I was reading a news article in a local paper about some boys that wrestled at the Cliff Keen Kick off tournament. Both of the boys placed and it said in the article that they were now considered All-American Wrestlers because they placed at a national tournament. We are several years into wrestling and while I have heard of being an All-American wrestler I never knew how you attained that title. Anyone care to explain?

I believe the requirements are comparable with those you need to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize...

I am thinking that you might want to reserve the All-American status for the collegiate level. A lot of our young wrestlers won't make it that far. Just hope that they can do well at the High School level and that they are still having fun when they do.

Some youth tournaments call themselves "Nationals"! If tou win at "Nationals" at the H.S. or collegiate level you are considered "All American"! If you want to hold a tournament and claim that the winners are "All Universe", and that makes some kids happy and makes them love this great sport even more, then what's the big deal really? You know if 3 or 4 or more of the KS tournaments wanted to call themselves a series and award pts for a final event and wanted to call that person a special title then what's the big deal? At the end of the match your either the winner or the loser. That's the only title that "TITLE" that matters!!!

Nothing wrong with it as long as they pay for any awards out of their own pockets and it's not recognized by our state organization. In other words the same as all of the "National" tournaments do with their awarding of the "All American" titles.

In my opinion The Cliff Keen "Roller" Tournaments: Kickoff, Tulsa, Eastern Worlds, Reno and Ammerillo. If your wrestler places at these is a incredible acheivment and something to really be Proud of. And honorably of the title All American title. The Brackets are such that Many "STATE CHAMPS" go two and BAR-B-QUE in the first day of compition. Many don't recognize Brute, Liberty and such as much more competetive than any given saturday in the midwest. Myself included. At the end of the day my son continues to chase the Cliff Keen ALL AMERICAN status with no luck yet. Where as victorys at Brute and Liberty Have come somewhat easy at least placing 3 times and winning once. But for all the experience in itself the atmosphere is electric and accually drives your wrestler to really push themselves to compete at that level is the major benefit !!! You must go at least once its incredible! We'll see you there! We have a Closet full of what I like to call $500.00 Sweatshirts which is usually all we have to show for at the end of those weekends. ITS THE CHASE AFTER ALL RIGHT
Jon Trowbridge Ive never had the fear of getting beat thats how most people lose.

I even narrow it down to Placing at Kickoff, Tulsa, or Reno Worlds. I know there were several RR's at Amarillo and Eastern worlds, so just showing up would give All American status at those two. If I had to pick just one tournament to give a kid All-American status it would be TULSA.

Since we are a USA wrestling state...
FOR USA KIDS:
If you place in the to 8 of the USA Nationals (Folkstyle, Freestyle, or Greco Roman) in one of the USA age groups then you are OFFICIALLY recognized by USA Wrestling as an ALL AMERICAN. Complete with a certificate suitable for framing.
OTHER:
Brute Nationals gives out an All American certificate as well but the competition is cut in half since they award by each grade level instead of every two years.
NHSCA does the same for Fr, So, Jr, and Sr. level high school wrestlers.
AAU has similiar awarding too.
Rocky Mountain Nationals has a series of tournaments which recognize National Placers.
Bill Gossett's American Crown series is another.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Placing in the top 8 at Fargo in Freestyle or Greco Roman (Junior level) is probably the most challenging ALL AMERICAN status achievement and considered by all involved in wrestling as being a really good measure of capability.
