"Mother of the Year"



Now that we have gotten a few tournaments under our belts, we would like to step it up even further by incorporating a special award honoring our mothers! This award will be given in honor of one very special woman, Donna Woofter. She was not only a devoted wife and mother, but a true hero to the sport of wrestling! The love and enthusiasm that she felt for this great sport was second only to her family.



Here is what we need you to do to honor your special mother. As a club, decide on who you would like to nominate (please only one entry per club). Then, send us your nomination with an explanation as to why your club feels she should be "Mother of the Year." We will determine who will get the award by the most compelling explanation sent to us. Although only one will be chosen for this special award, we want all to understand that we are honoring all mothers who love this sport as Donna did. The award will be given at the beginning of the Donna Woofter Memorial Novice Tournament held on February 14th, 2010. Nominees do not have to be from only the "novice" wrestling families, the nominees can be from "open" wrestling families as well.

Wrestling moms are important!!

Who was last year's honoree?

But what if shes on the list of ejections?

Last year's winner was Paula Broadbent, wife of Jeff Broadbent, mother of many including Justin Broadbent a multi time state placer.

If you're a mom that is on the ejection list that will earn you bonus points for wrestling mom of the year!

I'm on the KWCA Board and I did not even know there is a "Wrestling Mom" of the year award.

Nomination for grandmother of the year:

Grandma 77 yeas old, drove with Grandpa 500 miles to watch grandson wrestle. She has been a wrestling fan since the sport began! She would take a bunch of junior high boys to watch the state meet in Denver. Crazy mom! Now she has the team poster hanging in her living room and knows them all by name.

At Blue Valley NorthWest tournament Grandma moved to another "fan" seating area to better watch her grandson. He was wrestling a boy from that fan section. It was intense and the grandson won a close match. Another boy from our team was wrestling on the same mat so Grandma said she wanted to stay and watch. "They are all my boys." After that match an altercation occured between some of our fans and the other fans. Grandma doesnt walk well and has heart problems so we just sat there while the event was happening. In the midst of this a man asked that we move back to our fan location. Grandma doubled up her fists and said "You want to fight?"

Luckily no one was injured. LOL

Everything was worked out between the fans and all is good. But Police have been notified to watch out for the old woman the Zebra purse.

She is the hero to the wrestling team and is coming again to watch regionals and state.

Will, I know hot wrestling moms are important!

I second the vote for the crazy granny with the Zebra purse. If she is anything like her grandson I would watch out for her crossface.
Patton brought up a great point that should be considered in seeding criteria if it goes to a bracketed format to decide the winner.

I think we may hold wrestle offs for our club nomination!

I don't think any of our coaches want to wrestle my wife. Lord knows it has never worked out for me at home. You talk about wiry with the demeanor of a pit bull! I'll take may chances walking downtown Mass street after midnight.

Lee, I ve seen you out on the mat so that's pretty impressive. I think she has a good shot at a number 1 seed!

If she wins, does she get to tour the US for a year like Miss America? If so, throw her in the bracket. Me, at home with four boys by myself, uh ................ on second thought, scratch her from the tournament.
