I would almost have to say it depends on whether they are bottom of age or top of age...bottom of age State Placer is impressive to me as opposed to top of age State Qualifier. Also depends on the age/weight Top of age 12U 60 SP as opposed to bottom of age 12U 96 SP...
Just my thoughts
Bottom of the age, top of the age, sometimes that does not tell the whole story. The only two years my son made Kids' State were when he was 11 and 13 (bottom of the age). His record in those two State Tournaments was 3-4. He did not qualify at the age of 12 or last year at 14.
When he was 12, I was deployed and my wife did a tremendous job getting him to practice and to tournaments even though our club was more than a half hour away. It was a tough year for all of us, and he didn't qualify for Districts for the first time since he was 9. Last year was the best year he has ever had. Between Junior High and Kids, he went 60-18, but couldn't get through a District bracket that was stacked to the ceiling with the four qualifiers all placing in the top five at State. As a freshman this year he is currently 9-2 with five pins. Against ranked opponents he is 1-2.
I guess what I am saying is that there is always more to the story than what a kid has or hasn't done. Garrett has been wrestling under the radar his entire career, but he is going to have a very good high school career.
