ICCC this year if they TCOB.

I don't think Colby is going to have much other than 157 and 165.

Meramec looks tough. ICCC looks down, but they seem to always look like less than what they are. National Duals will say a lot.

I wish I could see a few Stots-Nelson practice room goes.

Still way to early to start giving predictions, but that's the way I see it so far. That's my two cents.

The Cards will definitely come up in the rankings. Meramec has lost a lot of that recruiting class already (and probably more). Deron Winn walked off the mat wrestling Wright this weekend. I think they will have a let down as they have for several years. Iowa Central is not returning a lot, but you can bet they will be tough. I think North Idaho and Clackamas will be tough. They are usually tougher than I think once I see them wrestle. Colby has two probable finalists and that equals a lot of team points. I think by Nationals Nelson will be giving Sanja all he wants though. Those two will be coming out of the same region (likely 1 and 2) and will be on the opposite side of the bracket at the dance. Benson seems to be adjusting just fine at HWT. He'll have to get through a tough Northwest College Heavy to win it (and it seems like a couple other tough ones) I think he'll be in the hunt though. Rutherford is the Evander Holyfield of wrestling...grind, pound, go, go, go...relentless. He'll get his up there. Jesseph will have his hands full keeping his spot when Brady is healthy. Brady will be top 4 (assuming he is the man). Stots is a slick trick and never says die. He's definitely a title contender. Donnie Curtis is always in a match and will be right up there at the top. Thompson doesn't open up enough sometimes, but if it is a high scoring match he dominates. He is as talented as nearly any juco 97 pounder I've ever seen. He waxed #1 and #2 last year (big major decisions). Little Hase has definite AA potential too. I've never seen Weske in top form, but he can stay in a match with anybody. This is a seasoned team with 7-10 All Americans. There are always some suprises, but this team is as talented top to bottom as any I remember at Labette.

They sound really strong - how did the team do this last weekend at the CMU open tournament?

They did well. The results are on the Labette 2009 thread and the round by round is on the CMSU Results? thread. Try to catch them in action if you can, they are strong this year.

The hardest thing to do is bring your best team to the mat at the right time of year. Most teams fight the battle of keeping the guys healthy or eligible to wrestle. They are defiantly a good team; the timing of everything will be a big factor as to how far they go like with all teams. I wish them luck; it would be nice to see a Kansas Colleges get in the hunt for the Championship.

Yeah, it's definitely tough to get through the year with everybody healthy. Coach Renfro has his guys in as good of condition as anyone at any level though. I was talking last year with another alum about how few guys have had season ending injuries for him. I couldn't think of one (there have surely been a few though). I have to think conditioning is a huge factor in the lack of injuries. I just knocked on wood!

They have been in the hunt come Nationals time for several years, bringing home team hardware for six straight years(and a title) and producing 32 All-Americans in seven years! I'm obviously biased, but you can't say those aren't outstanding results at Nationals time. I'd like to think this is the year again!
