BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker wrestling team does not have a regular-season home match until Nov. 6, but the Wildcats‘ season commences at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27, when Baker holds its annual intrasquad wrestle-offs in the Collins Center. The event is open to the public.

The Black and Orange Classic opens the 2010-11 season for the team as well as solidifies the starting roster for the upcoming campaign.

“We’ll have two mats going and we’re going to showcase most of our team,” said head coach Jimmy May. “I want to give the kids an opportunity to wrestle in front of a crowd. We’ll have about 15 matches on each mat, each match will be one period of five minutes."

A live video of the broadcast will be available at 6:50 p.m

Thanks for the information. It is nice to have a college near Kansas City with wrestling.

There should be some amazing matchups at 125, 157, and 285. Not taking away from any other weight.

Just returned home from the Black and Orange matches! The young men showed themselves well and Coach May should be pleased.

Of the 24 matches wrestled, there was only one fall that I saw and all other matches were very close. Most were won by 1-point!! Baker has around 45 wrestlers in their room ... and their room must be very competitive!

There was a good mix of the best of Kansas high schools, a bunch of Nevada talent; and the balance from Idaho, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, California, Georgia, and Louisiana!! A great mix of young men.

The crowd was a bit light, maybe 200 ... but it was a school night! Kit Harris and Gary Mayaab were the officials. The contest consisted of 1, 5-minute period.

It was also great to see many "old" friends!

Are you making a POSITIVE difference in the life of kids?

Any results from the dual? I know the 1 five minute period rule kinda messes it up but do we know who wrestled?
