Since there is an obvious "lull" in the high school wrestling world, I got to wondering about some of the most impressive, intimidating physical specimens to step on the mats. I'm referring to that wrestler who impressed and/or intimidated by his mere physical presence. That wrestler, who stood as an "inverted pyramid" or who had some other physically intimidating feature, who evoked a sense of awe (or concern and/or fear) in his opponents. In the current mix of Kansas wrestlers, Daniel DeShazer (Wichita Heights) comes to mind.

Conversely, how about those wrestlers who lacked any semblance of of a physical presence and/or physical power or any other physical attribute calling attention to their self as an accomplished, elite wrestler, but who, nonetheless, dispatched virtually all of his opponents with relative ease, leaving his opponents to wonder just how he pulled that off. Sorry, but no one comes to mind in this category.

1st part: Boyle and Madl.
2nd part: Taylor Moeder and Colten Eck. - both are skinny and show no muscular definition, not to mention a little funny looking.

2006 135 champ Brad Traina was a freak show .. the picture the paper had of him you could see every vein and muscle in his arm

and a little earlier then that the Heincker twins had the opposite effect, but still wiped the mat with almost everyone ha

Boyle was spooky and Ross Taplin. The Bakers from Hoxie weren't really physically imposing, but they were pretty solid.

Ethan Mumaw's picture in the newspaper after he won state last year looked pretty intimidating.

Least Imposing: Guy Tilton, Effingham High School back in '83. Not real sure, but at 138lbs, he seemed like he stood about 6'2". I wrestled him at State that year and figured I could take the tall lanky kid out. Wrong answer. Multiple chicken wings and barred arms later, I came out about nine points shy of the tie. I believe he finished 2nd in State that year as a Senior, and finished 2nd in State the year before. Solid, although slight, wrestler.

How about Aldon Isenberg. The coach at Newberry said he looked like a kid who sat around eating Cheetos all day but would take your head off!
