I was just wondering why they held weigh-ins at the Ellsworth Tourney. When we weighed in there was a little boy a few people in front of us and I heard him give his name, which I recognized from seeing in my son's bracket. I looked at the scale and it read 69.4. This little boy was in the 67 pound bracket. The guy running the scale told the little boy that he was good to go. My son didn't end up wrestling this little boy, due to the way the bracket worked out, but if he had he would have been giving him 3.5 pounds as my son only weighed 66#.
I don't have a problem with giving a few tenths to the wrestlers on these weekends, but 2.5 pounds is almost an entire weight class. Even if the scale had been off and they were accounting for this if the scale is that much off they shouldn't be using it. I don't know how many other wrestlers were heavy at Ellsworth, but is it helping our kids to let this go, especially this close to Sub-District, when most wrestlers are trying to make final decisions as to what weight class to wrestle at State.
Otherwise I felt the Ellsworth Tourney was ran very well.
