I dont think kansas will run away with it, Missouri will bring some talented kids to the dual as well. That being said i believe kansas will win it but in a closer dual then many think. I think next year it will be Missouri's year as they are loaded with talented juniors. Just my two cents.

Within that geographic area of Missouri though? I just don't think of SW MO being that strong other than a few schools.

Yes i believe so. I dont think its a fair assumption to to say SW MO not being very strong, Monett won it all two years ago, Seneca and Neosho won it this year and Carl Junction was in the top 7. They are all in the Joplin area, if you add in the springlfield schools then it gets very interesting.

I didn't know that Andale was considered to be in southeast Kansas. I guess they should have been at the Chanute regional instead of the Pratt regional. smile

Yes but we're not talking about team strength here, we are talking about a broad base of talent from a wide range of schools. Because there are so few schools with wrestling programs in southern Missouri I just don't think of it as having the strength that the Kansas area has.

That is another thing, when this was presented on here, it was east of Wichita or from Wichita east. If we make this thing too lopsided they will take their boys and go home.

Those SW MO boys will be no pushovers. I agree with Sportsfan we need some reasonable boundaries however.

It is true SW MO doesn't have a lot of depth in wrestling, but the combination of Joplin, Neosho, and Seneca would be very competitive against any team that is put together. SW MO wrestling is growing and getting better every year.

I attended the MO state finals this past weekend and believe me Neosho's team alone can give any team all they want.

Neosho, Carthage, and Seneca are always tough and tend to have some high calibur wrestlers. Don't forget about Monnet, they have also put out a couple of D1 wrestlers lately. I can't remember Joplin ever being very good, but things change.

It looks like the boundaries allow us to draw some kids from the south eastern part of Wichita and missouri to draw from the Springfield area. There should be some great matches.

WOW! You are right about Neosho. They placed nine wrestlers at state. Seven of the nine were in the top three, and four of them were in the finals. Three State Champions.

That's STRONG!!!!!!!

As far as boundries....When we met in August to hash this thing out, there were no real steadfast boundries set. Mo. line to Wichita area and Ok line to Burlington. Ark line to Carthage and Ks. line to Branson area. The name of the game was to create the best matchups possible. It was set up for a exciting night of wrestling at Labette Community College by a bunch of "old birds". The idea originated on the way back from the metro classic last year. "How cool would it be to have something like that is SEK in 10 years?" The plan was then set in motion and the smack talking was underway. It is meant to be an opportunity for kids to show case their talents, expose SEK to some fantastic wrestling, and possibly give a kid a chance to get noticed by someone at the next level. In the future, there may be more of an outlined boundry, but for now the lines are not real steadfast for the simple reason that the original founders wanted the best match ups available. I hope this answered any questions. I hope that a bunch of fans will attend and most of all the participants have a great experience. If you are interested in helping, sponsoring, competing, etc- please contact Andy, Daryl or myself and we can point you in the right direction. Thanks.

Joplin isn't a powerhouse but does have a couple kids that could contribute to an all star team.

If SPFLD is involved, there isn't much to worry about since the Springfiled schools did not have one kid qualify for state. If the boundary for this thing stretches 10 miles south of SPFLD to Ozark SW MO could put together a very competitive team.

I know I could put together a team of hammers with Monette, Seneca, Ozark, Neosho, and a few from Joplin.

if someone knows the boundaries of who is eligible for this please post.

I dont know how much better I can explain this. Its a rectangle. The top side is Carthage straight east to where it would intersect with the east boundry of Branson. The east boundry would be where Branson and Carthage intersect to the Arkansas Line. The Arkansas line is the south boundry and the west boundry would be the Kansas line. Ozard would be in that geographic area in my humble opinion. If its not, then that is why there are no steadfast boundries. If you have a kid that you feel should be in this contest, then contact Daryl Bradley @ Monett and get him hooked up. If you have input on the "team of hammers" get that to Daryl as well.

i think mr. renfro has put it as plain as it gets. the ks boundaries look to be bigger mileage wise, but population could be very different. who cares, this will be great.

we have gone into sw mo for years, i think each side will be impressed with the other. it's great in two areas where media coverage isn't as prominent as it is at the ks metro. can't wait to see where this goes over the next few years. great idea guys.
