This is a copy of the email that our Junior Dual Coaching Staff put together after assessing our performance of wrestling at the Junior Dual Competition. Even if you were unable to participate at either of the duals, this is still a list of key "must win" techniques that ALL of our wrestlers musch improve on.
Coaches:
Here are some items that we as coaches discussed during the Junior Duals in OKC that we need to develop and tighten the screws on a little bit prior to Fargo. I thought we could hit some of these items this Sunday at the final training center and possibly carry them over into camp. The final training camp will again have a more Greco focus, but we will have some freestyle integrated into the workout.
Once I have a practice schedule developed, I will e-mail it out. Here are the areas Coach Reick, Coach Slyter and myself discussed during Junior Duals:
1. Underhook snapdown situations (we are not utilizing this position to our advantage, especially in Greco)
2. Peeling the top hand as defense to the 2 on 1
3. Securing the elbow as defense to the gut
4. GUT DEFENSE, GUT DEFENSE, GUT DEFENSE!
5. Waist wraps off the 2 on 1 (predominantly in Greco)
6. Stepping in front in body lock situations and head locks. Keeping our hips in front of opponents.
7. Short arms in neutral position
8. Winning the hand fight! (most notably in Greco. We need to stress Lead Management and understand to win the hand fight! Controlling the wrist and elbow)
9. Proper head pinch execution
Please feel free to add anything else you guys feel is important for us to touch base on this Sunday and as we head into training camp! Thanks!
