The Greater Wichita Sports Commission and Hartman Arena are proud to announce the 2010 Park City-Wichita Classic.

We have a number of changes in store for the 2010 Edition that we would like to share with all our competitors and parents.

o Hartman Arena: We are moving into the brand new Hartman Arena. The facility is a fantastic facility and we believe the wrestling community will be well pleased when they arrive. You may visit www.hartmanarena.com to get a glimpse of the facility.

o Olympic Gold Medalist Kenny Monday will be hosting a one-hour wrestling clinic for all participants on Friday night.

o Freestyle Clinic: Charlie Knox will be hosting a one-hour freestyle clinic for all participants on Friday night.

o Satellite Weigh-In: We are currently working on locations. We have commitments at the following locations: Winfield, Emporia, McPherson, Independence, Salina and Paola.

o High School Division: We will offer a high school division this year. The weight classes will follow standard high school weights with a +3 pound growth allowance.

o Girls Brackets: We will offer Girls only brackets for those who would like to participate. We will bracket them according to age and weight as the entries come in. (Thanks Jenni and Ed Edison for your help)

o Ranking Wrestlers: We will do our very best job to seed wrestlers based upon the rankings registered in Track Wrestling. We will use the following ranking system…so please take the time to rank your wrestlers accordingly

o AAA - National Placer (Tulsa/USA/USJOC/ High School State Champion)
o AA - State Placer
o A - State Qualifier
o B – Good
o C – Average
o D – Beginner

o Track Wrestling: We will again be utilizing Track Wrestling to manage our tournament. Please register on Track Wrestling. Registration will be open in the next couple of days.

o Admission Fee: Admission to the 2010 tournament is FREE

o Parking Fee: Parking is FREE

The one major change to our tournament this year is the need for us to Split the Tournament into Sessions. Hartman Arena does not afford us the footprint to put down as many mats that we have used in the past. We also want to bring back a TRUE CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS so that we can SHOWCASE those deserving wrestlers. Our plan will be to wrestle each session up to the Championship match. We will award 3/4th place wrestlers, but bring the Championship Match wrestlers back for the finals match.

Here is a schedule of events to assist you with our tournament.

so does this mean if you are a 6U, 8U, or 14U that you are done wrestling by around 1pm and then if you are going for 1st or 2nd place you will come back at (approx) 6pm for the parade of champions? This seems like a long break (approx) 5 hours before your last match for 1st and 2nd.

The younger kids at Tulsa wrestled their semis match Friday before 2:00, then had to wrestle their first place match at 6:00 tonight. Splitting the tourney keeps you from sitting in the arena all day. If you are not one of the kids wrestling for 1st, you will be out by 1:00. And if you are in the 10,12, HS, you get there at noon, and are done by 7 or 8.

Trust me, you will be happy with the way this tourney is ran, and especially with the new venue. There won't be a bad seat in the house, and PLENTY OF BATHROOMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CJWC is excited about the new format and the new venue. We are looking forward to this year's Classic. It should be a great tournament with, as always, great competition. See you in March!

Win,
I do not think we will do challenge for second this year.

We will consider that for the 2011 Classic.

I have always been a fan of the challenge matches.

And I believe that the Classic is giving the option of HS kids that still qualify as 14u, to wrestle the 14u division OR the HS division.

Steven, is this correct?

If you are young enough to wrestle 14U and are in high school, you will have your choice of which division to wrestle.

For our High School Division we are using High School weights with a +3 pound allowance. Of course for the heavy weights we still may have to combine.

The high school weights will be as follows...
103, 112, 119, 125, 130, 135, 140, 145, 152, 160, 171, 189, 215, 245, and 285

So a wrestler who signs up to wrestle 135 can actually weigh in at 138

We want to do this to help those high school kids who intend on wrestling at high school nationals to maintain their weights.

I hope this helps!
Steven

you wont be happy with the way that tourney is ran if you have 6 year old and a 10 year old! One of them will always be bored and into something(usually trouble).
