Any thoughts on weight class changes this year? Is
It is kind of early only after a portion of the 1st year. My thought was cutting out a weight in the middle of the bell curve was not a good decision and adding it to the upper weights. The weight change is making it harder to fill the 3 upper weights with an experienced wrestler. I know some states have actually have been discussing reducing the number of weight classes back to about 12.

Sean,
One thing I know, we haven't had a 195 pounder all year and have been a little heavy in the middle weights. I guess the other thing that I would say is that I hate seeing a high school wrestling program with open weights regardless of the weight class. In a perfect world, every team would be filled and we would have less of the WBFFs.

Going to 106 was a good decision, a lot less opens and a lot better competition depth.

I have no problem with the 106 weight class. There will be, unfortunately, some wrestlers that are very talented that are too small to even make varsity at that weight. If all the weight classes were filled for every team, from 321a to 6a, I really wouldn't care.

The problem I see is 235 lb'ers up against guys pushing 285lbs! There is too much of a span between 220 and 285

I would cast a vote to put back a weight under 106. I realize there are probably less than 16 kids in the entire state at that weight, but giving up 10-15 pounds to the six pounders is not a competitive answer either. JMO

You can't add a weight below 106 due to the lack of wrestlers that would be in it. And you cant use the giving up weight as a reason for adding another class because some heavyweights are giving up 60 or more pounds.

No other varsity sport offers such an attractive option to make varsity as a freshman. One class, 106, is plenty and it is low enough. We need the class put back in the middle.

I would like to raise 106 to 108 or 109, that way you would be more likely to fill a bracket because many teams don't have anyone that small. And if there arn't many people at that weight at regionals then you end up with several kids that go to state and go 2 and out. Which is very demoralizing.

The same amount of kids will go 2 and out no matter what. The same amount of demoralizing will happen also.
